Chapter 10
Riku was going crazy, he didn't know if Ren and Len were more horrible than Yui and Azusa nagging at each other like a newly wed couple. He just kept his eye's on the road and hoped that Mugi could calm them down, said girl was giggling and having nosebleed every few minutes. I'm dropping Yui off first...He stopped at a stop light and turned around "Yui how far?" he asked, Yui happily gave him the address and continued to play I Spy with Azusa, who was trying hard not to smack the airhead. Mio sat in the front quietly looking out the window and a couple of occasions would whisper a few comments. "Rikkun can you drop me off here" Mugi called grabbing her stuff. Riku frowned "Mugi-chan are you sure?" He asked concerned. "Yes my home is really far and I don't want to trouble you and make the other girls late" she said smiling up at the boy. Riku smiled back and trusted the girl to be safe as she waited for the train, "Bye bye Mugi-chan" Yui chirped, "Mugi-sempai see you tomorrow "Azusa waved, "Bye Mugi be safe" Mio smiled. "Bye Mugi-sama" Riku teased when the girl blushed and headed to the ticket machine. Riku drove off, one down, three to go! he thought speeding up a bit, He looked to his left and saw the most beautiful sight ever, Mio had her eye's closed and the small wind from the window blew her hair ever so lighlty...Cheeks pink, lips in a small smile. Riku snapped his neck to look at the road instead , his cheeks were hot and his heart raced.
Azusa watched carefully from the backseat and noticed the boy's blush, Did this mean... She looked at Mio and noted the girl was still daydreaming and didn't see a thing. "Hey Azu-nyan" Yui whispered as she moved closer to the girl, "I think Rikkun likes Mio-chan" she finished and Azusa was stunned. Out of all the people, Yui had actually noticed something that Mugi and Mio herself didn't know. Well she thought about it but this was just surprising to her that Yui was so...observent, or maybe not. "I'm just kidding Azu-nyan that could never happen Mio-chan loves Ricchan" Yui giggled, everyone knows that... Azusa thought looking at Mio who seemed to act like she didn't hear anything. A few minutes later the car stopped once again to drop Yui off, "Yui were here!" Riku announced a smile on his face. "Ok, bye Rikkun, Mio-chan, Azu-nyan!" Yui sang as she quickly hugged Azusa before the girl could react to her attack, She skipped to the front door and entered with a happy grin on her face. That was the best car ride ever! Yui thought happily. Two down, Two to go...
Mio started to feel nervous and her heart raced faster, she looked to her right and blushed hotly. He looks so cute...she thought as Riku brushed his bangs to the side, The boy was speeding a bit but she didn't notice. Azusa sat in the back and watched, eyes narrowed she decided to break the silence,"Riku-kun, can you drop me off next" Riku nodded and asked her for the address. So this was Sawako-sensei's plan to get these two together... Mio turned around slighty, "Azusa you live pretty close right" she asked as the younger girl nodded. She lived close but only told Jun,Mugi and Mio for Yui's and Ritsu's sake. If she told Yui and Ritsu, her home would be vandalize or worse broken in by the airhead guitarist and rambunctious drummer any day of the week and that didn't sit well with her at all. She frowned inwardly, imagining the duo Breaking valuables and trashing her house in less than an hour. Her mood shifted ad her thoughts turned cloudy at the thought of their drummer, for once she wished the cazy brunettes would jump out of nowhere and scare her. A tear fell but she brushed it way as soon as it appeared, her friends were happy and so was she , nothing could break them apart. Mio turned back around and wondered why Azusa's expression changed and then turned to a small smile of satisfaction.
Riku's voice startled her" Azusa- chan which house?, were on your street" Riku asked, as he slowed down the car and cruised through the quiet street, Azusa pointed to the last house all the way at the end. The car stopped and Azusa grabbed her things, "Thank you very much for the ride Riku-san, Mio-sempia see you tomorrow" She waved rushing to her house smiling the whole way. Three down ,one to go he thought feeling a bit anxious. He made a tight turn and drove out of the street causing Mio to grab the handle of the door. Mio was fidgeting in her seat, nervous to tell him she was not going to her house but to the Tainaka's instead. The family had asked her to come and visit, stating that they didn't want to lose two daughters. It hurt Mio to go into the house and not being able to see her best friend anymore, but they treated her like family and Mio treasured that as much as Ritsu did. Even Satoshi treated her like family, calling her onee-chan sometimes when she had study sessions with Ritsu. Her thoughts difted to reality, she looked at Riku and spoke softly "R-Riku-kun...I'm not going to my house now so you can drop me off" she said looking at her lap.
