The rest of the week passed like usual but there had been a growing excitement for the dance Saturday, which was today and the dance was due to start in about an hour. Rose was finishing getting ready to go, checking herself in the full length mirror that was attached to the back of her door.
"Rose? Are you about ready?" Pete called from the bottom of the stairs.
"In minute," Rose called back as she put on her necklace.
There was a knock on the door. "Jacks could you get that?" Pete asked his wife.
"Oh sure just so long as you can get her moving or she'll be late for her first high school dance," Jackie told him as she had to the front door.
Pete went up the stairs to find Rose. Jimmy was at the door when Jackie opened the door. The blonde woman looked him up and down, noticing that he was a decent height for a 10th grader, had shaggy brown hair, and chocolate brown eyes.
Jimmy was wearing a black tux with a pink bow tie. "Good evening Mrs. Tyler."
"Hello you must be Jimmy, come in," Jackie stepped aside to let him in.
Jimmy stepped in and gave her a dazzling smile, wiping his feet on the place mat outside the door first. "You have a lovely home; it reflects your gorgeous face."
Jackie smiled at him, warning bells going off, "Thank you."
Jimmy gave her a dazzling smile before turning his attention to the entrance way where Pete walked through. He shook Pete's hand; Pete didn't smile, just glared at him. Jimmy could tell that Rose's father was one that would be over protective of his little girl and his looks gave him a strong intimidating factor; he was tall, broad shouldered, and bald.
"I want her back by midnight." Jimmy nodded no fear in his eyes. Pete stepped aside as Rose walked in. Jimmy gave her a smile and allowed his eyes to roam her figure. She was wearing a light pink dress that hugged her upper body but flowed around her the rest of the way to her knees, she wore skin colored hose, and black heels. She had done her hair to have some loose curls and had even put on some make up.
Rose smiled back blushing slightly, "'Ello."
Jimmy smiled and said hello back before offering her his arm. The two of them walked out to Jimmy's brown truck. Jimmy opened the door for her and Rose slipped in. Jimmy waved to her parents before heading around to the other side and started up the truck, pulling out of the drive way before heading towards the dance.
As they drove to the dance the two of them made small talk, but Jimmy noticed that the closer they got the faster Rose would talk. Once they arrived Jimmy got out and rushed to her side, opening her door for her. As Jimmy helped Rose out of the truck he asked, "Are you happy?"
"Yeah, of course I am," Rose smiled, "I'm just excited is all."
Jimmy smiled and kissed her. Rose kissed him back and they headed inside. Jimmy led her into the building; they walked in hand and hand. By the time Rose and Jimmy had arrived in the gym David and everyone has already gotten there.
David was talking to Donna, Jack, Chris, Martha, and Mickey; he was too preoccupied to notice when Rose came in. Jack, Chris, and Donna noted this and hoped that he would remain oblivious, but luck never really was the Noble family's strong suit.
Martha had noticed Jimmy and Rose first and waved at them. David looked confused at her before turning around to see what she was looking at. He swallowed hard when he saw Rose in her pink dress; it had a bow in the back and clung to her body perfectly. He felt a pang in his chest when he saw her holding the other guys hand. Chris slowly, as to not draw attention to David, put a hand on his shoulder and stepped in front of his view.
Chris leaned towards his younger brother slightly. "Do you want to leave?" he asked seriously, not wanting him to go into another panic attack.
David bit his lip but shook his head, saying no. He would just live with it for one night because that's all it would be, one night. Chris accepted his response and leaned away from him to join Mickey in a conversation over what he was learning in auto shop; the younger boy was looking at possibly doing the class next year. Why he was looking at classes this early in the semester he didn't know, but Chris also wasn't one that would ask. The rest of the night consisted of Jack swinging Donna around on the dance floor as they moved to their own music as well as Martha and Mickey dancing to the music actually being played. Chris stood next to David most of the night, being as overprotective as he had even been. He wouldn't admit it, but it hurt him to see his little brother pining after Rose and neither of them realizing it.
David felt a sharp pain in his chest every time he caught a glimpse of Rose with Jimmy. It wasn't that he was upset with her going with another guy, but for one odd reason or another he couldn't shake off the painful feeling of his heart shattering. Chris had tried his best to keep his mind off of Rose and her date, but after the fifth failed conversation the black haired man had given up. At some point a blonde with long hair that reminded David of Rose came over and joined them. She had said hi to him at some point, but focused on talking to Chris; it seemed they had auto shop together. The rest of the night after that passed in a blur, not that David complained; the sooner the dance was done the sooner Rose would no longer be around Jimmy.
It didn't take long after the siblings all got back from the late party to crash on their own beds. Chris had made sure each of them were tucked in and halfway asleep before going to his own room to pass out; usually Tom would have done this, but him and Sarah-Jane were already asleep and they didn't need to be woke up for something so small. David fisted the sheets as his eyelids drooped, thinking about the way Rose danced earlier. A small smile appeared on his lips and his eyes closed as he imagined what it would have been like to be her dance partner; the sway of her hips, the smooth skin under his hands, the way she trusted him to dip her carefully. He was too far gone to even questions when his imagination supplied what it would feel like to kiss her after the end of the song.
