"Care to tell me what's on your mind?" Ashcloud chuckled, flicking his gray tail in a bit of annoyance.
The small, scrawny golden furred tom switched his icy blue eyes up to gaze at his mentor, who had been trying to get his attention for the past couple of minutes.
"Sorry…" Flickerpaw meowed, flattening his small ears out in embarrassment.
Ashcloud looked over at the pretty silver she cat Flickerpaw had been staring at.
"You're going to have to tell her one day about your feelings for her." Ashcloud sighed, his whiskers twitching slightly as he gazed at the lovestruck tom in sympathy.
"I can't." Flickerpaw muttered, looking down at his paws.
"Everything will work itself out." Ashcloud promised, touching his nose to his apprentices ear reassuringly before changing the subject. "Now that I have your attention, I was trying to tell you that the calling is tomorrow."
"I know." Flickerpaw said nervously.
"You'll do fine, Flickerpaw. Now iff you excuse me, I do believe your sister is trying to get your attention." Ashcloud purred in amusment as he padded away.
Flickerpaw glanced over and sure enough, Creampaw sat near the freshkill pile, beckoning him with her tail.
"Hey Creampaw." Flickerpaw greeted as he padded over to join his sister, nuzzling her affectionately.
"Should we talk to our siblings about the calling?" Creampaw asked quietly.
"Do you really think it will do any good?" Flickerpaw inquired.
All 6 siblings were very close but with their different personalities, they had drifted into different friend groups although Creampaw and Flickerpaw stuck with the same friend group due to the fact that they had always been closer than most. Creampaw was the one that had always done the talking for Flickerpaw and she was the reason he had any friends. The shy, socially awkward tom struggled to make friends or even speak up at all for that matter.
"I suppose your right. I hope they'll be okay." Creampaw meowed softly.
"They'll be fine." Flickerpaw purred reassuringly.
Just then a thought occurred to Flickerpaw.
"We're probably going to run into our family." Flickerpaw commented.
The two siblings had family in all clans due to their long family history. Some of their family were apprentices and kits like themselves. Flickerpaw couldn't help but think that that would lead to tensions. None of the six siblings were very close or in contact with their family outside of Whisperclan. The only family outside of Whisperclan that Flickerpaw used to be close with was his sister, Fernpaw. Now, she was like someone he used to know. She had changed so much, she seemed happier in her new clan but Flickerpaw couldn't forget the betrayal he felt when she left without saying goodbye.
"You're right. Do you think that'll end badly?" Creampaw asked anxiously.
"We haven't done anything to them, whatever tensions there are happened way before we were born. It's not our fault so they have nothing to be angry at us for." Flickerpaw reassured her, just then he grew quiet as Silverpaw joined them.
"Excited about tomorrow?" Silverpaw meowed eagery.
Flickerpaw just nodded shyly while Creampaw rolled her eyes at him.
"Nervous and excited." Creampaw confessed.
"You'll do fine." Silverpaw reassured her, switching her gaze to Flickerpaw, she looked like she might say something but just then Mistkit bounded up, tackling Flickerpaw
Flickerpaw purred and gently batted the kit away from him. The younger she kit squealed and carefully jumped onto his back, perching there as she looked around the clearing. Flickerpaw and the little she kit were very close. He seemed to get along with kits a lot better than he got along with other apprentices. Stormpaw made his way over to Creampaw, his eyes sparkling slightly at the sight of his bestfriend. Flickerpaw thought that the tom was a bit too fond of his sister who also happened to be training to be a medicine cat but Flickerpaw also knew Stormpaw cared about his sister too much to make her choose between him and her lifestyle.
The small tom stared at his group of friends, desperately hoping that all of them would make it through the calling.
