It's now five in the morning, and Reba hasn't slept a wink. All she can do is worry about Kyra leaving; does she really know what she's doing? Kyra has always been independent, but can she take care of herself? Another thing on Reba's mind is that Brian is leaving after being there for her all week. Reba has gotten use to him being there by her side and taking care of her, she hasn't felt that sense of security since she divorced Brock. Reba looks over to the alarm clock at the bright red numbers, and she can't believe how slow the night has gone by. Giving up the fight to sleep, she slowly sits up in her bed and takes a sip of the warm milk she made a couple of hours earlier. After a couple of sips, she walks clumsily into the hallway and walks over to Van and Cheyenne's old room where Brian has slept for the past week. Reba then sits down onto the bed gently and shakes Brian lightly, "Brian?"
Brian responds by giving an agitated moan and rolls over on his side.
Reba shakes him again, this time with a little more force, "Brian?"
Brian slowly opens his eyes to the sight of Reba staring patiently at him. "What is it?"
"I need somebody to talk to."
Brian looks over to the clock hanging on the wall, and the time surprises him. "Shouldn't you be sleeping?"
Reba sighs, "I haven't been able to sleep. I've been too worried."
Brian tiredly sits up and puts his hand on her shoulder. He could tell how worried she was just by feeling the tension in her muscles. "What's wrong?"
Reba looks up into his eyes, "I just hope Kyra is making the right decision. It was hard enough losing her when she moved in with Brock and Barbara Jean, and now I'll be losing her again." Reba turns around and buries her head in his shoulder.
Brian pats her back softly, "It'll be okay. You've taught your baby bird to fly, now it's time for her to show the other birds a thing or two," Brian speaks metaphorically.
Reba looks up at him and wipes a tear away, "But is she mature enough to take that leap of faith?"
Brian pulls her back into a hug, "You've done your job Reba, now it's time to let go. She'll be back, it's not like she'll be gone forever."
"I know, but it will sure feel like it."
After a while, Reba falls to sleep in his arms. Being careful not to wake her up, Brian lifts her up and carries her back to her bedroom. After laying her down, Brian gently kisses her cheek and walks away.
"Good morning," Reba says groggily as she enters the kitchen and walks up to Brian. "What are you doing?"
"I made breakfast." Brian announces as he butters his toast. "I made extra in case if you were hungry."
"Where are the kids?" Reba asks confused.
"Jake is off to school, and Kyra is upstairs packing."
"I better go up and help her; I promised that I would yesterday."
"Not until you eat." Brian insists. "What do you want?"
Reba sits down at the table, "Eggs and toast will be fine."
Brian quickly throws together a plate of scrambled eggs and toast and sets it down in front of Reba. "Here you go."
"Thanks," Reba says halfheartedly.
Brian hears the sad tone in her voice, and looks at her with a worried expression on his face. Reba glances over at him and sees him staring at her, but turns her head to focus on the food she didn't really have an appetite for. After a few minutes of silence, Brian breaks the silence. "If you're this sad about it, why don't you tell Kyra your concerns?"
Reba gives him a sad look, then gets up and walks to wear Brian is sitting and kisses his head, "Thank you darling." Reba puts her plate in the sink, then walks upstairs to speak with Kyra. Reba knocks on her bedroom door, "Kyra?"
"Yeah?"
Reba opens the door and walks inside, "Can I talk to you."
Kyra stands up from crouching in her closet and sits on her bed, "What's up?"
Reba sits down next to her, "When did you start thinking about moving out?"
"I don't know, probably a month or two ago."
"When Brian and I started dating? Are you moving because of us dating? I know it's been weird with him around but…"
"No, I'm not moving because of that."
"Then why Kyra?"
"I just need a breather."
"From what?"
Kyra looks at her hesitantly, "From everything."
Reba looks at her teary-eyed and gives her a hug, "Okay, I understand."
Kyra stands up from the bed, "Do you still want to help me pack?"
Reba looks at the almost empty room, "Honey, I think you've already packed just about everything there is to pack."
Kyra walks toward her empty closet, "I guess you're right, I didn't realize how long I've been packing."
Reba walks toward the door, "I'll just let you finish."
"Thanks mom."
After talking to Kyra, the hours seem to go by fast. Kyra quickly gets done with packing and gets ready to leave. All of this seems rushed to Reba, why so fast? Reba just decides to play along and tries not to cry.
"Goodbye mom." Kyra says as she pulls Reba into a hug.
"Goodbye Kyra," Reba mutters.
Kyra gets into her car, turns on the engine and drives away. After the car turns the corner, Reba can hardly hold her tears back.
Brian senses how she's feeling and puts his arms around her waist. "It will be okay." He whispers in her ear.
Reba turns around and looks at him through her glossed over eyes, "Are you sure?"
Brian looks at her sympathetically and pecks her cheek. "I'm sure."
