Après Moi, Le Deluge

"Their ancestral magic is supporting this city. There's never been one all-powerful witch until Davina."

"Who is now tucked in safe and sound down the hall and under my protection. Your CELESTE was quite beautiful and a portent of evil according to my witch Davina."

"Perhaps Davina is mistaken in what she calls evil for power. Celeste was certainly a very powerful witch… but she's been dead over 200 years. I don't understand why all these sketches now."

"Why does any witch do anything?"

Tyler came in and began to retrieve for Davina a smoothie.

CRASH!

Tyler ran upstairs with the smoothie in hand.

"Well…" Hayley was saying. But I interrupted her. I wanted my big brothers' attention.

"Ah. That's going well."

"If you're trying to get her to trust you, trying to kill her wasn't the smartest thing to do."

"Are there any more inopportune deaths you'd like to wave in my face Elijah?"

"Give me a month. I'll get you a list." I laughed. That would be interesting, before I heard another crash upstairs.

"Young, old, dead or alive witches are a pain the ass." I got up to go deal with her. Davina was hugging Tyler while she coughed.

"What's with all the racket?" I noticed she was coughing dirt of all things. "Bloody hell." Everything was shaking, falling and breaking.

"What's going on?" Asked Beky.

"Davina." I answered, like she didn't know.

"This is madness. How can a 16 year old witch shake the entire French quarter?"

"I've seen her rock the church but nothing like this."

"Well how did you control her before?"

"I didn't have to… but then… I never tried to kill her."

"Yes, yes we've been over this part already. The point is right now she's useless against the witches."

"SHE IS NOT A TOOL. Something's wrong with her."

"She has too much power she cannot control. That much we already knew. Why is it manifesting in such an aggressive manner." He said heading out.

"And where the bloody hell do you think you're going Lijah?"

"This is witch business. Let's ask a witch." Again communicating with the enemy. When he returned he had Sophie Devereaux.

"So you've stolen the remains of an old witch. Davina has been drawing her for months. Care to explain this startling coincidence?"

"I can't. I didn't know who Celeste Dubios was until I—" she was interrupted by Davina, who Tyler immediately ran for.

I started laughing. "Elijah I had no idea that Dubwah was her last name. Sounds stupid to me."

"Do be mature Niklaus." I stopped laughing, took a sip of my drink.

"Was that Davina?" Sophie asked as the ground stopped shaking.

"Charming little habit she's picked up."

"And the earthquake?"

"Also Davina. And she's taken to vomiting dirt a well."

"We have a huge problem. We need to do the Harvest Ritual now."

"Said the desperate witch conveniently."

(Tyler POV)

I was hugging Davina and she clung to me.

"Tyler… Tyler I hurt. It hurts. Help me."

"The only way is sedatives. They want to finish the ritual. NO!" but I was thrown out the window by Rebekah.

I zoomed back to where Sophie, Marcel and Daddy were.

"Can't she channel some of that stupid power- magic? Bonnie says-"

"It's too powerful to channel. Besides there aren't enough witches to-"

"What if I ask Bonnie to come? She could help couldn't she?"

"No. It cannot be channeled."

I tore out of the room to find my friends Thierry, Diego and Josh. Maybe they could help.

(Klaus POV)

"You sedated her too heavily." Elijah said.

"Well if this is her sedated I'd hate to see her otherwise. Had any luck Ty?" he shook his head. 'Poor lad.'

"We all agreed to have Davina sacrificed. There's no need to let her blow the roof of our heads in the meantime."

"No way are you touching her." BAM!

"Okay I'll let you have that one."

"Marcel no one wishes to see Davina come to harm less than I—"

"No. Marcel is the one who cares the most!" Elijah finished and Marcel turned to me.

"I saved her. Now you just want me to turn her over?"

"Do you think that I'm happy about this? If they complete the harvest, not only do they regain power but we lose our weapon against them."

"She's not a weapon, she's a friend." Tyler said. I ignored him.

"The earthquake I was willing to chalk up to hideous accident. If Davina is not sacrificed every inch of ground that shook, everything blowing about now will be drenched in water and consumed by fire."

"Oh NOW you care about the city."

"We ought to. We built it."

"We all saw it burned to the ground. Twice. I WON'T let that happen again. Do I make myself clear Marcellus?"

"Yeah. Yeah." Marcel left the room.

"Not a people person are you Niklaus?"

"Nonsense. I love people. Just on my way to warn a couple of prominent ones. In case the weather gets out of hand. If you fancy yourself a fluid diplomatic perhaps you'd like to join?"

"Soon Sophie will be consecrating Celeste Dubois' remains. Though her actions are rehensible. I wish to pay my respects."

"Hey do you have a minute?" Hayley asked. I gave her a kiss.

"On my way out." Elijah said.

"Which one of us is the people person again?"

*Later*

"She's gone. He's taken her."

"Who has?"

"Bloody, bloody Marcel."

"And you wanted to run off and start a life with this man?"

"Says the man who was shaking up with him not two second ago. Okay we need to divide and conquer."

"I'll ask the witches for a locater spell."

"I'll check the church. They might be there."

"I'll check everywhere else."

I went downstairs to see Ty glaring at Hayley's back while she moved glasses and cans of food into boxes. I smacked the back of his head. Then went to Hayley, who was crying. Poor girl.

"What are you doing?"

"I was going to take these to the—"

"If you say bayou I will find a nice comfy dungeon and throw you in it. This is not the night to be out there."

