On the tenth day of Christmas,
my true love gave to me
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five gold rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.
{Tuesday}
I had a headache. Probably from the cider last night; although I only had a glass or two, apparently that was too much.
I didn't have to go to school anymore as we had finished the year. I still had to go and help out for the play tonight though.
I dragged myself out of bed to get ready. The first thing I saw was my dress from last night. And it brought back a memory of last night under the mistletoe. Was it a memory or a dream? I couldn't even tell.
I shook my head of the dream. I had other things to think of today.
…
I finished tying Jane Philips' hair into a braided bun with a orange ribbon.
"Thank you," she squeaked and ran off to get her nose powdered.
"Why do they all sound like mice?" Jack's voice appeared behind me. I jumped.
"How do you do that?" I asked him
"Do what?"
"Creep up on people so silently?"
"Born trickster, I guess, comes naturally."
I wanted to ask him about last night but imagine how that would sound: Oh hey Jack. Listen I think you kissed me last night. But it could've been a dream. I can't tell. That would sound like I dream about things like that all the time. I mean sure he's come into my dreams more and… well I'm sounding creepy to myself now so I'll stop.
…
"Many nights we've prayed
with no proof anyone could hear
In our hearts a hopeful song
We barely understood"
"Do your ears hurt?" Jack whispered to me
I hit him "Hey at least they're trying. But yes they do."
We sat and watched as ten young boys dressed as lords jumped across the stage.
…
"Well done Philippa." Her mother congratulated her
"You did good Pip." Jack told her.
She grinned "I know." She ran to go and congratulate her classmates.
