Nanami Haruka didn't know if life hated her or what. Or maybe it was just her luck that she always seemed to attract trouble wherever she went. Whichever it was, she didn't know how she ended up in this unknown place; sitting on top an unknown teenage boy.
"What the hell?" He said angrily. "Get off of me."
And they said fortune would come to you when you help other people…
Or should she say…robot.
…
…
The month's Composing Week had officially ended, fun and games were over and Nanami Haruka was officially back to work. She's required to write a song for each members of STARISH plus one group song, a total of eight songs to make. Without her realizing it, it was already the deadline for the passing of the music drafts to Shining Saotome. The month's songs were a bit harder for her to compose, due to the 10-year-old curse. Her memories were still fuzzy. But through some miracle, her memories became clear one day and she managed to finish the song on time.
But when she arrived at Shining's office, then did it occur to her that she was missing one song, and it happened to be the most important one of them all—the group song. Shining clearly wasn't pleased. And everyone knows what happens to an employee of the Shining Agency when they displeased their president.
They get fired.
Of course, Haruka didn't want that to happen. So after begging him to give her an extension, Shining finally gave in.
"Buuuuuuuuuuutoooo!" His shades glinted dramatically. "You must finish it within three hours." He shoved three tanned fingers on Haruka's face.
Golden eyes widened, hands fell hopelessly to her side. Well that was practically…impossible.
It usually took her three days to make a song. How could she do that in such a short time? Shining saw the displeasure in her face, so before she can protest he immediately said this.
"You should be happy that I'm willing to extend the deadline until this afternoon, not many of Shining Agency's composers get this privilege. But since you're a talented girl and have been working for me for nearly five years, I will be kind enough to wait for you. But!" He shouted dramatically, even pausing for a few seconds just for effects. "…"
"…"
Haruka blinked…
…Twice…
"…If you fail to submit within three hours, you'll be fired!"
Haruka realized that it was pointless to argue with him. His words were absolute after all. That was Shining's law. So rather than waste her time moping around, she excused herself and decided to go home, have some peace and quiet, and start her composing as soon as possible. Even if Shining was being too demanding, she still needed to do her job. It he had the right to be because, well, he was the boss!
Haruka has no choice but to comply with his high demands.
When she went out of the office, to her surprise the elevator was out of order. She was pretty sure it was working a while ago; in fact she used that elevator to go here. The rosette released a heavy sigh; it was just bad luck that she was forced to use the stairs when she needed to hurry the most. Oh, and she needed to remind herself that Shining's office was located on the 10th floor of the building.
Great. Haruka tried to massage her forehead.
After approximately 25 minutes, she reached the ground floor. And I assure you—she looked like a mess. Haruka was sweating badly; her hair was so damp with sweat it looked like she had a shower. Her bangs were parted at the middle, making her look rather nerdy. Her clothes stuck on her skin, making her feel more uncomfortable. What was worse, she couldn't feel her legs. She didn't understand why, of all days, she decided to wear heels that day.
Golden eyes peered at her wristwatch, heaving unevenly. Kami-sama knows why how she got here in just 25 minutes. Apparently, getting dragged by Tomo-chan to work out at the gym had its benefits.
Haruka really wanted to sit down and take a few minutes of rest, but she shook herself and reminded her that she had a time to follow. Even if her legs felt like falling apart and her lungs were about to explode, she had to get out of that place as soon as possible and start composing. She took one deep breath, before limping towards the exit.
The composer was now outside. She looked at her surroundings, wondering if a taxi was close-by. Just her luck, a taxi appeared. As soon as its passenger came out, Haruka entered and told the driver to take her to Hoshiboshi Apartment.
…
…
And then something came up.
"Driver-san," The rosette called in a slightly irritated tone. "Is it me or the car isn't moving, at all?"
"Sorry miss," The driver said, "it seemed like there was an accident nearby, and…"
Haruka didn't even wait for him to finish. She checked the meter and took out her money. She gave it to the driver without a word and went outside, not caring if she was in the middle of the highway. The cars weren't moving after all, there was no possible way some car would hit her.
So even if her feet were killing her, she decided to walk her way to her apartment. It was still a long way before she can get there, but because of the taxi ride, she was somewhat closer to her destination. Somewhat.
Then it rained.
Oh Kami-sama, why?! The rosette buried her face on the palm of her wet hands. The only good thing in that situation was that there was a shed nearby; she at least had shelter in this horrible situation. She decided to sit on the bench there until the rain stopped, but it seemed it was not planning to for a while.
Haruka wanted to cry. She really did.
Scratch that, she already was crying. Tears fell from her eyes, dripping ever so slowly on her closed fist, as if mocking her. Pristine white teeth gritted against each other, sobs escaped from her lips. This was probably the worst day in her life! Stupid Shining, stupid elevator, stupid taxi driver, even if it wasn't his fault an accident occurred. And most importantly…
"STUPID RAIN!" The rosette screamed while standing abruptly. Both of her hands were forming a fist.
"According to my data…" A voice from behind her said flatly, golden eyes widen and she spun around. "People who talk to themselves are considered as 'insane'. Tell me, Nanami. Are you insane?"
"Mikaze-sempai…?"
Haruka couldn't believe this; there in front of her stood the cyan-haired sempai, Mikaze Ai. His all white attire was drench from the rain, she was about to ask if he's feeling cold or anything when she remembered this important fact about this QUARTET NIGHT member: he was a robot. Haruka was one of the few people who knew about him being an Artificial Intelligence, the other people being his kouhais Natsuki and Syo, and his creator.
