Several days had passed and while bruises began to lighten and fade the harsh memory and pain of losing a friend didn't. Gabe still wouldn't even speak to Toby, he tried calling, texting, even emailing! All against Felix's suggestion not to, but he couldn't just accept what had happened. Gabe was his best friend, hell they were almost brothers. He could never just let things fall apart like this, there had to be some kind of explanation. Maybe he was possessed by some kind of demon or something, hell maybe it was some horrible practical joke that got taken way too far. Gabe had done those before. That had to be it. Right?
Toby knew that wasn't true as soon as he looked up at his reflection in the bathroom mirror. The now yellowing bruises were a painful reminder. He knew Gabe had made those, the same way he had made the ones marring Felix's own face. They were proof of everything, despite his stupid brain wanting to deny it all. Feeling even worse he sighed and splashed some water on his face, Felix was waiting for him.
Loud slams and crashes sounded throughout a tiny apartment. Several holes littered the walls. Meanwhile in the bedroom a fist was making sure to add a few more to the list. Gabe yanked his hand out of broken plaster and briefly cradled his bruised and possibly broken fist.
He was furious with himself. He kept replaying and replaying the day in Toby's apartment over and over in his head. He remembered everything perfectly, the way his voice echoed when he yelled, the crack his hand made when he slapped his best friend, and the worst memory was the way those lips felt when he had pressed against them. That memory wouldn't leave, it kept snapping up clouding his mind. He knew what he'd done was wrong. He wanted to hate himself for it.
How could he do that to Toby? How could he be so selfish? The guy was just trying to be his friend, to tell him about his relationship. But no, he couldn't accept that, after all the years of thinking he had no chance, that Toby was straight, only to have all of that changed so abruptly.
It wasn't his fault he snapped, Toby hid all of this from him, from his supposed best friend? Toby had to have known about his feelings, why else would he tell him like this? Did it disgust him? Did he think this was the only way around the whole thing? And with some guy he barely knew, hell the guy is even from a different fucking continent!
The whole situation yesterday felt like a giant slap to his face. Sure he overreacted but who wouldn't? He had spent so many years loving that bumbling idiot. Maybe if he had confessed sooner he wouldn't have...
Gabe sighed and dropped back onto his bed, his heart was aching again as thoughts of the brunette rushed back to him. "Toby..."
It was another week before Gabe finally texted Toby back, the brunette was busy helping Felix finish up unpacking his things when his phone buzzed. At first the two had been laughing and joking about where to put things but as soon as Toby checked his phone his smile dropped. He spared his boyfriend a glance before making up and excuse about him needing to make an important call. He locked himself in the bathroom and leaned back against the door.
He had a horrible sick feeling in his stomach as he stared at the name lit up on his phone. He wasn't sure what to do. Part of him wanted to delete the message and go back to Felix, pretend he never got the text. But he also wanted to read it, find out if there was any chance to get his best friend back.
Toby let out a shaky sigh as he nervously checked the message. It was simple, yet nerve wracking. Gabe wanted to meet up and talk. Before he could stop himself, he found his fingers tapping away a reply. Asking where the other wanted to meet up at. He had so many questions running through his head that at first he didn't hear Felix knocking on the bathroom door. The blonde sounded worried as he talked through the door, asking if anything was wrong. Opening the door Toby felt a sting to his heart as he pulled the blonde into a hug.
"Gabe texted me. He wants to meet up and talk I-"Felix went to say something but the brunette interrupted him. "I know you don't want me to see him but I need to talk to him I-"
"He attacked you! All over you being with someone else!"The blonde almost screamed at him gently shaking the smaller mans shoulders. "What do you think he'll do when you reject him again?!"
"You're wrong,"Toby shook his head his voice was wavering. "Gabe was just upset, I'm sure he wouldn't-"
Felix pulled him back into his arms and squeezed the brunette tight against his chest, his own voice was wavering. "Jag förstår, jag förstår...Men ska du inte bli sårad. Jag älskar dig."
The sun was very close to setting as Toby anxiously sat back in a booth at a local starbucks. He had walked in and out of the store at least 5 times before finally getting the courage to just walk in and sit down. He had sent Gabe the text saying he was here just a few minutes ago but already he was back to panicking. He still had no idea what this meeting would be all about, maybe an apology and a plead to forget about all of it? Or maybe his friend wanted to split ways and end the whole things now. He wasn't sure how he felt about either of those.
"Shit..."Toby sighed and rubbed his eyes, he was practically laying across the table. He really didn't want to face Gabriel.
Approaching footsteps brought Toby's face out of his hands, he wished he hadn't though as his eyes locked onto to Gabes. An awkward silence followed before the other man sat down across from him. Toby's eyes fell to the bruises and scrapes covering abused knuckles. Half of him wanted to ask but the other half felt scared to.
Gabe looked around the cafe as he spoke. "Is that guy here with you?"
"No. You said you wanted to talk to me,"the brunette forced out a small laugh. "can't do that if I'm not the one here right?"
Gabe's sharp eyes finally met his and they both went quiet for a bit. It wasn't until Toby looked back down to his hands that the other spoke once more.
