Hey there! Hope you're all having an amazing summer! Sorry it's been like a month. Shame on Annie! You should have posted this as soon as the new book came out! Yeah yeah yeah. XP Anyways! This story isn't really inspired by the new book, but by Moon Rising(is that cheating? I don't think it's cheating. Let's hope it's not). Back in like, March or something, I got really bored in study hall and wrote this little WinterXMoon drabble in the notes option on my phone. So, Winter has not seen Scarlet yet as far as this little piece is concerned! it's cute to me, but maybe you'll all have different takes on it? Idk. Also! While re-reading this(because I'm trying to get into the habit-I make too many mistakes), the idea popped into my head to have another version of this for the next chapter? Only Moon saves Winter from a dream about turning into the little fake Skywing that Hailstorm was stuck as. Let me know whatcha think! I hope you enjoy, and remember, REVIEW! XD

Winter was twitching again. He kept lashing his barbed tail against the ground, ripping up grass stalks. His claws were closing and opening, his mouth just barely wide enough for him to release a small whimper.

Moon watched him for a bit, feeling her pity well up for the Icewing. This wasn't the first night he'd had these dreams. But Moon was afraid to touch him. His nightmares flowed into her at the contact, even with his Skyfire, so she understood why they made him thrash so much. Each was slightly different each night, but the premise was the same. Halistorm dying-only Icicle was the one to slit his throat. All the while the massive, overlooking presence of Scarlet. Or, at least, Winter's version of Scarlet. Being how he'd never actually seen her, he'd vaguely put together a picture based off the Skywings he had seen back in Jade Mountain Academy.

Moon sighed out her nose, two tendrils of smoke escaping as she did so. She watched them curl up towards the starry night sky, blinking sleepily. Qibil was on the first watch, sitting up on a overhanging cliff with his tail curled tightly. The two moons in sight caught his pale yellow scales and turned them to a faint white. The third moon was nowhere to be seen. She looked back down at Winter, who let out a low guttural moan. Moon's heart clenched in sympathy. She wished she was still in range of Darkstalker. She wanted him to teach her one more trick-how to pull someone free of their nightmare.

He'd done it to her-although that might have counted as a vision. She was still trying to convince herself it wasn't. But the premise was the same, wasn't it? Something scary was happening in the mind of a dragon.

The silver touch of the moons seemed to sink through her scales. She took a deep breath, looking at her friends. Turtle and Kinkajou were snoring peacefully, Kinkajou's scales the color of the ground below them. Moon looked back to Winter as he whimpered again. Steeling herself, she reached forward and clasped her talons around Winter's. His nightmare immediately swamped around her mind. Don't let it take you over. She thought to herself desperately. She clenched her eyes shut and thought of the silence Darkstalker had brought her. She thought of the peace and the silence over the sound of Winter screaming in his nightmare. Their minds were melding together, it felt like. Moon clenched her teeth. Come on! She tried to force the picture of the silence she had in her mind into Winter's, although it felt like she was trying to shove a massive boulder into a small hole.

No no no no no no no no no! Winter's normally haughty voice full of panic made her open her eyes and back out for a moment. Her grip on his talons lessened. Then she adjusted her talons around his more tightly and plunged back into Winter's mind determinedly. In her mind, she grasped Winter by the forearms, feeling like she was made of pure light, and dragged him away from the horrifying scene of Icicle slowly dragging her sharp talon down Hailstorm's shiny throat, leaving a trial of blue blood.

And the Hailstorm's screams stopped. Moon opened her eyes, looking around. She was sitting on a smooth, warm floor. She was surrounded by a white space, but the white was a little bit tinted with pink around the horizon in all directions. A flush of pride rushed through her and made her lift her tail tip. Darkstalker would have been proud. She had successfully stopped the nightmare. Winter groaned, and it was then that Moon saw the Icewing lying in a heap only a few tail lengths away from her.

"Winter?" Moon asked, worried. What if she had damaged his mind?

But the Icewing sat up. He took a deep breath, then quickly lifted his head his blue eyes wild. He looked around until he saw Moon, meeting her eyes. "Moon." He said softly, a hint of confusion in his voice.

A shiver went through Moon. His voice sounded hoarse, tired, but still proud. "Are you alright?" She blurted.

Winter looked down at his talons. In the dream they'd been covered in blue blood, but here, in this pinkish/white world, they were shimmering with the multiple blue and white layers of Winter's scales. As if realizing they were clean, he nodded slowly. "Where...are we?"

Moon raised her wings in a shrug. "Just a place, I guess. It's better than your nightmare."

Winter nodded in mute agreement. His wings were still trembling, Moon noticed. Then he looked at her sharply. "Wait. So you can...pull dragons out of their dreams? I thought that the Skyfire-"

Moon shifted. "I-I'm not sure. It's the first time I've tried. You looked to be in so much pain, I couldn't just leave you like that."

Winter cocked his head, something like a smile starting to appear on his face. "And just waking me up wouldn't have been enough?"

Moon shook her head, even though she knew he was teasing. "You need to rest."

Winter was silent. He spun, observing the area. "It's...quiet here."