The only reason why she even knew about this secret was because during one incident, Ai's arm fell off from his body in front of Haruka. And of course, the rosette panicked. She screamed for help and the two blond STARISH members came rushing and wondered if something was going on. You can guess what their reactions were.
The teal-haired blinked blankly that time before ordering coolly, 'Take me to the professor.' Since then, when things happened to the robot-idol, Haruka or his kouhais would take him to the 'professor,' which was his creator, for repairs. Speaking of repairs…
"Mikaze-sempai…" Haruka eyed him with interest. "Are you waterproof?"
Out of nowhere, Ai started fuming. Literally. Sparked flew out of his head and he fell over, good thing Haruka caught him, but she almost got crushed because of his weight. She only realized this now that Ai was made out of metal.
Well, that answered her question.
Slowly, the rosette placed the idol on the bench. As soon as she was done, she fished out her phone from her bag and called the professor.
"Hello?" On the background, drilling and hammering can be heard. He was probably on with his experiments.
"Hello, professor," Haruka said softly. "It's me, Nanami Haruka."
"Oh, Nanami-san!" It seemed like he left his work and went to another room because everything seemed much quieter. "I assume something happened to Ai again?"
Even though he couldn't see her on the phone, Haruka nodded. "Yes. It looked like he was out in the rain for—" She peeked at the 'resting' robot on the bench and examined his clothes."—quite some time. He started fuming a few minutes ago and shut down."
"Hm…I see." There was a short pause. "Nanami-san, may I ask you to take Ai here? I'm kind of busy right now so I won't be able to pick him up."
Haruka paled. She looked at the sky and realized that the rain already stopped. She could go; just a little bit more and she'd be at her apartment. She could write a song for Shining and she can continue her life as a composer.
"Nanami-san? Are you still there?"
She turned her head and looked at Ai's sleeping face, biting her lips. But she just couldn't leave him there. Kami-sama knows what would happen to him if Haruka left him right there on the ground, lifeless.
She looked at her watch and a gasp escaped from her lips. Two hours left! Just two hours and she hasn't even started the song yet!
"Nanami-san—"
"It's fine." Haruka answered, faking a cheerful tone. "I'll take Mikaze-sempai there. See you in…thirty minutes?"
Which means one hour and thirty minutes left…
"Thirty minutes? That's a long way from here!" he chuckled. "I'm sorry if you're busy, Nanami-san. I know you have a lot to do as a composer but you're still willing to accept my request."
She shook her head. "It's fine, professor. You know I could never leave my friends at their bad times."
Even if my situation is as bad as theirs, Nanami added as an afterthought.
…
…
Thirty minutes later, they arrived at the professor's laboratory. It took Haruka's everything not to slam her face against the window as she waited impatiently for the taxi to take them there. Thankfully, the professor carried Ai himself inside the laboratory. With her aching feet and her horrible mood, the composer wasn't ready to carry the one-ton robot inside.
"So Haruka…" The professor handed her a mug of coffee, which Haruka gratefully accepted. "Where did you find Ai?"
"I didn't really find him…" Haruka played with the mug's handle. "He just popped out of nowhere and before I knew it, he broke down."
"I see." He said before he started repairing Ai, the rosette drank her coffee in silence. To a normal person, it might be weird seeing your sempai getting his screws and motherboard fixed. Yet Haruka got used to it that it seemed like a daily occurrence in life to see such a bizarre scene.
The mug almost fell from her hands when she remembered the time. She looked at her watched and groaned, one hour and twenty minutes. Oh no, oh no, oh no…at that rate, she was going to get kicked out of the company. She's going to get kicked out of the company!
Then an idea popped inside her mind.
"Ne, professor-san?"
The professor stopped working and turned towards the rosette. "Yes, Nanami-san?"
"Mikaze-sempai has a synthesizer in his room, right?"
He nodded. "Um… yes. But I don't know if it's still working because he hasn't been visiting me for a while."
"I…I see." Golden eyes darkened, her mood immediately fell. Haruka shook her head; it's too early to give up! She's going to see it for herself if it's working or not! "Professor, may I borrow it for a while? I'm just going to compose…"
"Oh, it's fine!" He smiled. "I know Ai wouldn't mind! Go ahead!"
The composer smiled.
"I'm sorry for asking this again and again but… where's Mikaze-sempai's room?"
The professor chuckled. "Oh dear, Nanami-san. You're really bad at memorizing places, aren't you?" She looked down, a blush on her face. "It can't be helped I suppose. Go straight ahead and…"
After a few seconds of listening to him, Haruka's eyes became swirls.
"Did you get it?" He asked politely.
The composer nodded slowly, and she headed towards the direction the professor said Ai's room was.
"Oh, Nanami-san!" The professor shouted before she disappeared across the hall. Haruka turned around. "Please don't go to the room on the left… across the…"
What was he saying…? Haruka's eyes became swirls again.
Finally, he stopped sputtering directions, much to her relief. "It's pretty dangerous on that room."
"Why?" Haruka couldn't help but ask.
"Just…" The professor shook his head. "Don't."
She nodded, knowing her manners, and headed towards the hallway. And instead of finding Ai's room, she found herself falling from a high place. She screamed, grabbing whatever anything that might stop her fall, but sadly, she was falling from the… sky?
After much screaming, she finally landed on the ground. Surprisingly, the ground was soft. Haruka blinked and looked down. Golden eyes widen, it seemed a boy caught her fall. Involuntarily. Which meant she was currently crushing the poor boy.
"What the hell?" He growled, his voice extremely low, it was on par with Jinguji's. "Get off of me."
And this is how our story started.
