The look on Jace's face would've been amusing had we not been in the situation we were in.
He looked absolutely flabbergasted, and then conflicted between his emotions. Realization, confusion, and then pure anger.
"You what?" Jace asked. "You broke up with him because he wouldn't cave to your damn deadline?"
Magnus rolled his eyes, looking annoyed. "This is why I wanted to talk to Clary and not you, dickhead."
Jace's nostrils flared, and he took menacing steps forward. "Yeah? Well now you're going to talk to me, and it better be a damn good explanation."
"Jace!" I snapped, finally intruding before a full fledged fight broke out and broke my favorite vase. "Go to my bedroom. Now."
"Clary, this is my brother-" Jace began.
"And this is your girlfriend telling you to leave. Now go." It was about time the woman got what she wanted.
Jace crossed his arms stubbornly. "I will listen on part take of Alec."
I raised my eyebrows, rising from the couch. "No, I will. Now go."
Jace rolled his eyes before walking away.
I sat back down exasperately. Magnus studied me with an amused face. And I rolled my eyes.
"I got stuck with a five year old, I swear," I muttered. "Anyways, shoot."
There was a lot of feelings involved with this little passionate story from Magnus, and because emotions suck when it comes to heartbreak, I'll give you the watered down version.
Alec was a video recorder. He often filmed many of Jace's and mine music videos etcetera. Magnus thought this would be a great way to open up to his parents, so there wouldn't be any interruptions, and Alec could have the same story without getting all defensive.
So that's what Alec did. He threw together a video in ten days, and promised he would show it to his parents last night.
He never did.
This was where Magnus got extremely annoyed.
So Magnus talked with him for two hours, but Alec said he couldn't do it. So Magnus said he didn't want their relationship to be hidden anymore, and if it was hidden from Alec's parents, what was the point of having a relationship anymore?
So they broke up.
It was a very sad moment for me whenever this came to play. Alec and Magnus were adorable, Magnus making Alec seem livelier and Alec making Magnus seem complete. I might have even thrown a remote across the room, making Jace come running out.
Magnus didn't even shed a tear the entire story, and I would've wondered if he actually cared if I didn't really know Magnus. His face remained creepily stoic, and his eyes had a little glaze over them, meaning he was staring at something intently to make sure no emotion leaked into his eyes.
I ran my hands through my hair. "I don't think you should've broken up with him."
For the first time, Magnus's face flashed with anger. "I came here for advice. I can't turn back the wheel. I am perfectly aware we shouldn't have broken up, thank you. I need to get him back, but no matter how many times I call him, he doesn't answer. I can't go over to his parents' because he hasn't told them!"
Jace came out of my bedroom, plopping himself down on the couch next to me, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Look, just because you have relationship problems doesn't mean you break up," Jace said. His eyes had lost their flame as he looked Magnus over.
It was the first time I'd truly seen Magnus without badass makeup. He looked less intense, more human. If you really looked at him, you could see a vital piece was missing from him.
Magnus glared at him. The two had never really gotten along all that well, Magnus just tolerating him because of Alec and me. "Oh you're kidding me! How many fucking breaks have you two taken? You just got back together! I was with Alec for four years, and for four damn years, he never told his parents, and I wasn't okay with it but I tolerated it! If you too aren't okay with something, you break up! And you're lecturing me?"
Jace stood up. "That's my brother. Alec would've said the same thing to Clary, because that's what family does. And no, you've never broken up with your significant other before, making you completely unexperienced."
"Jace, please," I said quietly, and he looked back at me. He began worrying his lip, golden eyes hovering over the two possibilities. He sighed, sitting back on the couch, kissing my temple lightly. I turned back to Magnus. "Jace is right," Magnus's eyes widened and his nose wrinkled in disgust. "Give me a minute. The reason Alec won't pick up the phone is because he's ashamed. He's ashamed he's not brave enough to tell his parents, he's ashamed he's gay, and he's ashamed that you decided to break up with him. You haven't been there as a support either. A relationship isn't about the task of an individual, but the two working together to make it work. You want Alec to tell his parents? You need to be there with him. And the video recording idea? Bullshit. No one wants to tell someone that way, even if it would be easier.
"And you are inexperienced. It's like having a virgin telling you how to make a guy lust. It's like a two month-year-old telling someone how to talk when they can't talk. So yeah, Jace and I break up all the time, but there's always a reason. Do you know how hard it is to keep a personal life when everything you do is broadcasted all over the internet? You two live in the background, Jace and I have cameras following our every move. It's a hell of a lot of pressure, that you don't understand. So sorry, but not sorry."
Magnus's eyes looked utterly betrayed. I bit my lip, refusing to speak despite what the kindness in me told me to do. He then stood up angrily. "I came here for advice, and you guys suck at it, so bye."
I sighed as the door slammed shut. "Damn," she muttered, "Tough crowd."
Jace rolled his eyes. "He'll get over it. Magnus can't go two weeks without Alec, much less a lifetime. In every way, shape, and form." He then wrinkled his nose. "They go at it like rabbits."
I snorted as Jace's phone rang. Alec's picture flashed on the screen, glitter all over his face from a prank Jace pulled on him.
