Chapter Ten

"So let me get this straight. You're telling me that this witch has fooled you into thinking she is on our side, because she doesn't like the fact Davina wants to kill a foetus" Rebekah spat, looking at the witch with distaste as her hands balled into fists.

Caroline rolled her eyes before she picked up her bag, stepping towards the entrance to the courtyard before she heard a chuckle.

"If you think you're going anywhere love then you're mistaken, you're a target now you made yourself known to the witches" Klaus elaborated, his signature smirk on his face although she still saw the rage in his eyes; their argument was definitely not over.

"You know what I've had enough of this. The plantation is gone Nik, the witch made sure she burnt that down as well. I'm sick of sitting around here and waiting for everything to happen instead of doing anything. It's bloody ridiculous. Let's just kill her already" Rebekah cried, her hands flinging up before Klaus turned to her.

"I've had quite enough of you tonight dear sister, why don't you go to bed and let the adults have a conversation" Klaus growled, standing face on to his sister who looked at him in disbelief, her head shaking.

"You know Nik, if you don't be careful you're going to be the death of that child" Rebekah spat, pushing into him as she headed towards the stairs.

"I'd watch your tone if I was you love" He growled, following her with his eyes.

Rebekah was just about to open her mouth before Hayley stepped in.

"Will you two just shut up? I've had enough of you behaving like five year olds all the time" She shot daggers at the pair of them before picking up her bag and following Rebekah over to the stairs. "I'm going to bed. I've had enough of vampires for the night" Her eyes flashed over Caroline before she reached out to her, Caroline instinctively stepping backwards.

Hayley rolled her eyes before picking up her bag again. "Your shoulder is bleeding, just thought I'd let you know" She spat before walking up the stairs to her room, slamming the door behind her.

Klaus flashed up to Caroline, his hand reaching out to her shoulder but she slapped him away.

"Don't touch me Klaus, I don't need your help. It'll heal" She spat, following suit of the two girls before her, pushing past Rebekah who was watching her from the stairs and also slamming her door.

"Well now you've sent the 'children' to bed would you like to continue Niklaus?" Elijah asked, distaste in his tone as he looked upon his brother with disappointment; something which didn't go unnoticed by Klaus.

Caroline slammed the door shut and pulled out her phone, she still needed to call Bonnie and Katherine back but there was no way she could do that now with the prying ears. She had never been more furious with Klaus, the way he just sent her to her room like a child saying she couldn't leave. Who did he think he was?

Sitting down on her bed she winced slightly as she pulled her shirt down to look at the wound and noticed that Hayley was right, it wasn't healing. Standing up she made her way into the bathroom to look at the wound in the mirror. As she looked at it her brow furrowed, there wasn't any glass left in there like she had thought; but why wasn't it healing?

Now she thought about it, it had been nearly 12 hours since she'd last fed and she was starving. But for some reason, she didn't feel well enough to keep the blood down and there was no way she was leaving her room and interrupting 'adult talk' to get a blood bag.

Her hand leant on the sink as she steadied herself, suddenly feeling dizzy. Looking at herself, she was covered in sweat and she sighed, she needed someone to check her wound but there was no way she was going to ask Klaus. Instead, she went against her pride and flashed out of her room, flashing into Hayley's room next door quick enough so that she wouldn't be seen downstairs.

"Caroline, it's a bit late for an argument now" Hayley sighed, she too was obviously exhausted.

"I don't want an argument Hayley, I need your help" Caroline sighed, looking at Hayley with desperation.

Caroline had followed Hayley into her bathroom after she explained what had happened with Klaus.

"Caroline, I really am sorry that I didn't tell you about the baby. You were one of the few people around here that I trusted, especially as you thought the same about Cami and I didn't want to push you away. Honestly, I don't even know how or why it happened, but trust me when I say I hate Klaus and I would quite happily leave here if I could" Hayley had whispered as she stood behind Caroline, looking at her reflection in the mirror.

Caroline sighed before looking up into Hayley's reflection. "I understand why you didn't tell me and obviously, it isn't something I'm thrilled about, especially as I was the only one who didn't know but I don't feel like dealing with it now Hayley" She'd whispered and Hayley nodded.

"Okay, let's check this then" She nodded as she pulled down Caroline's shirt and frowned, reaching out to touch it before she cried, pulling her hand back and looking at Caroline who had flashed around to her.

