Chapter 11
Jacob POV
2 weeks later
I was pacing back and forth in front of the meeting house at 9am on a Monday morning, I was completely convinced that I'd lost it.
"Could you please sit down Jacob, your making me dizzy." Leah growled, she was sitting on the steps in front of the building watching me panic.
"Sorry babe." I muttered placing a kiss to her temple
She had become a bit more open to me since the night she stayed for dinner. She would let me hold her and kiss her when I wanted for the most part which was good. My wolf was crazy about wolf Leah, he had completely forgotten about Renesmee's existence, and I was more than willing to admit that I really liked her as well. She calmed me, something about her made me ok with accepting this part of myself, the Alpha, the future chief, the leader. I loved the side of me that Leah seemed to pull out. I really was starting to think it was my best side.
"You know that they're going to love this right?" She asked with a laugh
"Or they could say it's a stupid waste of time."
"They could, but that's not going to happen, they will be so glad that you're taking an interest."
"Yeah I guess you're right, they better get here soon though, because I have to go and get Rachel from her doctor's appointment."
"Oh yeah, why isn't Paul getting her?"
"Because, he has to work out at a job site in Port Angeles, so he took the car and dropped Rachel off in Forks this morning and her appointment isn't over until 10 so I have to go get her." I explained
She nodded, but didn't say anything as Old Quil pulled up to the meeting house with my mom and Billy in the car behind him.
"Alright kids what's this all about?" Billy asked as Leah and Sue helped get him settled into the chair
"Jake has a brilliant idea that's goig to make everyone's life easier." Leah said happily
"Oh, well why don't we go inside and talk about this idea of yours Jake." Said Old Quil
We all walked into the meeting room and took a seat around the table. Sue rolled my dad up to the head of the table and then took her own seat next to Old Quil, so Leah and I sat across from them.
"So what's on your mind son?" asked my dad
"Well I saw how many people came by here to make complaints and to talk to you folks the other day when I was here, and I felt like it made it a little hard for y'all to get any work done." I started
"It is our job to serve the people Jake, how can we do that if we don't listen to them?" he asked
"Well that's just it, I was thinking that maybe it would be easier to help them if we had a specific meeting every month or even more frequently, for them to come and speak to the chief and the council so that they can get their problems heard and then you guys can spend your work days trying to solve the problems, instead of just listening to them." I explained
Old Quil and my father seemed to maul it over in their heads, but Sue was beaming at me.
"You know, that really is just brilliant Jake." She laughed, "think about how simple it would make things, plus most of the people come here to complain about the same thing that the person before them just talked about, it seems like it would be a whole lot simpler for us to just have them all get it out in one crack."
"That what we were saying, Leah even had this idea to post the monthly budget at these meetings and have copies of the meeting notes available at the meeting house so that people can read them." I smiled
"Son, I think this is a very good idea, we will talk it over and see if we can't implement it. Thank you very much." My dad smiled
"Yes boy, it is good to see that you have taken an interest into the workings of the council." Said Old Quil
I felt Leah's hand fall onto my knee and give it a squeeze. I tried not to smile too big.
"You two came up with this together?" Old Quil asked
"No, not really, it was Jake's idea, I just jumped on the bandwagon and added things like the meeting minutes being provided just because." Leah chimed
"You are a good team, I can see a lot of good things coming from your union. Jake have you picked a Best Man yet?" he asked
"Uh yeah, I asked Embry to be my best man, I was going to ask Seth, but Leah wants him to be the one to give her away."
"And you Leah? Who is your Maid of Honor?"
"Oh Rachel is, she is my best friend and now we're gonna be sisters so I wanted her to do it." Leah mumbled
"That's lovely, and what about your imprint Jake, will you be inviting her and your family to the service?" Old Quil prodded
"Uhmmmm, no, I have been fighting against the bond and making progress, I don't think it's a good idea to see her, or her family to be honest." I stammered
"That's all just as well."
"Do you kids have anything else you think we need to talk about?" My dad asked
"No that's about it" I replied
"Well then why don't you guys get out of here and let us try and get some work done." He smiled
Leah and I rose and made our way to the three elders to say good bye before strolling hand in hand out into the sun. It was rare for there to be a sunny day in La Push, so we tried to cherish them as much as possible.
"You want to go down to the beach?" I asked Leah
"No, I just want to go lay in the grass in my back yard! Gosh it's so odd to see the sky so blue." She smiled, closing her eyes and turning her face to the sun.
"You want me to run by mine and grab us some lunch and then we can have a picnic?" I asked
"Yeah that sounds amazing!" she cheered
I smiled my own goofy smile, Leah was amazing, I was beginning to think I was falling in love with her.
