The leaders of the Eldin Militia stood atop a hill, overlooking the siege below them. Nal Ordona had had some time to repair their defenses, but they hadn't managed to accomplish any reconstruction of real significance. Their walls were still weak and ready to crumble.
In the Governor's manor, the leaders of the Rebellion were all united, trying to devise a last minute strategy.
"What are we going to do?" Bo panicked, "We don't have the proper defenses! We're wide open!"
"Calm down, Governor," Ganondorf attempted to reassure the man, "We're not sitting ducks here. The Militia hasn't made it through the walls yet, Onox's men are keeping them at bay."
"But for how long?! It can't last! Not long! And then they'll get through the walls and-"
"When that happens, we'll fight them!" spoke the Sheikah Lieutenant at Ganondorf's side. "Man to man, tooth and nail if needs be. Same as always."
"I… I… but…," Bo stammered before giving up. "Yes, of course."
Link reassuringly rested his hand on Bo's shoulder. One may easily have mistaken him for a coward, but his concern was mainly for the non-combatant inhabitants of the city, as well as fearing the prospect of losing Nal Ordona to the Royalists.
"Fear not, Governor," Ganondorf spoke up, "It's only the Eldin Militia. Not as well-trained, nor anywhere near as sizeable a force as the Hylian Army. We'll endure."
"Right, of course," Bo answered, wiping the sweat from his brow. "Sorry, it's just… we've struck such a blow against Barbarus. I don't like coming so close to being set back so far."
"Onox and his men are more than capable of keeping the Militia from getting past the walls," Ganondorf said confidently.
A loud crash was heard from outside. Sheik moved towards the window to see what had happened. He facepalmed and turned to Ganondorf and Bo. "General, Governor; the Moblins have brought down our own wall."
Near the city walls, or what was left of them, the fierce battle raged on. Despite their disadvantage in numbers and seemingly in skill, the Militia fought bravely against the Rebels. They were managing to hold their own rather well, even against the incredibly destructive Moblins.
They were quite a sight to behold in battle: the brutality and the ruthlessness. It was incredibly the Militia hadn't turned tail and ran away by this point. If anything, it seemed they were fighting harder to overcome the monstrous warriors.
But that would be no easy feat.
Onox let out a roar as he swung his flail about, knocking several Militia away, severely wounding them in the process. He let out a booming laugh as he rampaged across the battlefield, the thrill of battle coursing through him. He threw the ball of his flail high into the air, and began spinning the grip in his hand, the spiked sphere revolving around him, preventing any from coming close. As he did, he let out a fierce shout, signaling his troops, mainly the Moblins, to rush in and begin tearing apart the Militia distracted by him. They followed their orders.
"Captain Onox!" Ganondorf called out, riding up next to the man on his horse, Link and Sheik alongside him. "What's going on? Why are the Moblins bringing down the wall?"
Onox let out a chuckle. "Sorry, General," he said, "they get a little carried away in battle."
"Yes, I've noticed," Ganondorf said, scowling. "Keep them under control."
"I'll do my best, General," Onox replied, "but I make no promises they'll listen so long as the Militia keep fighting at full strength." He pointed up to the hill overlooking Nal Ordona. An armor-clad knight bearing the Royal Crest on a banner sat atop a white steed, surrounded by Eldin Militiamen, their face obscured in a great helm.
"A King's Shield? One of the Royal Family's personal guardsmen?" Sheik asked perplexed. "Here?"
"Aye," Onox answered. "Symbol of the Hylian Monarchy. No doubt a source of inspiration for their most patriotic. If they were to lose him, they'd no doubt lose a fair amount of their will to fight." He ran finger across his throat.
"So why haven't you taken them out yet?" Sheik asked.
"Been trying to keep the Moblins in line," Onox answered, gesturing to the raging battle.
"Why not charge up the hill?" Sheik inquired.
"That'd leave the hole in the wall wide open for the Royalists to march through," Ganondorf answered for him. He turned to Link. "Ready to strike a blow for the cause, Link?"
Link gripped Epona's reigns tightly. "If need be."
Ganondorf simply smiled and nodded in response, and drew his sword. He turned to Onox and said, "Keep the Moblins near the walls as the rest of the army proceeds, Captain." He reared back on his horse and let out a war cry. "ADVANCE!"
"MOBLINS! HOLD POSITION!" Onox's voice thundered.
A large part of the Rebels within the walls shouted out in response, and marched out onto the battlefield without the walls.
Link slapped Epona's reigns, and the mare took off up the hill towards the Shield. He drew his sword from its sheath, and swung at the Militiamen as he rode by.
"Guardsman!" he called out. "You and me."
