"You what?!"
"Your Team was wondering about your cousin and wanted to meet her so I told them where you were currently staying" Mira apologized "I'm sorry Lucy" laughing nervously I waved off her apology
"It's fine, but actually Michelle is leaving tonight to go back home" Biting my tongue I lied to the white haired barmaid
"Well they should be there in about three hours" She stated as she eyed the time on her side
"Alright, thanks for the heads up Mira, I'll see you when I get back" Sighing i hung up after she said her goodbyes.
"H-how's Natsu?" With a sigh I knew he wouldn't even be with a mile of me since the whole marking incident
"Knocked out on a train that's heading your way" Mira's smile was just a half one and it seemed like it bothered her as much as it bothered me.
"Alright, thanks Mira"
Pivoting on my foot I made my way up to my room, walking in after unlocking the door I glanced at Midnight. There he was sleeping as usual.
"Right where I left you" Muttering underneath my breathe, I set my communication lacrime down and started packing my things and Midnights since I was going to check us out early due to the interference.
"Whatcha doin, you spoiled brat?" Glancing up at Midnight I saw that he was sitting up yawning
Awe. Cute.
Ugh what was I thinking...? He's anything but cute.
"We need to leave" I shook my head to shake away the thoughts that were threatening to renter my mind
"Why?" Getting up from the bed, he staggered over to me and eyed me warily
"Because something came up so now we have to go, now get your bag and meet me in the lobby" Snapping I was trying to think of what to do, throwing the rest of my things in my bag
"Someone has a stick up their ass" He mumbled as he grabbed his cloak and his bag and left me in silence
"Virgo" In a bright golden yellow light she appeared bowing before standing straight and looked at me with her usual poker face
"What can I do for you today Princess?"
"We're in a big hurry Virgo, please take our things and store them and may you please cover our tracks? My team is on their way and I can't have Natsu sniffing Midnight and getting angry"
"Yes Princess, is there anything else I can do to help?"
"No, but thank you very much Virgo," Smiling at the blunt spirit "I have to hurry now, they should be here within the hour"
Grabbing my keys and my whip, I left the room grabbing the hotel key as well and hurried down to the lobby where Midnight would be waiting.
"Ready?"
"Not really"
"I should have rented a carriage" I whined in a weak mumble as we walked along a forest path to the next town. We had been walking for some time now and my legs were killing me.
"Why didn't you?" Midnight asked after almost a complete hour of silence
"I wasn't planning on leaving town" Grumbling I continued trekking behind the sociopath, every step I took it felt as if pins and needles were being shoved into my foot.
Stopping in the middle of the path I took off my black leather boots and continued walking with them safely in my hands. Closing my eyes, I enjoyed the feeling of relief in my feet as they were free from their painful prison.
Summoning Plue silently, I watched as he appeared in a bright golden light and was shaking as he danced like usual. Stopping in my tracks, I bent down and scooped him into my arms.
"What is that...thing...?" Turning my attention towards the wannabe vampire I saw he had stopped at stared at Plue with caution
"Plue is not a thing" With a glare I continued walking ahead of him with Plue still shaking
"Sorry princess didn't mean to ruffle your feathers" Scoffing he started walking beside me, glancing at him I noticed how he was already watching me from the corner of his eye.
"Shut up" I grumbled as I looked away from him
-(4 hours later)-
After we made it to the next town, and checked into another hotel I had booked ahead of time. After we took turns showering, we sat at the table and ate a early dinner.
As I looked up and saw Midnight was trying to use his chopsticks to pick up his sticky white rice. Tilting my head I watched as the dark mage struggled to use chopsticks. It was cute...
Ugh! Stu-
"Whatcha looking at Barbie?" His words shook me out of my stupor
"Huh?" Rolling his eyes, he shook his head with a smirk in his stupid face
"I said whatcha looking at Barbie" He repeated slowly as if I was stupid
"A vampire struggling with chopsticks obviously" Leaning back in my chair I smirked at him and watched as he glared at me
"Shut the hell up" Midnight shrunk in his seat as if I had just scolded him for doing something wrong
I'm just going to let the bloodsucker sit there and sulk. I don't care. He didn't mind hitting my feelings earlier this morning.
Yet as I tried to talk myself into not helping him, I found myself getting up from my seat and moving over to his side to help him. As my hand touched his, I felt the hairs on my arm stand on edge.
Clearing my throat, I tried to ignore the feeling of his body warmth that was beginning to sink into my clothes from being so close to him. Jerking my hand back from his, I suddenly found myself excusing myself before taking refuge in the small bathroom.
After locking the door I leaned my head back on the door, reaching my hand up to the mating mark it felt smooth and warm. Huh. Moving over to the mirror, I saw as it glowed faintly.
Just 6 months.
But do I really just want it to be six months? What if I wanted it on for longer then that...? Ugh what am I thinking. Focus Lucy, you have a mission to get rid of a monster that's been stealing people's crops and preserves.
Just get ready for bed early and I'll have enough sleep to function properly and not have such ridiculous thoughts about a future with that thing.
But it wouldn't hurt to entertain the idea a little...right? I wish I could talk to Erza about this. Lying to people doesn't make me feel good, I mean he's a criminal and I'll be in huge trouble for being with him.
I need a bath. Yes I need a bath to help me clear my thoughts. I wish Ma was here and maybe she could help me and guide me to what I'm supposed to do.
'Mama, please give me some sort of sign to tell me what I'm supposed to do. Something. Anything. Mama, I've never been this confused since...well since you died'
Stepping out of the bathroom, it was once again dark. I quietly made my way over to the bed, it was unoccupied. That's weird...then where's Midnight then? Turning I scanned the room and saw he was asleep on the couch. He looked really uncomfortable sleeping there.
Is this your sign Mama?
Walking over to the nightmare mage, I crouched next to him and shook him a bit. He slowly woke up and watched me with tired eyes, as he tried to stifle a yawn.
I can't just try to be nice to him, if I do then he'll get suspicious and neither of us will get sleep because of it. So I guess damsel in distress will do.
"Hey I can't sleep without somebody in uh bed with me, can you um please uh..." Trailing off I felt awkward and very embarrassed all of a sudden
"Sleep with you Blondie?" He smirked as he eyed me
"Ugh forget it you ass" Snapping I stood from my crouching position and as I was about to leave something warm tugged on my wrist
"I was kidding Blondie" Sitting up I saw he was wearing a plain black t-shirt with plaid pants "I'll chase the nightmares away, I promise" There was that genuine smile again.
The one I had seen back at the cave and then the same one back at dinner at home.
"T-thank you" Taking my hand he led me to the bed, after settling in bed. We faced each other, and just watched each other. "M-midnight?" I found myself whispering his name in a quiet mumble
"Yes Lucy?" He actually said my name again
"I never thanked you for the other night...the nightmares I mean"
"Don't think about it"
"It meant a lot, thank you" Moving a tad closer I kissed him on his cheek before giving him a smile and turning away "Goodnight Midnight"
"I-uh goodnight...Lucy"
Maybe...just maybe I can get passed those walls of his and meet the real Midnight.