"Look...I know what I did wasn't right, and I that have absolutely no say in your relationship-"Toby snapped his eyes up and smiled a bit, Gabe wasn't gonna leave after al- "That doesn't mean I'm gonna sit around and do nothing about it though. I can't make you break up with this guy but I mean seriously Toby do you understand what your getting yourself into here? He's literally from halfway around the fucking world and the two of you only know eachother through youtube videos or emails. Guys don't just up and move from their country for some dude they just met, not unless they're after something. And-"
"Felix isn't like that-"
"Oh yeah? Why the hell was he with his ex-girlfriend then? Honestly how do you know he isn't just using you for some quick fucks? Taking a break from his usual girl to try something new?At least with me you should no that I'd never do that to you, hell at least you know me Toby. I love you, I've always loved you-"Gabe reached across and grasped Toby's hand tight in his own. "and I would never hurt you, so please just forget about this guy. He's nothing, just some stupid pervert who-"
A loud crack sounded out and a lot of the coffee shop went silent, Gabriel stared silently in shock at Toby who was standing over him breathing heavy and anger painted across his features. The stinging in his cheek momentarily kept him sitting as the brunette angrily stormed out of the establishment. He was shocked that Toby had hit him. He quickly jumped out of his seat and stormed out after him ignoring the rapid whispering from people in the shop.
Toby was still fuming as he headed toward his car door, he barely had it open before a familiar hand slammed it back closed. Next thing he knew he was being turned around and shoved against his own car. Gabe pissed off and in his face. "What the hell was that about!?"
"Fuck you!"Toby spat trying to shove the others hand off of him. "You practically beg me to come talk to you and then act like a big asshole, and then you want me to leave Felix for you? Just fuck off Gabe."
Gabriel slapped away Toby's hands and shoved him harder against the car pressing himself closer to the smaller man. "I'm acting like the asshole? I'm just trying to look out for you Toby! I fucking care a lot more about you then anyone else ever could! Can't you understand that!?"
"Some fucking way to show it, first you attack me and force yourself on me and now you're doing the same thing again! I guess my feelings don't fucking matter in this situation at all huh? Everyone is so fucking sure about how I should feel, I'm sick of it!" Toby was screaming now, struggling against the larger man. His fists were swinging and connecting at anything they could. "Get the fuck off of me you asshole! I don't fucking want you, get over yourself!"
He was far from surprised to feel a hard hand slam against the side of his head and another grab his shirt and slam him even harder against the vehicle. Gabriel was pissed off too, he didn't care though he kept on kicking and slamming his hands against the other until they toppled to the ground in a flurry of fists. A hard knee to his stomach made him see stars along with the hand yanking his hair. He somehow managed to get a good throw in and cut Gabe across the cheek giving him the upperhand long enough to throw the other off of him and to scramble to his knees. A large hand cupped him around his throat and yanked him back once more, pinning him to the ground along with the knee digging into his stomach. Tears sprung up in his eyes as he struggled to breathe.
Suddenly they were being yanked apart and he could finally hear the sirens blaring. A cop was lifting him from the ground and yelling into his ear, but his eyes locked onto Gabe's. There were tears there too as he sunk back in the officers grip. They were dragged to separate sides of the street and EMT checking each of them out. It was a couple hours before Toby finally got to go home, thankfully since it was his first time and that witnesses claimed he was the one being attacked the officers didn't go too bad on him. He did tell them that he had hit Gabe first though, said they were gonna send him his fine in the mail in a couple days. One dropped him off at home and he practically fell into Felix when he opened the door. Felix had panicked a lot, then he was yelling, after a while things just got quiet and he held him. He didn't know what to think anymore, out of all the possible outcomes he never saw that one. More than anything he just wanted to cry and scream.
Felix was cleaning up the living room when Toby reappeared from his bedroom. He had locked himself in there about an hour ago and had just cried. Felix had knocked and texted the brunette for a bit before he had given up. He understood how much it was hurting Toby to go through all of that a second time, he didn't want Toby to lose his best friend. He also knew that he needed to be alone for awhile and he gave him that. Even so, when Toby finally came out of the room he couldn't help but rush over and scoop him into his arms, his hands cupping tear stained cheeks. The brunette's eyes were red and swollen as he stared into Felix's before swiftly leaning forward and capturing the swede's lips in a kiss. When they broke Toby let out a sigh and nuzzled into the blonde's tight hug, his hot breath warm against the others neck.
"Feel any better?"Felix whispered as he rubbed small circles onto the others back.
Toby let out a dry chuckle and sighed once more. "I feel like I need a shower."
"I'm sure I can arrange for that."Felix laughed and gave Toby a tiny squeeze before pulling away and pecking him once more on the lips and heading away. "I can start dinner while you-" Toby caught his arm though.
"Do you...do you wanna join me?"His cheeks were tinted a bit red which made Felix smile as he nodded.
"Love to."
It wasn't until they'd finally both gotten undressed that Felix saw all the damage Gabriel had done to Toby earlier. A large bruise rested on the brunette's shoulder blade and another on his hip. They were much darker then the one currently settling on his cheek. The dark shades of blue and purple stood out against the rest of his lover's pale skin. He couldn't help but feel a swell of anger deep within his stomach as he eyed up all of them. He didn't let Toby catch him staring opting to just distract the man by giving him a sweet kiss before heading into the shower.
The moment Toby finally got under the hot blast of water he nearly fainted from relief. It felt amazing on his sore back, it was blissful definitely helped him to keep his mind clear. He would've completely forgotten that Felix was there if the swede hadn't squeaked in shock from the hot water.
"Fan! Det är varmt!"
Toby chuckled and moved over to give the blonde more room. "I'm guessing it's a bit too hot?"
The swede grimaced and shook his head before kissing Toby on the shoulder. "It's fine. Is it helping?"
Toby nodded and sighed once more, then blindly reached for some shampoo. Felix chuckled and grabbed it for him squirting some on his hands for good measure before scrubbing the other mans scalp. He could see Toby's cheeks warm up and the small smile it brought.
"Let me take care of things."
