Chapter 10 - Warmth

Bella POV

Stood in the water it felt warm, like being wrapped in a hot blanket, but the minute you stepped out of that blanket it was almost as if you were thrown into the artic. The air whipped around you swirling your hair away from your face and throwing it around you head, sending shivers through your neck and down your spine. I shivered violently desperately trying to warm myself up. I was stood on the sand, that felt oddly warm beneath my red painted toes, rubbing my body with a fluffy towel, feeling the cotton absorb the cold liquid.

I had ran out of the water trying to avoid making myself colder by having some part of my body in the water. Edward however had slowly sauntered out the water without a care in the world, snagging a towel from the sand and wrapping it loosely around his waist, allowing the wind to dry his body, all the while looking like a model. There must be something in men, different to women, that meant they didn't get cold. The water was slowly evaporating of his muscely chest, I glanced up catching his eyes. Uh oh. I got caught. I turned away from him, hiding my blush, and speed walked back to the car, realising only as I was furiously pulling on the handle that I didn't have the key. I heard Edward chuckle behind me as he slowly bent over to pick up the key from the sand, pressing the button to unlock the car. I dived in praying for warmth as I slammed the door behind me. No warmth came.

The key was still outside the car with Edward as he gathered the rest of the towels and out coats before stepping across the sand until he was stood next to the drivers side of the car. He opened the door and started to climb in slowly taunting me with the key dangling between his fingers. I grumbled reaching across and snatching the keys out of his hands, earning myself another chuckle. I jabbed the key in angrily and twisted it, feeling it click into place as the warmth I so desired roared out of the vents, blasting me in the face with a wave of hot air, turning my fingers and toes pink, making my body turn slowly numb. I shivered as the sensation took over my body.

I sat back in my seat content with the warmth now slowly taking over my body. Edward slowly pulled away from the beach front travelling back the way we came. I shivered again.

"It wasn't that cold!" Edward teased. I balled up the towel by my side throwing it at his head. "Bella, as the daughter of a police officer I would expect you to know better than to distract a person when they are driving." I snarled at him turning the upper half of my body, wrapping my arms around my torso, trying to keep some of the warmth in my body. "You'll warm up in a minute." Edward commented.

"Yeah, but you have a bigger body mass than me, so you keep in the heat better!" I answered back. Edward looked over at me, placing his hand above his heart feigning hurt and shock.

"Are you calling me fat?" He was a very good actor. I giggled, as he lowered his arm and continued driving home. I liked this. Just talking and joking around, I could remember the last time I had felt this free. He reached over and grabbed both my hands in both of his, rubbing them together slowly getting more and more feeling back into them.

"You know you really should have at least one hand on the steering wheel." Edward rolled his eyes and turned back to the road. In the dim light of the car his eyes looked almost golden.

We pulled up to the house, each getting out of the car and shivering as we were once gain greeted by the freezing air. I practically ran to the door, unlocking it with shivering hands and falling through the door, feeling the heat of the apartment embrace me and wrap me in its warm arms. We were home.

I walked into the kitchen listening as Edward closed and locked the door behind him, dropping the soggy towels on the floor. Normally this would annoy me, but I didn't have the energy to pick them up myself. I picked up a chopping board, knife, bread and some ham setting bout making some food. I was starving, swimming had tired me out even though half the time Edward's arms were holding me up anyway. The feeling of his muscles bulging as he held me up, his chest against my back ...

"Bella you're drooling," Edward sang with a smirk on his face. I turned away, blushing cutting up the sandwiches and handing him one. We sat at opposite ends of the kitchen table. "Tell me about your life."

My head snapped up. "My life?" I asked hoping I'd heard him wrong. He nodded in response. "Well," I gulped, "I lived in Forks, went to Forks high school, my dad was the police chief, I moved here nearly a year ago now .. "

"No Bella, that's not what I meant and you know it." He said, staring me straight in the eyes. That was the night I did something I never thought I would. I told someone. I don't just mean I told someone about how I thought I was a walking tragedy, but I told Edward everything, my whole life story that I had held to myself for so long. There was something about this man that made me want to trust him and open up and that's exactly what I did. I even told him why I had pushed him away and been so harsh for so long.

When I had finished the tears were pouring from my eyes, revealing that had felt like reopening old wounds and pouring salt in them. I sniffed trying to compose myself, wiping my eyes. Edward stood from his seat opposite me and walked to my side, wrapping me in his arms, kissing the top of my head.

"Don't worry, love," he whispered in my ear, "I'm here, I'm not going anywhere." Then he did something I would never have anticipated, he leaned in and brushed his lips softly against mine, my eyelids fluttered closed as I wrapped my arms around his neck, reaching up on my toes to get as close as possible to him. For once in my life, I felt fearless.

Edward POV

Bella would probably kill me when the kiss ended, but she hadn't pushed me away yet. I poured all my energy into hoping that she felt the same way and wouldn't push me away. There was only one thing I was absolutely positive about : I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with her.

Bella POV

We stumbled up the stairs like two drunk teenagers, falling over each others feat and the stairs, refusing to break our lips apart. We were panting for breath still refusing to break for air. We fell through the doorway, staggering to the bed and collapsing on top of it.

"Bella," Edward panted, "What about rule number 3? The roommate agreement?" I forgot about that.

"Fuck the roommate agreement!" Was my only answer.