"What's wrong?" Caroline asked, looking down at Hayley as she clutched her hand. Pulling her hand away she looked down to see the burns on her beginning to show.

"Is that…?" Caroline asked, her voice quiet as realisation hit her.

"That's werewolf venom and wolfs bane" Hayley explained, looking at how the wound was affecting Caroline but how it had burnt her as well. "What the hell?"

Caroline turned to look at the wound in the mirror and she sighed.

"That was Sophie's doing" She growled before pulling her shirt up and stumbling slightly.

"Don't tell Klaus Hayley, I'll go and see him tomorrow, it won't get that bad overnight" Caroline whispered as she pushed past Hayley who nodded silently. "Goodnight" She whispered, flashing back into her room and sighing as she looked at the presence sitting on her bed.

"What do you want Rebekah?"

Caroline hadn't slept at all that night, she just thrashed around in her bed, flashing between hot and cold as the venom took over her quicker than she had expected. Rebekah had bought her up a blood bag just before she went to bed herself, knowing that Caroline looked exhausted and would be too proud to go down past Klaus to get one. She hadn't noticed Caroline's bite though and Caroline wanted to keep it that way.

Sitting up in her bed she realised it was very early morning and she heard movement downstairs. Stumbling over to the door she listened in to hear Klaus and Elijah talking to each other.

"Are you sure it's a good idea to leave them here, together?" Elijah asked and she opened the door slightly to see Klaus nodding.

"Definitely, we need to check out Sophie's story and they'll be safer here than they would be with us on the road"

Caroline sighed. They were leaving again?

"Are we ready?" She heard Sophie asked and the next voice shocked her the most.

"Definitely, all set!" Cami cried and Caroline let out the breath she'd been holding before she turned around to see Rebekah standing by her window.

"They're leaving again" Rebekah nodded, obviously having ignored Klaus' order to stay inside the courtyard. "Following up a lead that Sophie has probably laid out for them. She and Cami are just as bad as each other and if my brothers are stupid enough to believe them then we're going to have to figure out a plan by ourselves" Rebekah spat, taking a seat on her bed as she listened to her brothers leaving with the two girls.

"See you in the morning" She winked, leaving Caroline alone again.

As morning came around Caroline awoke from the slumber that she somehow managed to fall into after Rebekah left. Reaching round to touch her wound she realised it was bigger than before and it wasn't until now that she'd remembered that Klaus and Elijah had left.

Looking up to the door, she looked into the eyes of Hayley who watched as Caroline pulled her hand away from her shoulder.

"You didn't tell him did you?" Hayley asked, disbelief on her face as she looked at Caroline. It was clear to see something wasn't right purely because of how exhausted and ill she looked.

"I didn't realise he was going to be leaving without saying goodbye did I" Caroline snapped as she looked out the window and over to her phone that had started buzzing. Hayley nodded as she stepped back out of the room and Caroline reached for her phone.

"Yes?" She asked, a frown forming on her face.

"Did you just fancy ignoring my calls then?" Katherine asked on the other end of the line.

"I've been held up Katherine" Caroline replied, pushing the cover off of her and walking into the bathroom again.

"Whatever. Whilst you've been sitting around doing nothing I've already formed an alliance with Davina, she thinks I'm going to help her kill the baby. She said another girl called Sophie is already acting out her part of the plan and it's my job to come in and set up whilst they're gone. What have you found out?" Katherine asked.

"Wait, what? Sophie is still with Davina?" Caroline asked, running the water and splashing herself with it.

"Yes Caroline. What's the matter with you? You don't seem like your normal smart self and you're quite frankly irritating me. Have you got anywhere or found out anything?" She snapped and Caroline jumped as the door slammed open.

"I'll call you back" She snapped as she hung up the phone and looked at Rebekah.

"So were you ever planning on telling me about your bloody wound?" Rebekah growled as she flashed over to Caroline and pulled down her shirt, looking at the wound with a frown.

Caroline had been held up in her room all day after Rebekah had found out about her wound. She'd been forcing her to drink blood bag after blood bag to keep her strength until she managed to get a hold of Niklaus or Elijah.

The venom was taking hold of her quite quickly but Sophie was incredibly clever to lace it with wolfs bane as well; that way neither Rebekah nor Hayley could help her clean it.

