An old drabble from the Mini-fic Mondays I used to hold over on Tumblr (link in my profile).
It had been on his mind for a while. On several occasions, he had thought that it was a good time to do it, but never ended up going through with it.
He knew why he didn't, and even thought he wanted to, he didn't know where it would lead.
He'd never admit it, but it scared the shit out of him.
Tonight again, Zoro was in his kitchen, helping with dishes and sharing companionable quietness as the others were already asleep. And again, he wanted to do it.
It should be easy. He'd call out to Zoro, maybe put a hand on his arm to get his attention. Zoro would turn towards him, expecting him to talk, surprised, maybe, when he wouldn't. They'd look at each other, both silent, and maybe, then, Zoro would get the hint. Maybe Zoro wanted this too, and maybe he'd be the one initiating the kiss.
But Sanji knew better. Zoro was utterly clueless. Not so much when it came to sex. The recent events were proof enough of that. But feelings? For all the big words and matching maturity Zoro could show, he was shit at figuring out what he felt.
Sanji didn't want to be the one to initiate anything if Zoro was going to be that clueless.
He sighed. He didn't want to wait either. Who knew how long it'd take the marimo to bloom. Did moss even sprout flowers? It probably didn't.
"Oi."
And there was the moss-man, finally waking up from his dish-washing daze.
"Hmm?"
"Do we have any booze left?"
Sanji paused. Of course, of all things, Zoro would be thinking about drinking while doing the dishes.
Sometimes, he wished his mind worked that way too. Thinking simple things. Living a simple life. Not bothering with stupid feelings.
"We do."
He wasn't looking, focusing instead on the pan he was scrubbing, but he almost could feel the grin on Zoro's face.
A grin he wanted to kiss badly right now.
"I'm taking some with me when we're done."
Sanji didn't reply. Booze, huh…

(It might not be obvious at first, but this is a scene from the Unripe universe. I've been wanting to write something in Sanji's PoV for a while in that context, and this was the perfect occasion. You can find the actual kiss scene in the actual fic.)