Riku turned to look at her, he was curious about were she was going. "Do you mind if i ask were you are going?" He smiled sheepishly when Mio looked up to meet his eyes, She wondered why this seemed really hard to say. It's just that I'm going to my dead friends house to say hi! she thought sarcastically, Riku waited patiently for her answer as they stopped at a red light. Mio took a deep breath before responding "I'm visiting a close family and I didn't want to drag you along" She said sincerely, letting a small sigh escape her lips. Riku nodded "Will you let me drive you there then so I don't feel bad for making you walk all the way" blushing hotly, Mio accepted his offer seeing that it wasn't a bad idea. She shifted to sit more comfortably, letting her head rest, she was worried over nothing. Ritsu would approve of this right? "Ok tell me where to go" he chuckled seeing the ravenette smile and brush her hair to the side. The ride was far to short as the two talked about school, friends and music, Riku realized to late that he was driving through his old street. What are we doing here...oh wait the family she's visiting is... "Were here" Mio announced looking out the window smiling when she saw Satoshi.
"Mio-oneechan" Satoshi greeted when Mio stepped out of the car, "Hi Satoshi-kun" Mio greeted with a smile, hugging the boy shyly. Riku sat in his seat trying to calm his emotions that were going crazy. My family is out their...should I see them...But i don't think i can keep myself from breaking down...He looked out the window to see Satoshi smiling and his parents by the door. Just go everything... will be fine, a voice said which Riku took as Ricchan. He took a huge breath before trusting Ricchan's words of encouragement. Minutes later he stepped out as well when Mio and Satoshi separated, "Hello there" Riku said sticking his hand to shake, Satoshi shook his hand " Umm...do I know you?" he asked eyeing Riku.
I'm your sister...I-I mean b-brother! he mentally screamed " I'm sorry my name is Riku"
"Riku huh...no last name?" Satoshi questioned. Its a long story, please don't ask...
"...?"
" I said, you have no-" interrupted him, "Satoshi please don't be rude to this handsome young man" she smiled at Riku while Satoshi muttered a few comments, "Well Mio-chan I see you invited your boyfriend" Mrs. Tainaka giggled, when Mio's cheeks turned a shade of red at the comment. "H-He's not m-my boyfriend!" Mio defended avoiding the older woman's eye's, Riku blushed and looked at . "Now honey don't assume things like that , there just kids" walked towards his wife and ushered her to the house. "Time for dinner!" sang, trying to push her husband off her. Satoshi sighed, "That's my family for you" well not entirely...
Mio was trying not to melt into a puddle of goo from embarrassment, Riku's fake smile seemed to twitch and resemble a frown instead. Satoshi narrowed his eyes and kept an eye on him from a far, he wasn't sure about this Riku character or his good looks. "Mio-chan come in before dinner gets cold" mentioned to them. All three entered the house after Satoshi, which Mio could sense Riku's hesitation upon stepping foot in the home. She turned to see Riku's worried eye's flash different emotions every timed he blinked, Mio put a hand on his shoulder to grab his attention. "A-Are you o-okay?" she asked when Riku flinched to her touch, "Sorry just froze up a bit...we should probably go in" Mio nodded. Riku took a short intake of breath but it soon left him breathless as the familiar atmosphere hit him, bringing cherished memories back. Mio let out a peaceful sigh, smiling at the pictures of the family she's known since elementary, one picture made her blush. The picture was of her and Ritsu snuggling together in the latter's bed happily, she wondered who had taken the picture and looked to see winking at her from the table.
Maybe inviting Riku was a bad idea but he seems to like them and they seem to like him...Mio thought looking at the boy chatting away with , Satoshi on the other hand looked jealous? She's seen the same look before but it was always geared towards Ritsu instead. Riku motioned her to come sit next to him, Mio smiled shyly before sitting next to family immediately warmed up to Riku and asked him about his family and school stuff. Of course Riku lied about his childhood and the more he did, he just wanted to tell them the truth and get it all over with. Mio seemed the only one who listened closely without looking bored and Riku didn't care but he liked that Mio took interest. the rest of the dinner went well ,Satoshi asking multiple questions, Mrs. Tainaka embarrassing Mio every few moments and feeling hopeless but no one mentioned Ritsu through the whole. Riku felt at home the laughter of his parents soothed him but he could see a hint of sadness in their eyes which concerned him. I wonder how the rest of the night will go he thought finishing his plate of food.
Mrs. Tainaka wondered why she felt a familiar presence, she knew ghost didn't exist but her daughter's spirit maybe haunting them scared her a little. Her motherly sense's activated when a familiar grin appeared on the young girls face, that grin... she looked towards her husband and saw a slightly surprised expression on his face as well. Satoshi didn't see it but his mood shifted in discomfort. Riku's grin disappeared and everyone relaxed mentally but it still lingered in the air." I think i need to get going" Riku announced getting up with his plate in hand, "No please allow me and stay a little longer Riku-kun" Mrs. Tainaka pleaded looking at him weakly " Plus Mio is staying the night" added. Riku turned to Mio, the girl wanted to say something but kept her mouth shut. I guess I'm staying the night at my house weird...
