"These are chakra papers, you use them to determine your natural elemental affinity. Normally they only detect your primary affinity. Ignoring all others you may posses, bar bloodlines with give you dual primary affinties." Jiraiya gave a smug smirk, holding up the papers. "However, through the clever use of seals I developed in the Second war, these are much better. They determines all of your affinities, even Yin and Yang release, as well as the strength of your chakra. I used them when I trained the Fourth Hokage."
Naruto frowned. 'But you didn't think to give this to the village to boost pur power? How irresponsible is this man, hiding such a mountain if information and skill from his waning village.' Quickly faking a smile, Naruto stole a paper from Jiraiya's hand. "How do we use them?"
"Give them a taste of your chakra, they'll do the rest."
Naruto channeled his power into the paper and saw several Kanji appear, linked with a tiny thread if Kanji. 'Record the seal, Kurama...we can test your chakra later.' The Fox grunted, notes of curious excitement in his chakra. "Hmmm... Wind, Earth, Water, Yin and Yang chakra... nice." The kanji for each element glew, some brighter then the others. "Wind and Yang Chakra is greatest in me, with Earth and Yin being the next strongest... nice." In the middle was a Kanji for 10, making him curious. "That must be my chakra strength."
Curious, he turned to Team 8.
Hinata, shockingly enough, had an affinity for all of the Elements with Fire and Lightning being her strongest. Her Chakra strength was a seven.
Kiba had Yin, Yang, Earth and Lightning as his elements, going strongest to weakest in that order. Akamaru had Yin, Yang and Fire. Both had a five for their chakra strength.
Shino's was, by far, the most surprising. His Chakra strength was a solid eight, and he had massively glowing Yin Chakra, a mildly weaker Yang affinity and a strong Water and Earth Affinity.
Jiraiya whistled. "Chakra powerhouses, all of you... Genetics helps you all, given you are all members of old clans. The number is in terms of Chakra density and strength. Kiba, your family his younger so it isn't that surprising. Naruto, All Uzumaki's have incredibly dense chakra due to your healing factor and you are a Jinchuuriki so your chakra has taken parts of Kyuubi's nature. Dense chakra is harder to control, which is why Hinata's isn't as high as Shino's or Naruto's. Shino, you have to support the bugs inside of you, so you have to get more bang for your ryo. The denser chakra is more filling to your beetles.
As for Yin Chakra... well, intelligence and personality affects it, but for Shino, Kiba and Akamaru, you have a strong reliance and symbiotic relationship with another being. Your Yin chakra has to be stronger to compensate for the added connection. And Naruto... well, you have a connection, a powerful one, to Kyuubi. You share thoughts abd emotions. It is little wonder you bear such strong Yin Chakra.
As for your elements, I am versed in all elements but Fire, Earth and Wind are my specialties. Since you all have at least one element in common with me, we will start there. Kiba, Shino and Naruto, grab a rock and follow me. Hinata, grab a leaf and follow my clone."
Said clone popped into existence, taking Hinata and a bug shapped clone of Naruto's with them.
The real Naruto followed the rest of the boys to a further glen. Once there, he watched Jiraiya grab a rock and a hunk of dirt.
"Earth chakra is all about strength and density. If you are making a powerful defense, you need a great deal of density." In clear demonstration, Jiraiya channeled his chakra into the dirt, turning it into a solid rock. "If you need a mud or sand, you need to lessen the density but keep your attention on the individual parts." The rock crumbled into dust, cast into the air." Control is harder but I want you to learn this part first so you know how to properly use this chakra.
So, get started."
Naruto, excited to really learn something for once, got started right away.
'Let's see how this works... okay, it's about control, which I'm still kind of lacking. Hmmm... you know what I'm going to just blast it, then move on to control.'
One massive explusion of Chakra later and the stone exploded, several pieces caught in Naruto's body.
"Ow... thanks Kyuubi." The red chakra quickly healed his injuries, he ignored the looks his explosion got. "Well that's a no go..."
Pouting, he turned to the other guys. Shino's rock had dust trickling off of it, good control but no power. Kiba's wasn't doing much at all, and Akamaru's was cracking.
All in all what Naruto expected.
'I wonder how Hinata is doing.'
'Huh... fire is about controlling heat vs radiation of said heat.' Clone Naruto, having hid on a tree, focused on Hinata controlling how much of a leaf was burnt by the tiny flame without it fading out.
It looked boring but Hinata was doing well. Her control was perfect, but she had trouble maintaining the flame.
Jiraiya, for once not being a perv, actually applauded her effort. "Good job Hinata, you've done much better then some jonin I know."
Expectantly, she started to stammer so much the flame went out. Beetle Naruto rolled his eyes, before gasping at the tiny pain that exploded in his back.
'What the hell?' Was all he had to say before poofing out of existence.
Real Naruto recoiled at the sudden explosion of unexpected memories. Barely able to avoid the pain of his detonating rock.
'Kurama, what attacked my clone?'
"It took your chakra, so I'm betting on bug boy's bugs." The Fox growled low. "Clearly he doesn't trust you."
'That goes without saying... how are my charting clones?'
