Kim's POV

There comes a moment in everyone's life when you realize you will never have normal again. I guess Frank marrying Martha should have been that moment or maybe when I had a hissy fit about a pool.

But the real moment I realized everything had changed was when my own grandfather announced he was sending home. I don't think anything has ever hurt this much.

I never really thought that Frank would blow up like he did. I thought maybe some extra chores a stern look some limitations on my use of the truck and then everything would be fine.

But here I stood in the living room my suitcase on one side of me and Jack on the other.

Frank stood by the door looking everywhere but me and Jack anxiously tapped his foot while he looked at me concern in his eyes.

That was another thing that was weird, somehow along this crazy messed up summer Jack and I had become friends.

I was actually gonna miss that pain in the butt.

Suddenly Martha comes into the room.

I expect her to grab her purse and follow us to the car as per usual. However when Martha entered I noticed an unusual glint in her eyes almost ... determination.

"Frank I think you are being rash and need to stop and think about what you're doing." She declared.

All three of our heads swiveled to her shock on our faces.

Frank quickly composed himself "Why do you say that?"

"All year long you talk about Kim's visits. You yammer on about Kim does this and Kim would do it that way! She is finally here and you're sending her away! Yes I'll admit she has made some unwise decisions but she is 16 were all stupid at that age! Stop being such an old man, let go of your pride and think things through."

Martha then took in a deep breath and straightening her shoulders in determination.

I was so grateful to Martha in that moment I could kiss her! I also tried to ignore the part where she called me dumb.

Frank stared at me for a moment.

"Kim grab your suitcase and return to your room Martha and I need to talk."

I quietly walk back to my room Jack following behind me.

We walk into my room and Jack shuts the door behind him.

We are quiet for a second and then Jack is suddenly thrown into a fit of laughter.

I sit there and look at him like he is crazy and he just laughs harder.

Then he suddenly tackles me in a hug. A bone crushing out of control hug.

"I'm so glad you're staying Kim." he whispers in my ear.

Then he kisses me and the world looks so much brighter.