Despite the fact that it was affecting her very quickly, she still felt very serene. Her previously werewolf bites have left her in pure agony and writhing in pain; although she still felt that, there was a sense of serenity and peace, almost like she was floating away.

Rebekah slammed into her room again followed by Hayley and pulled out her phone, angrily tapping away.

"I've left them about a thousand messages now, if they have any sense to look at their phones" She spat before chucking another blood bag at Caroline who dodged it and frowned.

"I don't want another blood bag Rebekah, stop force feeding me them. They aren't making a difference!"

"How is she not dead yet? You look ill and your body is showing the signs of a bite, but you seem stupidly calm, what's going on?" Rebekah asked and Caroline looked at her one last time before she closed her eyes and drifted off, white light surrounding her.

"It's nice to meet you again Caroline, I hope that nasty wound Sophie gave you isn't effecting you too much" The girl smirked and Caroline opened her eyes to see Davina in front of her, dressed in a long white dress and holding some flowers.

Caroline watched her as she stepped towards her, dropping a flower one at a time.

"Unfortunately, our last meeting didn't end as I had hoped, but I did promise you would be collateral damage. I think it's time that we teach Klaus Mikaelson a lesson don't you? He stole one of my team and it's now time for him to lose one of his as well. You don't have long left Caroline" Davina spoke and Caroline watched as her eyes turned black and her mouth filled with blood and she stopped walking as her dress turned to flames and the flowers dropped to the floor; black. Caroline turned behind her, starting to run before the flames engulfed her and she screamed as the flames burnt through her body.

Rebekah and Hayley panicked as they watched Caroline's eyes close and her body relax.

"What's happening to her?" Hayley asked as they noticed the sweat pooling off of Caroline, soaking the sheets below her.

"I have no bloody idea. Caroline? Caroline can you hear me?" Rebekah shouted as she reached out to touch her, pulling her hand away in pain as she looked at the blisters on her skin. "Ouch! She burnt me!" Rebekah looked behind at Hayley before Caroline started screaming, thrashing around on the bed.

Within seconds the door had been pushed open and Bonnie rushed in and over to Caroline's side, watching her intently.

"Bonnie? What are you doing here?" Rebekah asked as she stood up, turning towards the Bennett witch in shock.

"Katherine called me hours ago telling me Caroline was in trouble" Bonnie explained, looking up at Rebekah and Hayley and Rebekah frowned.

"Katherine?" She asked before she turned towards the door, her eyes flashing black as the vampire walked into the room.

"Unlike you, I can tell when there's something wrong with Caroline immediately and who better to call than the witch?" Katherine asked.

"Why are you even talking to Caroline? She hates you" Rebekah asked, turning to face the intruding vampire and Katherine laughed.

"You have so much to be filled in on Rebekah; I've been in contact with her for weeks now. But I think it would be better if she told you herself, so how about we work together to save her life and then you can try and kill me afterwards?" Katherine smirked as she looked at Hayley.

Rebekah was about to retaliate but Bonnie interrupted their power struggle. "We need to get her to water, Davina is inside her mind and she's burning her, she's needs to go into cold water, a lake or a pool or something" Bonnie exclaimed as she felt Davina's presence. She looked expectantly at Rebekah and she turned to Hayley.

"There's the lake near the bayou" Hayley exclaimed and Bonnie nodded, reaching forward and pulling Caroline up.

"I know she'll burn you, but she needs to get there quickly. Hold her in the water and when she cools down Davina will lose her influence on her mind. We'll get there as soon as we can" Bonnie explained and Rebekah nodded, reaching forward and grabbing hold of Caroline before flashing out of the room.

Bonnie turned to Hayley. "We really need Klaus or she's going to die"

Rebekah arrived at the river and flashed in, engulfing both herself and Caroline in the water as she watched the young girl in front of her.

"Come on Caroline, you're stronger than her" Rebekah whispered as she pushed Caroline's soaking wet hair away from her face, watching as the blonde lit up the dark water.

Rebekah stood holding Caroline for what seemed like ages before Bonnie, Katherine and Hayley finally turned up at the side of the river. She was finally starting to cool down and Bonnie had trudged through the water to join Rebekah in holding Caroline.

"Davina's losing her hold on her" Bonnie whispered as her hands helped support Caroline in the water.

"Bonnie watch out!" Rebekah cried, the last thing Bonnie heard before her world turned to black.