"For anyone. But some don't have a choice… Nik."

"Right." I grabbed the one she was messing with. "Grab that lot. Both of you are coming with me." They did and I led them to the church where both wolf clans waited.

"We still haven't gone through what you've already provided."

"Well this newest bit is for the other clan. Not mine."

"Well that's very kind of you…"

"Hayley." She looked around. "And these people are?"

"Oh I asked him to give them shelter. Both of my and your clan. He suffers from an incessant desire to do good. But now I need you to be useful. Marcel and Davina have disappeared. I assume from the stupefied look on your face their not in the attic."

"Those days are gone."

"Then energize your resources. I don't need to remind you how important it is that they be found."

"Niklaus, where are your manners?" asked MY father.

"I did use my manners. I didn't threaten his life."

"What do you mean your clan?"

"The blood that runs in their veins runs through mine… and in our child's."

"This family just keeps getting complicated."

"Listen love." I said putting my hand on her cheek. "Hayley. Word of advice when dealing with Elijah. Don't do as I do. Just apologize. He's a very accomplished man in many things. But he is a master of, in experience, forgiveness." I removed my hand and kissed where it had been, then took my son with me.

*Later that day*

"It's taken a thousand years but you've finally gone mad. Our own mother?"

"Yes. Our beloved mother who Niklaus has affectionately kept in a box, not daggered but dead nevertheless in his basement."

"Well she DID try to kill us all."

"Well I say that we put it to use and once and for all. Now if we bury our mother on land owned by one of her descendants… she becomes a New Orleans witch. We as her family share in that magic."

"We're vampires. We can't do magic or improperty for that matter."

"Yes about that… not all of her descendants are dead."

"My child?"

"The plantation just outside, Hayley has the title. If we bury our mother there we consecrate those grounds, we can finish the Harvest Ritual."

"You're a bit of a mad genius Elijah. But I think Beky should speak first." We turned to her.

"I'm all for it."

"Good, I'd love the idea of a Hybrid witch child."

"Very well."

"This is not a family reunion without our Mother. I'll fetch her." So we took our mother to the ground and we met Rebekah there.

"Did you find them?" She nodded. "Will he bring her?"

"He'll bring her."

"Are you ready to do this?" Kieran handed me a blade.

"Always and Forever." I said and I was repeated by my siblings. 'YAY *little happy dance*' I took it and cut my palm and took the umbrella after handing the dagger to Rebekah. It went until after my boy cut his own palm and handed it to Kieran.

"It is done." Tyler stood in the rain waiting. I wanted to give him an umbrella but I knew he wouldn't take it.

"Fire." Sophie said. I looked up, alert. Marcel was bring Davina. Now with fire following. I sighed in relief that the city wasn't going to burn. Tyler on the other hand looked devastated. Tyler hugged Davina and Davina returned it before kissing his cheek, which he returned.

"Thank you Marcel… Tyler." Sophie put the blade in the fire one last time. "Do you believe in the Harvest?"

"I believe." Sophie cut her throat. Hayley gasped and looked away. Rebekah cried. Elijah looked at me. I made sure I showed no remorse. The rain stopped. Tyler looked at Sophie expectantly. I felt a tear drop. Light came out of Davina' arm and to the ground.

"After the Harvest comes the reaping. Their sacrifices made and accepted. We call upon our ancestors to resurrect your chosen ones." Nothing happened. She said it again. The same results. "Resurrect your chosen ones!" Nothing. "Please. I beg." Nothing happened. "No." Sophie fell and began to cry. Tyler went on asking her to rephrase and saying maybe those were the wrong words. Marcel glared at me. I gave him a reassuring look. After a few seconds he zoomed away. I left Tyler to sob at her death, first I had to deal with my first kid. He as well as the others were crying.

I ran home to see Marcel throw a chair at the banister. "That won't bring her back you know."

"This is your fault. I should never have let you anywhere near her."

"Marcel—"

"This city was fine, before you came. We were fine. Davina was safe. She was in control. If you hadn't gotten her worked up. If you hadn't tried to kill her."

"My condolences the girl is gone. But don't lose perspective, we still have the community. The vampires of this town—"

"I don't care about the vampires! She IS DEAD! DO YOU HEAR ME?!"

I zoomed up to him and helped him stand. I stared at him. Then I decided to use the type of comfort I use on Tyler and what I used to do with him. I pulled him into a hug and rubbed his back.

"I'm sorry. You may think I know nothing of your grief but you are wrong. I got eye contact with him to prove I wasn't lying. "In the days after I fled this city I thought you were dead. It was years before I could speak your name, so keenly did I feel that lose. I'm sorry. I'm sorry lil' mate." I said and got back to hugging him.

Eventually he fell asleep. I put him on the couch as Rebekah came in leading Tyler who was being hysterical. I took him into my embrace and sat down. I comforted him the same as Marcel. He eventually fell asleep too.

"This whole thing was doomed from the start. You know. Yes we saved the city. I'm not upset about the witches losing their power. But this did not go down the way I thought it would. You surprised me though. You were quite resourceful today. How did you know where to find them?"

"You're not the only one with spies Nik."

"I don't give you your due, do I?"

"I knew Eli's plan was mad but… I thought it would work."

"So did I. Don't be upset. Please?"

"What about the power? Four were supposed to rise, but none did. Where did all that power go?"

"I don't know but you are on to something little sister. First I have to get these two to bed." I said and I picked them both up. I carried them to my room and slept with them that night because I felt that with all the drama today that they needed me.