Moon nodded, revealing in the sounds of absolutely nothing but her and Winter's breathing, but even that seemed muffled. "I like it."

Winter looked at her, waiting for her to explain.

Moon wasn't sure she should or could, but she tried to explain her feelings anyways. "I can't hear any voices in my head that aren't my own here." She admitted. "It's...peaceful. But I'd go crazy if I stayed here for too long. It's an awful, lonely feeling after a while."

Winter took a deep breath. "Is it bad? Being in the Academy? I mean, it was full of dragons."

"There's a trick." Moon confessed. She spread her wings and stared at the silver sparkles at the underside of her wings, thinking about how they looked even more magical in this place. "Raindrops. I imagine all the minds are just like little raindrops. I can't here them in the swell of the storm."

"Oh." Winter shivered and clutched his talons tighter tightly. "So...You saw my dream? All of it?"

Moon sighed. "It was powerful. I guess the Skyfire couldn't keep it from me when I touched you."

The Icewing shuddered again. He lied down gently and covered his head with his wings. Sympathy stabbed through Moon again. She stood and walked over to the Icewing. She sat down next to him, staring out over the little white space she had created. "I'm sorry I saw it." She apologized. Winter made a little grunt in response, but flicked his tail as if it wasn't a big deal. Moon narrowed her eyes around her. Darkstalker had pulled her into dark, but Moon had pulled Winter into light, apparently. She wondered if that was her own touch to it or if it meant she had done something wrong.

"How long can we stay here?" Winter mumbled suddenly.

"Until we wake up. Or at least, until I do. I think I'll drag you out with me when I wake up." Moon blubbered. She wasn't sure what to say, exactly, but she knew she had fallen asleep sometime during the battle to free Winter from the nightmare. Darkstalker's emotions had probably cut off the connection back then, and that had woken her up. She figured it'd just be a matter of waking up to leave. "Why? Would you like to wake up?"

"No." He answered immediately. "I'm still asleep, and I want to rest." He flung open his wings and practically slapped Moon in the face with one.

"Oof!" Moon cried, losing her balance and falling back onto her shoulders.

"Sorry!" Winter sprung up and backed away from her. He folded his wings back up carefully and walked back to her as she rolled over, lowering his head next to hers. "Are you alright? I'm sorry, I didn't know you were so close."

Moon smothered a giggle-or at least tired too. She couldn't help but smile, however. When she saw Winter fighting the same smile, she broke. She burst out into laughter and soon Winter was laughing as well. Moon let her wings lie out on each side of her. Winter shifted so his face was over her. "Thank you, by the way." He said once they could contain their laughter.

"For what?" Moon asked, her smile still on her face.

"Freeing me from...you know." Winter shuffled his wings and walked a few steps back.

Moon stood. "Don't thank me. I felt bad." She refolded her wings.

Winter sat down and looked around. "I did, too." He said quietly.

Moon sat down next to the Icewing. She looked around. Maybe the space was affecting her somehow-she didn't feel any anxiety or worries. Nothing could touch the two dragons here. Nothing. And suddenly small bubble shapes were floating up and up and up until they were out of sight. The bubbles were light blue and perfectly shaped, all around them, but far off into the distance. Moon's jaw dropped. They glowed with a sort of ethereal light, making her feel transfixed and relaxed. Then, all at once, exhausted swept over Moon.

"What are they?" Asked Winter, his voice sounding far away.

"Hmm." Moon answered, blinking slowly. "I have no idea. They're pretty though, right?"

"Yeah, I guess." If he said anything else, Moon didn't hear it. She leaned against Winter, his scales warm for once. Winter gave a little start but didn't move. She felt his wing slip around her, and that's when her eyes shut.

"UP! UP! UP! UP!"

Moon groaned and opened her eyes reluctantly. Kinkajou was staring down at her, her scales purple with streaks of pink and yellow darting through them. "Come ON! We've gotta keep moving!" Her tail thumped the ground near Moon's head and when she didn't feel the vibration Moon realized her head wasn't resting on the ground.

Right next to her, Winter groaned. "Ugh." He was practically breathing in her ear, and she could feel his cool breath sweep over her head.

The cold must have jump-started her brain and she became aware of what position she was in. Winter's wing was covering most of her bod. Her tail was on top of his, her back was pressed to his stomach. She could feel his talon against her shoulder. And as for the other-she was using it as a pillow. Winter's head was curled in towards her.

Frantically, she practically flung herself off of the Icewing. She stretched, walking towards an amused looking Qibil and Turtle, pretending to stretch out each individual leg and fight the embarrassment thrumming through her scales. Meanwhile, Winter blinked, then seemed to realize how he'd been sleeping as well. He stood, shaking himself and gaining his regular posture back. Kinkajou giggled.

"Right then, we should go." Winter said gruffly.

"Uh, yeah. Let's keep going." Moon agreed. She spread her wings and vaulted into the air, hearing her friends do the same. As the dragonets flew off, Moon thought about last night. She fell asleep on top of him in her dream land, it made sense she'd done the same in reality. As she pumped her wings, she also noticed how well rested she felt. She took a deep breath and thanked the moons dragons couldn't blush.
