CH 10
AN: Sorry this took so long and is so short I've been pretty uninspired lately.
Disclaimer: I Don't own either Rune Factory or Harry Potter.
Harry had forgotten just how much he missed hot showers until that morning. Already having gotten used to the routine of waking up early he beat both his friends to the upstairs bathroom. It was small room with enough space for a shower but no tub. There was also small sink and toilet. The only other thing in the room was a round glass orb hanging from the ceiling Hermione charmed to give off light.
Breakfast that morning consisted of Hash browns and scrambled eggs along with toast with jam. There was also a pot of Earl Grey for Harry and Hermione and a smaller pot of a Dark Roast Coffee for Ron. He had taken to drinking the stuff after the war and claimed it was the only thing to wake him up properly any more.
After finishing his meal he left the rest of the food sitting under a warming charm and set out to finish his chores for the day.
He watered the field first before making his way to the barn. Kraus had recently finished helping him renovate so now he had three rooms instead of just the one. The Cluckies were in a room by themselves and had gained a few more friends after Harry's most recent trip to the green Ruins. The Buffamoos and Woolies were in the middle room together and the Hornets and bees were in the last along with specially built boxes designed for the easy removal of Honey products.
When all of the animal products were collected and stored inside the shipping bin Harry went through his fields checking on the crops. The strawberries, cabbages and Turnips were all ripe though the potatoes were not. The turnips were all shipped as were most of the strawberries though the Cabbages he ended up keeping. Most went into the seed maker in order to reseed the fields and the rest went inside the fridge.
After reseeding the ground Harry made his way back inside the house just in time to witness Ron and Hermione finish cleaning up breakfast.
When everything was washed and put away Harry made himself a second cup of tea while Hermione began sorting through the books.
The Diviners guide to the future was thrown across the room in disgust while Harry laughed. Hermione didn't seem to find it nearly as amusing.
"It's not funny Harry" She told him as she began sorting through the books once more. "And why are there multiple copies of some of these books?"
"Because those are the ones I want to read and I don't want to try and fight you for them." He told her "And yes actually, that was funny. I plan on giving that book to Melody anyways. It should be interesting enough to keep her happy without running the risk of blowing her up."
"And the four copies of Wandlore for Beginners?"
"Kanno and Cinnamon both wanted to know how wands worked. This way everyone's got a copy."
"I'm sure we could share a book Harry." She scoffed
"No. You can't Hermione, and I refuse to risk you hexing me while these rune spirits are playing havoc with our powers. I doubt I'd survive it." He stated
"You're exaggerating Harry." She sighed
"Does Lee Jordan and a copy of Arithmancy for use in Ancient Runes ring any bells? He was in the hospital wing for two days because he tried to look at the cover while you were reading it." He reminded her "The twins told all the first years he was missing because you cut him up for potions ingredients and replaced him with a golem. They believed them."
His smartest friend blushed slightly and looked away. "Really Harry that was ages ago, I'm sure I wouldn't do it again."
"You're right." He said "I'm sure you'd do worse."
"Oh just help me put these on the shelf you prat." She threw a copy of Tea Reading for Fun and Profit at his head.
Deciding against irritating her further Harry complied and the two finished going through the books he brought back from their world.
Some were set aside to give to Kanno or Cinnamon. These were the introductory guides to basic fields of magic they could study without supervision. Like their first and second year textbooks. Some of the more harmless and useless books were to be given to Melody. These included the non-biting care of magical creatures' texts and all of the divination guides. Some were put on the house's book shelf, these were the books they agreed would probably be most useful. When they ran out of room the rest of went into storage.
They brought back a lot of books.
When the book sorting was finished for the day Hermione made her way to the clock tower with Kanno's selection while Ron and Harry headed to the Green Ruins.
Harry had a plan, well Ron had a plan but Harry supported it completely. The Green ruins had a strange staircase with heavy doors their magic couldn't seem to unlock which was a bit strange considering how strong it was in this world. This staircase seemed to lead all the way down to the bottom of the ruins, and at the bottom of these ruin was a strange sense of power neither male could identify. The plan was to make it down there the long way unlocking the staircase from the outside as they went. This way they wouldn't have to start over again every time they went home.
Neither one was willing to quit until they succeeded in this endeavor. To help accomplish their goals they brought along the Camping tent Hermione purchased in Diagon alley and had left a note on the table letting her know they would be back in a day, two tops with rare and unfamiliar ingredients so she shouldn't get mad at them. There was also a list describing in detail how they were not excluding her because she was a girl but because she would want to wait until after everything was sorted in the ministry. They may have also mentioned that Kingsley was sending over the paperwork they needed and Harry had already named Hermione CEO of their new company so she got to do it all. Avoiding the workload had absolutely nothing to do with their flight from the house, really it didn't.
The first day in the ruins saw both boys getting paralyzed at least once and Ron being adopted by a very strange Ant type monster about the size of a small dog. Who knew those bugs liked sandwiches?
They had managed to collect quite a few bamboo sprouts and every colored grass and magical herb they came across.
Ron had started shooting blasting curses at the strange Ores growing out of the floors and collected quite a bit of iron and a few pieces of copper. Apparently he liked the idea of forging magical weapons, an art which was not restricted solely to the Goblin Nation by a ridiculous treaty in this world.
They had made it to the 3rd floor around Midnight where they located the express staircase and quickly unlocked the door in order to go inside. They set up their Tent in the relative safety of the passage and quickly fell asleep.
They woke up late the next morning and used the tents facilities to shower and change before packing everything back up and making their way into the monster infested room just outside the passage door.
A few hours and a large amount of collected ingredients later Harry and Ron found themselves On the fourth and final floor of the Green Ruins just outside a large door emanating the magic they had been feeling the entire time they were in the ruins.
They had expected a number of things from a fire breathing dragon to a library of hidden knowledge, but possibly the only thing they didn't consider was the flying Chicken they found inside. Though judging from its apparently feline hind end it could have been crossbred from a very large griffin. A very, very large Griffin.
While fighting the thing was annoying Harry didn't mind the big bird so much as he absolutely hated its offspring with the exploding eggs.
When the fight was finally over Ron began searching through the bird's nest while Harry began plucking feathers for Hermione. Twenty minutes of somewhat hard work later and Harry Vanished the Body of the monster while Ron started putting everything they've collected into Harry's expanded backpack. Along with the feathers and Giants Cockscomb Ron found a number of very shiny objects hidden in the beast's nest. These objects included a large emerald, one silver hairpin, three dented pans once used for cooking and a handful of coins in the local currency. Everything save the pans went into the bag as Harry and Ron made their way back home hoping the paperwork was done and Hermione's anger could be appeased by gifts of potions ingredients.
