Chapter 9: Let Me Go
Blaine was on cloud 9, literally. Who knew having to find out that you are in love with a boy who possibly loves you back and is the most gorgeous boy Blaine has ever laid eyes on, is such an amazing feeling.
He thought that he wouldn't get to experience happiness after what happened with him, but now he finally knows where he belongs. He wants to fix himself and be better for Kurt. Sometimes, he would want to just close his eyes and crawl into Kurts' arms and just rest is head on his chest to get comfort and forget the world. Then some days he'd want to just scream and get his anger out, but still... Kurt was always by his side. Blaine never let Kurt feel unwanted, and made sure to protect Kurt no matter what and keep him happy.
A week before winter holidays, Blaine found Kurt in the auditorium sitting by himself on the stage during lunch hour. Blaine made his way towards his boyfriend, and he sat down next to Kurt.
"Hey, how did you get in here?"
"Being a skank taught me how to break into things, and it's not a talent I'm proud of but it comes in handy." Kurt said, shrugging his shoulders.
Blaine stared at Kurt with an intense gaze, and he knew there was something off about Kurt, and he couldn't control his anxiety. He didn't know what was bothering the boy that he loves, so he took Kurt's hand in his and asked, "What's wrong?"
Kurt let out a heavy sigh and said gesturing towards the stage, "I miss this Blaine, I miss performing and… I just want to get back on my feet and join glee club, knowing it's our last year and I want this to be magical. I want to spend time with you as much as I can, and I want to get back on stage, but I'm afraid I may have loss my talent."
Blaine frowned, taking Kurt in his arms, as he whispered in his ear, "Babe, no one loses their talent, I heard you sing once, remember? Your voice is captivating; that and your mesmerzing eyes were the first thing that made me fall for you."
"But what if I'm not good enough?" Kurt asked.
"You won't know if you don't try."
Kurt shook his head into Blaine's' chest and said, "I'm scared. I want to join glee so I can go to Nationals with you guys, and I want to spend every minute of every day with you."
"Kurt I will support your decisions but please don't do this for me." Blaine told him, pulling away from Kurt to look him in the eyes. Kurt nodded and leaned his forehead against Blaines'.
"I want to, Blaine." Kurt stated sincerely, and Blaine nodded understanding Kurt's reasons.
"If you're scared, then why don't we do this… you would have to sing with the glee club again, but you'll have to audition, so why don't I sing with you?"
"You'd do that?" Kurt asked incredulously.
Blaine smiled, kissing Kurt's forehead and said, "I'd do anything for you, just name it babe and it's all yours."
Kurt smiled bashfully and ducked his head as he said, "Why do you always say stuff like that? You always know what to say."
"Like what?" Blaine chuckled.
"Like promising me things..." Kurt said with a genuine smile.
Blaine stroked Kurt's cheek with his hand and said as his eyes locked with Kurt's, "I say those because I mean every single word, because I love you." Blaine brought a hand to Kurt's face, bringing their lips together, and Kurt smiled into the kiss. Kurt whispered, "I love you too," before he went back to kissing Blaine until the bell rang.
Kurt was biting his lip nervously, his fingers laced with Blaine's and leaning against Blaine's side for support, and Blaine smiled at Kurt and said "If you don't want to-"
"I want to, I need to, Blaine..." Kurt said immediately.
"Then stop biting on your lip, sweet heart, and relax." Blaine said wrapping his arm around
Kurt's waist kissing his lips before he let go and he walked them towards the choir room. Kurt was standing behind Blaine when they walked inside, and when everyone saw a timid Kurt standing behind Blaine, they all stopped talking and turned to look at Kurt and Blaine with their hands laced together.
"Hey guys, um Kurt has something to say..." Blaine said, and stepped aside from Kurt, who held Blaine's hand tightly taking a deep breath before he spoke.
"H-Hi, um, I was hoping I-If I could come back to glee club… so, I asked B-Blaine if he would want to sing with me but I want to s-sing in front of the entire school in the next assembly… if it's okay with you guys, can I come back?" Kurt asked nervously in front of the others.
"Hell Yes! Pay up, Santana!" Puck exclaimed, and Santana sighed, handing over a 10 dollar bill. No one bothered asking about what Puck was talking about and turned their attention back to Kurt.
"Come here, white boy!" Mercedes said, opening her arms for Kurt, and he let out a sob and went into his friends waiting embrace, crying when they all huddled around him. They gave him a group hug, and he felt like he was finally home.
Blaine stood back with a heavy heart, a graceful smile forming his lips; he was happy for Kurt, but afraid that if Kurt went back to being the way he was before, would he still want someone as broken and pathetic like him? Sure he had everything to offer Kurt, but he wasn't sure if he could offer Kurt the happiness he deserved when he himself didn't have it.
Blaine took a deep breath and turned on his heels walking out of the class, knowing that Kurt was where he belonged; he wouldn't need him as much as he did before, but as long as Kurt was happy, he would be too.
The next day at the school assembly, Kurt was nervously biting on his lip, twisting his fingers as he waited for Principal Figgins to finish his announcement so the glee club could perform. Kurt was worried about choking and also about Blaine, because he noticed Blaine began distancing himself from Kurt. He would barely meet him outside class or even occasionally come to glee club, and Kurt wouldn't get the late night calls from Blaine anymore or have the boy sneak in his room at night when everyone was asleep.
Blaine came to the backstage a minute before performance time; he came up to Kurt and asked, "Nervous?"
"Terrified." Kurt whispered.
Blaine smiled and said, "You'll do great… just like you always do, with or without me."
Kurt frowned at Blaine's statement.
"I...Blaine-?" Kurt was about to ask Blaine what he meant by that but the glee club was called on stage, and Kurt frowned, as he watched Blaine walk away to stand with the rest of the club. Kurt took center stage and began, with Rachel and Blaine backing up his voice and the glee club singing the chorus.
Love that once hung on the wall
Used to mean something, but now it means nothing
The echoes are gone in the hall
But I still remember, the pain of December
Oh, there isn't one thing left you could say
I'm sorry it's too late
I'm breaking free from these memories
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I've said goodbye
Set it all on fire
Gotta let it go, just let it go
You came back to find I was gone
And that place is empty,
Like the hole that was left in me
Like we were nothing at all
It's not what you meant to me
Thought we were meant to be
Oh, there isn't one thing left you could say
I'm sorry it's too late
I'm breaking free from these memories
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I've said goodbye
Set it all on fire
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I let it go and now I know
A brand new life is down this road
And when it's right, you always know
So this time I won't let go
There's only one thing left here to say
Love's never too late
I've broken free from those memories
I've let it go, I've let it go
And two goodbyes led to this new life
Don't let me go, don't let me go
Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go
Won't let you go, don't let me go
Won't let you go, don't let me go
Kurt finished with a note and his chest heaved, just waiting for insults or things thrown at him like it usually happened, but instead he received applause.
A wide grin broke out on Kurt's face, and he jumped up and down turning to go hug his friends at his accomplishments. He looked around the crowd of his friends to find Blaine, but instead he saw Blaine smiling at him and mouthed 'I Love You' before he turned around and left without even hugging and kissing Kurt for his accomplishment.