The Shield turned his head towards Link, and silently held out his arm, signaling for the Militiamen to stand back. He drew a rapier from his side.
The guardsman lunged forward, his blade aimed at Link's heart. Link parried the attack with his own blade, and kicked his opponent in the stomach. The Shield stumbled back, recoiling from the blow. He straightened himself up, and swung his blade, leaving a small cut on Link's arm.
Link inhaled sharply, the wound stinging. He swung his sword at the Shield, cutting into his breastplate somewhat. Link slashed again, but the Shield dropped down, and swung his rapier at Link's legs.
The thin blade cut slightly into Link's left leg. He kicked with his right, landing a strong blow in the Shield's helmed face.
The Shield fell to the ground, and struggled to his hands and knees. Link stood over him, raising his sword above the guardsman. Before Link could plunge the blade into him, the Shield grabbed Link's leg and dragged him off his feet.
Link fell to the dirt, his sword falling from his grasp. The Shield rose to his feet, and pointed his own sword at Link's throat.
Link raised his hands into the air as a sign of surrender. Then, he quickly seized the rapier by the blade with both hands, the blade slicing into the palms of his vambraces, and yanked it from the Shield's grip. He delivered a swift kick to the Shield's stomach, and then a fierce punch to their head. The Shield's helmet tumbled off their head and into the dirt.
He grabbed the rapier by the handle, and held it to the Shield's throat. He then took a step back in shock, as he locked eyes with HER.
The Shield was actually a woman – a beautiful one at that. Her long blonde hair had been pulled back into a bun, and her bright blue eyes showed a fierce determination.
As Link was distracted, a grey-haired Sheikah woman in thin metal armor leapt between him and the Shield. She slashed at him with a dagger, and he fell back.
"Men!" she called to the Militiamen, "Get her out of here!"
The Militiamen drew their weapons and ran to the Shield's side. Link, who had regained his composure, swept the Sheikah's legs out from under her. She fell to the ground as Link stood up, and charged towards the Militiamen, the Shield's rapier in hand.
He slashed at the man nearest him, cutting him across the face. He turned to another, and readied to attack. He felt a sharp pain in his shoulder, and dropped the sword. The Sheikah woman ripped a dagger out of his back. Then she knocked Link to the ground.
She approached Link, preparing to finish him off.
The Sheikah raised her dagger over him, and a throwing needle flew by, cutting her across the nose bridge. She took a step back, and Ganondorf's lieutenant, Sheik, leapt in and rammed his knee into the woman's jaw.
She tumbled to the ground, and Sheik was joined by several other Rebels. Ganondorf rode up behind them, his sword drawn.
"That's enough!" the Shield shouted at the Sheikah. "We're beaten. Retreat."
The Sheikah woman protested, "But, my lady-"
"That's an order!" the Shield shouted back, her eyes pleading for the woman to obey.
The Sheikah woman nodded and took off into the distance. Surrounding Militiamen joined her.
Ganondorf dismounted his horse, and walked over to the Shield as sat on the ground, a Rebel holding his spear at her throat. He took one look at her and began to laugh.
"Well, I'll be damned," he said, still laughing.
"I wouldn't bet against it," the Shield said, scowling.
"Do you know who this is?" he asked his men. "This isn't a King's Shield. This is Princess Zelda! Barbarus' niece!" His laughter grew louder.
Sheik raised his fist, several needles held between his knuckles. "So let's put her down."
"No!" Ganondorf ordered, stretching his arm out in front of the young Sheikah. "No, she's far more valuable to us alive."
"Do what you will and get it overwith," Zelda told the Rebels around her. "I've fought bravely to defend my people's kingdom from you! I don't fear you!"
Ganondorf smiled. "Sheik," he said, "burn the Hylian banner."
"Yes, sir," Sheik nodded.
"Men," Ganondorf said, turning to the nearby Rebels. "bind her."
The men obeyed, and tied Zelda's hands behind her back.
Ganondorf grabbed the restrained Zelda and lifted her over his head. He stood overlooking the battle and let out a mighty shout. "ELDIN MILITIA! ROYALIST SOLDIERS! YOUR PRINCESS HAS BEEN DEFEATED! SURRENDER AND BE SPARED!"
The battle below slowly grinded to a halt as Ganondorf's message echoed through the Ordon skies. They looked up and saw the Princess raised over the Gerudo's head, and the Royal Crest burning beside them. It was a clear message: Today, the Rebels had won.
Many Militiamen threw down their weapons. Some turned and ran. Not one kept fighting.
Sheesh, ya know, that ending actually seems kinda depressing, despite the fact that it's a good thing.
OH WELL.
So tell me, what do you think? Leave a review.