He had over a dozen clones charting out the entire area, over and over again, looking for caves, houses, landmarks, water sources, people of interest. Anything of potential value
After all, most people would have ignored Azula, but she ended up being an amazing figure. Skilled and informative.
"Good, we've found a good den, tonight we should mark it and consider making little hidey holes. Oh, and we've found a trail. Tomorrow we need a clone to investigate where ot goes. If I remember correctly we are not far from the capital of Fire country."
That made Naruto smile even as he failed with another rock.
'Awesome. Scour the library there if we can, I'm almost done with Azula's books though I need to re read them cause I'm already forgetting them. See if you can get instructions on the nearest port and the way to the nearest Monastery or temple. I need their taijutsu style and we both need their sealing skills.'
"Agreed. Jiraiya is approaching, I'd pay attention to him."
Giving an internal nod, Naruto turned to a very amused Jiraiya.
"Yes?"
The man actually chuckled. "I had the same issue. I think we need to devote a few hours a day to your control. I know you don't trust me yet. That's fine, but I need to know what control exercises you already know."
Smiling without hostility, Naruto raised his hand and counted off with his fingers.
"Tree and water walking, sword channelling and a few variations... not many really. My studies were more intellectual and behavioral. How to think, not what to think."
Jiraiya nodded slowly. "Okay... since your stamina is insane, after five, which we will be done with all of our training, I'll show you a few others. Water diverting and Chakra pulses I think. It's what your mother used to control her chakra, she taught your father them as well. It's how he mastered the Rasengan and Sage mode." Jiraiya went white on the last word, nodding lightly. "Anyway, your doing well, kid. Keep it up."
As Jiraya walked away, Naruto was left with a confused look. 'You noticed that, Kurama?'
The Fox laughed, long and deep. "Yes, and I know why. Sage mode is a terrifyingly powerful ability. A sage lf any level could fight me and live. What he might not be aware of is that I Already know how to do it. My powers come from the same place as Sage mode... your not ready for it yet. You literally would die if you screwed up. You need much better control and understanding of Chakra before we even consider attempting it."
A little shiver, of fear and excitement washed over him. 'Very, very cool.'
"Indeed... now, focus on your rock. I'm sure You inherited Earth chakra from me, so I want to learn as well."
'This is difficult...' Shino frowned at the rock on his hand, it was dusty but that was about it. 'My chakra levels are not enough to train in this for too long. I must sit down.'
A scroll was pulled from his pocket. He quickly set to reading it, even as a hidden clone of Jiraiya approached him from behind.
"Any news from your bugs?"
Without nodding, Shino spoke. "Naruto's chakra has been spiking, I believe it is a sign of Kyuubi's interference with him."
The sanin cursed. "Damn it... any positives news?"
"No... he had a clone spying in Hinata. I venture to say he is trying to learn Fire style early. Perhaps he still expects you to bail, or perhaps for something more insidious. We cannot be certain..."
"Your right... I wish you weren't. Tsunade did well sending you."
"Thank you."
In the distance, a hundred miles away, a Naruto clone in chipmunk form sprinted through the wilds. His eyes catching everything in sight. He made a point to twitch and eat like a normal chipmunk, knowing any ninja worth their salt would notice otherwise.
It was, whilst faking eating, that he noticed something. Foot prints, lightly burned in from chakra support. Clearly a ninja was around.
'Kurama, chipmunk me is calling... can you sense anything?'
The Fox shifted his attention to Chipmunk Naruto's mind. 'Yes... it's faint but I sense bloodlust and Anger. It's too faint to be natural. Something isn't right."
Concerned, Naruto followed the foot prints quite far back, until he saw the source.
Two masked men, whispering in the distance. They were clearly ninja, with...
White masks, midriff showing, half of a tanto on their back.
'Root... Azula mentioned them... said they are our most dangerous enemy in the Leaf...'Shaking, Naruto readied himself to poof away. 'If they found me if they are watching, we have to be careful. Memorize their chakra... Danzo scares me. He scared Azula.'
Kurama nodded, drawing himself away from Naruto's mind. "I already did. Leave."
Nodding, Naruto hurried away, poofing out of existence the moment he was behind a tree.
"He noticed us... " The Root captain turned towards the chipmunk's previous chakra. " Good, with his curiosity we may be able to convince him to speak to Lord Danzo earlier."
The younger operative nodded. "If he was trained by Azula, who we have been watching for decades, why did we not stop him?"
The Captain turned to his soldier. "She knew we were watching. She agreed to stay out of our affairs should we stay out of hers. Lord Danzo believes she only would have broken her word for someone serious, someone who could easily be a threat. We cannot destroy him with Jiraiya nearby, so our only option is to employ him. The boy could easily be persuaded, should it benefit him.
Letting him know we are watching gives us a chance to assess his secrecy, tracking, multitasking and to see just how self sufficient he really is. To see if he is worth employing, or if we need to capture him once he flees Jiraiya's side."
The soldier nodded to his superior. "Should we ensure he doea not learn sealing, to prevent his tampering with his seal?"
The Captain nodded. " If we can."
