Chapter 10: Sibling Bravery

One by one, the young Seville chipmunks woke up with a groan from a dreamless sleep. The moment they opened their eyes, they instantly found themselves in a dark damp room. An eerie feeling crept all around them.

"W-where are we?" Tom shivered, from both the cold air and creepy feeling from their surroundings.

"I don't know, but I would really like to be back home now." Vincent admitted.

"Me too," Mary added in a squeaky voice.

Suddenly a voice spoke out in the dark room, "Greetings young ones! Welcome to Alcatraz...!"

The chipmunks scanned the room in all angles, hoping to find the source of the voice, but saw no one.

"W-w-where is that voice coming from?" Vincent demanded.

"No one has ever escaped from this Island...and survived..." The voice taunted the three kids. "So don't even try to leave..."

"Alcatraz...?" Tom began to reflect on their situation. "That explains the creepy feeling I'm getting.

"Well, that's just great." Vincent huffed. "Where is dad when you need him?"

"I'm sure he'll be here. Somehow, someway he'll find us. I'm sure of it." Mary said in an optimistic tone.

"How right you are...Mary..." The voice cooed.

The kids jerked their heads upward in shock.

"He knows our names? Who the hell is this guy?" Vincent cried out.

"Without realizing it, the three of you are a part of something huge..." again the voice explained.

Tom looked around the room then noticed a small box. He narrowed his eyes into a squint in order to get a clear focus in the dark room. It didn't take long for him to realize he was looking at a speaker.

"Up there," Tom cried and pointing his finger towards the object. "I think that's where the voice is coming from.

"W-w-what do you want from us?" Vince called out to the mysterious voice in the box. He attempted the bravest face he could muster.

"To be blunt, it isn't really you that we want, it is your father! He has something that belongs to us, and we want it back. You three are nothing more than just pawns..."

The siblings glanced at each other with their mouths hung open in shock.

"Daddy?" Mary whimpered. All of this reminded her of the horrible dreams she would have every so often.

"Why do want our dad has something of yours?" Vince asked.

"Your father has been a naughty boy. He disobeyed us, and tried to hurt us."

"What are you talking about? Our dad wouldn't hurt anyone!" Vincent spat in defense. Then he paused for a second then turned to his siblings. "Would he?"

"No!" Both Mary and Tom barked at once.

"You may not realize it, but you are indeed intertwined in our plans," the voice continued. "A means to take back and teach our disobedient students, and start a whole new generation of soldiers..."

"You know, I'm getting real tired of hearing this jackass." Tom griped.

"I'm with you on that one, bro." Vincent nodded. He reached into his pants pocket and pulled out the Swiss army knife his father gave him and extended the knife.

"Bye-bye," he muttered just before he threw the knife at the speaker.

"Soon, the world will learn to respect our au..." almost instantly the voice was cut off in mid-sentence. The Swiss Army knife sliced through the front and chopped a few of the wires inside. A loud static sound echoed in the room, letting the children know that the speaker has been terminated.

"Nice toss," Mary cheered.

"Thanks, piece of cake," the eldest brother boasted.

"I can't believe mom ever thought that was an inappropriate gift for you." Mary giggled.

"I know, right?" Vincent agreed.

Tom pondered for a moment then continued to scan the room. "You know, if that guy was able to talk to us, there's a good chance he can see and hear us too."

"Great! Where?" Vincent growled.

"I don't know," the younger brother replied.

"I think we should retrieve my knife before we look for the camera." Vincent suggested.

"Ok," Tom nodded.

As the boys walked over to the wall, and talked over a plan to grab the embedded knife from the speaker, something caught the corner of Mary's eye. The image glowed and when Mary saw it, she smiled. Slowly she began to step away from her brothers and toward the spirit.

"Mary! Where are you going?" Tom asked as he leapt off his brother's shoulders with the knife in his hand.

"Nowhere Tom... She's here." Mary whispered to her brothers.

"She...? She who...?" Vincent raised an eyebrow.

"The Angel..."

"Oh, not this again..." Tom muttered, rolling his eyes in irritation.

"Mary, we don't have time for your imaginary friend." Vince groaned.

"She's not imaginary, she's real." Mary argued as she reaches for the spirit. "And she is here to help us."

"Mary, please... " Vincent begged. "We have to make a plan to get out of this cell. Not only that, you are starting to scare us with this talk about angels."

Suddenly, Mary let out a loud gasp. She instantly began taking a few steps back. It looked like something is attempting to grab her. Then Mary stopped. She closed her eyes and stood steadily in her place.

"Mary? Are you ok?" Tom asked.

Both brothers charged towards their sister's side.

"Mary, answer us. What's going on?" Vincent pleaded.

Slowly, Mary opened her eyes and they appeared darker and extremely focused.

Both Tom and Vincent stood petrified for a moment as they watched this change take place in their sister's eyes. It began to get more peculiar when four glowing balls of light immerged from the walls and floated down front of Mary.

"Good job." She says to them. "Now, you two go and deliver positive reassurance to our friend. I'm sure by now she could use some." Mary orders two of the glowing orbs. "...And you two stay and take care of the rest of the security systems. We must complete this mission." Mary directed the other two. Two of the spirit lights flew off in one direction and the other two flew off in the other.

"What just happened?" Vincent asked dumbfounded by what he has just witnessed.

"Don't know but that was pretty cool." Tom responded in awe. Then both boys looked over to their sister. She still had a possessed look in her eyes as she turned to face them.

"M-M-M-Mary?" Tom stuttered nervously.

Mary gives them a nurturing smiles them and calmly replied, "Yes...and no."