"Hey man," Jace said, leaning into the couch a bit more, biting his lip. "You're telling them? – Tonight? Look, I don't know if that – Alec, he just came over. – Are you crying? Stop crying. That's about as manly as the color pink – Oh shut up Alec – Look, Magnus is pissed at you, and Clary and I are pissed at Magnus, and I suppose in a way you probably are too. – Right. They deserve to know. – You want us there? – All right, we'll be there. Bye."
I looked at him with curiosity, and he began to smile slowly before looking down at me. "Best we get ready. Dinner's in an hour."
I hopped up, kissing Jace quickly before sauntering into our bedroom.
All dinners at the Lightwoods were fancy, no matter if it were corndogs from Sonic or roasted duck (That would never happen due to Jace, but it's fancy right?)
The Lightwoods were also very traditional, daytime clothes and evening clothes. They weren't off the chain fancy, but Maryse still loved to do it.
So naturally, I put on a fitted, satin ruffled yellow dress, just to go over to my boyfriend's mother's house for a dish like spaghetti.
I pinned my hair up with dozens of pins in hidden places, as Jace loved to take my hair down. Little tendrils framed my face, but I shrugged it off.
Fifteen minutes before we had to go, Jace entered the room. He put on a pair of slacks and a blue button down, complaining about his mother's tendencies to do ridiculous things.
Isabelle opened the door, a red dress on with a black belt at the waist. She looked stressed, and it was understandable.
Like I said, Jace's family was very traditional. This would be a bad thing in Alec's case, because of the old fashioned hatred of gays.
"Come on in. Alec's sweat is going all the way down his sides," she said. "Poor boy."
We entered, heading to the large dining room area, fit for twenty.
Maryse was setting down plates and multiple dishes, a blue dress already on. She smiled at Jace and me, rushing over to hug us both.
I almost gagged at the scent of hairspray wafting up into my nose.
She pulled back, holding me at the elbows. "Clarissa, how are you dear? I heard about the pregnancy. Is Jace treating you well?"
Jace smirked and I felt the urge to smack it off his face. "Yes, he's treating me just fine," I said with a smile. "And it's Clary, you know that Mrs. Lightwood."
Maryse smiled in return. "I'll call you Clary as soon as you call me Maryse."
Alec entered then, biting his lip. He looked at Jace and relaxed for a second before tensing up again at the sight of his mother.
"Hey Jace," Alec said with a tight smile.
We all then sat, and Robert entered a moment later, sitting as well.
We waited for Robert to take the first bite before all beginning on the salad.
Maryse tried to keep a conversation going, but didn't get much response. Her kids weren't close to her, which was a sad thing to say. I hated it when parents didn't get along with their children as much as my mother and Luke did with me.
After the entree of lasagna, (not spaghetti, but close enough, right?) Alec cleared his throat. Through the awkward silence, it was extremely loud. All eyes flitted to his, and Isabelle looked as if she were about to cry.
"So," Alec said. "I have a small announcement." Jace smiled at him, trying to be reassuring. "I'm – I'm gay."
Robert laughed loudly, and I felt my stomach clench. Isabelle's lip began quivering, and Jace's smile fell from his lips. Alec went paler, and he bit his lip. Maryse put a hand on Robert's shoulder, and sighed.
It was quiet for five seconds as Robert examined all of our faces. He then roared, and Alec ducked as a plate was thrown over his head and shattered into the wall behind him. I let out a shocked gasp and Jace quickly stood up.
Robert stomped angrily over to Alec and raised a fist before Jace tackled him.
"Calm down," he snarled. "Now. You want to know why the hell no one ever tells you anything? You react like this! Leave the room. Now."
Robert snarled before stomping away. Maryse sighed, running her hands through her graying hair.
She smiled at Alec who tensed. "Thank you for opening up Alec. Your father will come around eventually, but for tonight, I think it would be best if you stayed at Jace's."
Her eyes watered pitifully. Isabelle already had tears streaming down her face.
Maryse ran from the room quickly.
Alec groaned, and Isablle wrapped her arms tight around him. "Dad's an asshole. We knew that since he cheated."
"C'mon Alec," Jace said, wrapping a comforting arm around his brother. "The sooner we get out of here the better."
Alec nodded.
I sniffled as I laid down next to Jace. He wrapped an arm around me and pulled me close. "That was awful." I sniffed.
Jace pulled a stray strand of hair away from my eyes, brushing his hand across my cheek comfortingly. "We'll be here for Alec, even if Robert won't."
"Yeah," I replied. "Always there for Alec."
So uh….I surrender? Flash the white flags? Put down the guns please.
Uh, so I completely forgot about this story. Oops.
Yeah, I was checking the stats on all my stories, and I was like Oh my God! I haven't updated my most liked story since July!
And then I burst out with laughter, because let's face it, that's pretty funny.
Maybe annoying for you, but that's okay.
Nobody's perfect! You live and you learn it! Again and again until you get it right! Nobody's perfect!
Wise words from our dear Miley Cyrus.
So, yeah, forgive me. At least I didn't drop the story!
I'll update soon. I promise.
