"MIAKKKKAAAA! How did this happen!" Yui's normally calm composure changed as her voice turned shrill.
"Well..." Miaka stammered, running her hand over her baby bump that had barely been showing for a week or so now. "You were drunk."
"That was TWO DAYS ago!" Yui screamed. "What kind of maid of honour forgets to remind the bride to buy her own WEDDING DRESS?" She paced across the room, chewing on her manicured nails. How was she supposed to tell Glen that she didn't have a dress? "We will have to call off the ceremony." She said with finality.
"Steph?" Miaka looked over hopefully to her sister – in – law, who was muttering pick up, pick up... in quick succession followed by a darn it! as she dialled the number again.
"Sorry Miaka. Kind of busy.." Steph spoke through her teeth as she pointed to her cell phone. Within seconds her facial expressions changed as she spoke in hushed whispers.
"Where the hell are you? Weren't you supposed to be here like an hour ago?"
"Sorry Steph. Traffic. I am close. Say five minutes?" the heavy American accented man replied.
"What am I to do till then?" a hint of annoyance in her voice.
"Stall." With that he disconnected the phone and Steph turned to face the frantic bride to be. "Well it's not the end of the world. Yui ... Dearest... calm down... it will be ok." Steph said calmly which ended up with her getting a glare that was hot enough to vaporize the arctic.
A few moments later, there was a strong knock on the door. "GET. OUT!" came the response from Yui as Miaka unlocked the door admitting a slightly panting Kurt.
"Miaka. Stephanie. Yui." He said as he acknowledged everyone in the room.
"What do you want." Yui said in a tone that made Kurt flinch. He wasn't the type to get intimidated by anyone but past experience had proved that when Yui was in that mood it was better to leave her alone.
"Well.." he said bashfully, twisting the hem of his shirt. "Thought that you might need a dress." He gestured to one of the younger boys to bring in the dress bag. "Glen thought it would look perfect on you." He said as he handed her the dress.
"Well you are an hour late." Miaka stated the obvious.
"It's just that he upholds the values of tardiness." Steph muttered, rolling her eyes, not realizing that all the occupants in the room were staring at her like she grew another head. "What?"
"Tardiness?" Kurt asked confused. "Miaka, does she always talk like this?"
Miaka shook her head in denial. Their discussion was short-lived as Yui sent a piercing scream across the room. "Kurt this is beautiful!"
"Glad you liked it." He said handing her a shoe box. "You better get ready. The ceremony starts in forty five minutes." He turned to exit the room.
"Hey Kurt" Yui said emptying the contents of the shoe box to reveal a beautiful pair of silver stilettos. "This is for being late." She proceeded to fling the empty cardboard box at him which he dodged at the last moment and closed the door to the room.
"Where the hell is my best man." Glen asked as he glanced at his watch.
"Calm down mate, he should be here any minute now." Ryan tried to calm his worried friend as he paced the room. There was a soft knock on the door as Kurt entered with a big grin on his face.
"Well..?" Glen asked pasting a stare at his best friend.
"She loved it!" he stated as he walked over to his suit that was spread out on the chair.
"See, it was nothing to be worried about." Ryan stated blankly. "Any way... Where's Andy?"
"He said he was a little busy. He will be there for the reception later." Glen stated matter – of – factly.
"Oh." Ryan muttered.
"Uncle Glen... Uncle Glen" a little blond haired girl ran in, a little boy in a suit followed her. "Mommy told me to check on you." The little girl continued. She was not more than three years old and had golden ringlets. From the looks of it she was the flower girl with that frilly purple dress and headgear.
"Christi, tell your mother I am ready."
"Ok. Bye Uncle Glen."
"Bye kids" Glen said as the children left the room.
At the reception, she sat at the table, bored as hell. How she wished someone would dance with her, or at least talk to her. As she sat there, the events of a few hours ago started playing in her head.
The little girl with golden ringlets, walked hand in hand with a little boy as they dropped petals on the carpet. She looked adorable with the purple strappy and frilly dress, the boy beside her matched by his same shade tie. By the looks of it, they looked like siblings. Not long after they passed by, Miaka walked in with Kurt on her arm. Her thin strap short purple dress looked elegant as she walked up to the altar and took her place. Hayden did notice the expressionless face of Nicholas change to that of a grumpy bull dog the moment Stephanie and Ryan walked in, hand in hand. Stephanie wore a straight, A line short gown that made her long legs look even longer.
Not long after, the music changed as Yui walked in. She entered, hand in hand with Keisuke wearing an elegant A line, figure hugging, tube dress that made her body look more pronounced. The gown tapered outwards leaving a soft fall as the train. The satin pleats were gathered lightly on the sides as the string of diamonds under the bust line gleamed in the evening light. As she passed, Hayden noticed the ribbon riding low on her back as the dress floated behind her.
She was brought back to the present by the familiar voice of Andy Wong seductively addressing the audience. "... is dedicated to a beautiful young lady by the name of Hayden Cameron."
She felt the heat rising to her face as Andy sang her favourite song. How on earth had he known that she loved Beautiful in my eyes by Jericho Rosales. She watched as her brother stared at her at the blatant flirtatious intent of the rock star towards his sister. Steph apparently noticed as she proceeded to distract the irate man. The moment the song was over, Andy somehow managed to slip beside the unsuspecting Hayden as he pulled her into an embrace.
"Care to dance with me, malady?"
"S..Sure. Do you have to call me that?" She stammered.
"I would prefer to. Shall we?" that was all the warning she got because Andy managed to guide her to the middle of the dance floor.
'Well here goes nothing.' Taka thought as he got out of the cab as his red haired beauty locked arms with him. He hadn't told anyone he was bringing a plus one, well except Stephanie. He didn't know what possessed him to bring her along but he did. Now it was time to face his friends. As he walked into the door, he noticed Miaka's eyes widen as she recognized the woman that entered with her former flame.
"Miaka" Taka greeted trying not to show his nervousness, "This is..."
"Soi" Miaka finished glumly.
"I was going to say Kate, my girlfriend." Taka finished.
"Kate!" Glen found his way to his designer's side. "Thank you so much for the dress. It is perfect." He said as he introduced Kate to his wife. "Yui, Kate. She is the designer I came to Tokyo to model for."
"Hey Kate." Yui tried to hide a grimace as Kate started to examine her work. "Thank you so much for the dress."
"My pleasure." Kate finished as her eyes caught on to Nicholas Raine. "Have we met before?" She asked.
"I don't believe so." Nick stiffened. His voice was deep against her ears.
"Kate, hi I'm Stephanie let me show you around, em... what is your opinion of..." Steph's voice trailed off as she dragged Kate further away from the group. When Kate was out of earshot, the group cornered Taka, who was trying his best not to be intimidated.
