A/N: Sorry for the delay (again). I started working on this chapter and, while it ended up being more cracky than I planned, I enjoyed it.
Time to bring Dad into the mix. Enjoy!
Daniel was the last one to arrive in the briefing room. Sam had taken a position in front of the display board and once he took his seat and nodded at her, she regarded the rest of the room with a quick glance and began.
"According to the samples retrieved by the science teams on 482, an unusual mineral concentration occurred once every 500 years or so. At first, we speculated that it might have signaled a shift in the normal climate of the planet, similar to an ice age or a global warming trend. However, upon complete analysis of the samples," she stated, clicking the remote to show the next slide, "I now believe that the mineral concentration is actually fossil remains."
"Fossil remains?" Daniel asked, pushing on the bridge of his glasses. "Remains of what?"
Sam smiled. "Of the various species that the pollen bugs have inhabited."
Teal'c raised his brow.
Daniel frowned slightly.
And Jack opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out.
"It makes sense. They hibernate for 500 years or so and when they wake up, they take a genetic sampling of the species currently on their world. It's not an excessive amount, but through the layer samples that we brought back, I've been able to detect DNA from different species: Goa'uld, Jaffa, even Asgard."
Jack finally spoke. "The Asgard have been here?"
She nodded.
"For what purpose would the lifeform do this?" Teal'c asked solemnly.
She held up the hand that was holding the remote. "That, I don't know."
Jack cleared his throat. "Let's say you're right. Which you normally are. Why would you end up pregnant?"
"Again, I don't know. It's still speculation, but without a mountain of proof or more historical records, it's going to be difficult to know for sure."
"Offworld activation!"
Everyone stood and headed for the stairs; they had the schedule memorized well enough that they knew no one was due in.
Teal'c and Daniel passed Sam, but she paused and held up a hand to Jack. With wide eyes she asked, "You think I'm crazy?"
Jack regarded her with a soft smile. "Carter, your presentation got interrupted. I didn't get all the facts."
"That was most of them. But seriously. Am I just grasping for straws on this?"
"Carter, don't second guess yourself. If this is what you think happened, you're probably right. You usually are," he reminded her. "Now let's go see who's at the door."
They arrived in the control room just as Walter looked up. "Receiving the Tok'ra IDC, sir."
"Dad," Sam breathed.
"Open the iris," Jack commanded as SG-1 headed for the gate room.
Sam looked at her stomach. "Well, this is gonna be fun."
Jacob had just returned from an undercover mission, literally just stepping through the Stargate, when Marnon approached him with the message that his presence was urgently requested on Earth by the Tau'ri. Jacob was assured that his daughter was fine and that they needed his help with an analysis.
As he quickly cleaned the dirt off his face and changed his clothing, he realized that he hadn't seen Sam in months and Mark for even longer. A smile came to his face, looking forward to his trip, even if was just for a soil analysis.
But when Jacob Carter exited the Stargate, the first faces he saw were the men on SG-1, followed by Jack O'Neill.
"Jacob, welcome back," Daniel intoned, extending a hand.
Jacob took it and shook it, smiling although his eyes were searching for his daughter. "Nice to be back. Although why you called me all the way here for a lab analysis, I don't understand."
"It's a little bit more than that, Dad," Sam replied as she stepped into the gate room.
Jacob started to grin and then quickly stopped as she moved in front of the guys.
Sam was pregnant.
And not only that, she had been pregnant for quite some time.
She smiled. "We've got some things to talk about."
His self-control went out the window. "Uh, yeah, I think so!" Jacob exclaimed loudly, almost yelling.
Sam stepped back, the look on her face disheartening.
Then Jacob took a back seat momentarily as a voice rose from within him.
"Do not let your emotions overrule your judgment," Selmak counseled.
He nodded to himself and let Selmak assume control for a moment. "Forgive your father for his reaction, Colonel Carter. He was unaware that you were with child."
"Well, it's a little more complicated than that," Sam replied with a nod. "Let's continue this in the briefing room, shall we?"
Once they arrived back upstairs, Selmak dipped his head and Jacob returned. "Sorry, kiddo, I didn't mean to go off like that in front of everyone. I just assumed that you would've told me if you were pregnant. Or seeing someone, for that matter."
"Colonel Carter is not with child through usual means," Teal'c supplied as he sat at the table.
Jacob cast a glare around the table. "Who's fault is this?"
"Dad," Sam grumbled awkwardly.
His gaze rested on Jack for a moment. But when the general quickly looked away, Jacob groaned. "Seriously, Jack?"
"It wasn't me, I swear. Well, I mean, it kinda was, but-"
"Sir, can I explain this?"
Jacob's head wanted to spin. "Somebody please do!"
"Colonel Carter was impregnated by an alien entity offworld which used genetic material from O'Neill. It appears to have a rapid life span, as we only encountered it five days ago. According to Doctor Frasier, she will give birth in two days." Teal'c sat back in his seat, seemingly proud of himself.
Jacob cocked his head to the side. "Still not the craziest thing I've ever heard."
Sam smiled awkwardly. "Yeah."
"So is this why you called me back? To tell me I'm going to be a grandfather to an alien baby?"
Jack perked up. "Well, not only that. Carter thinks that you can help positively identify the substance in the bedrock."
Jacob closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I think I'm getting a headache."
Sam smiled and reached over, patting his hand. "How badly would Selmak hurt you if you had a cup of coffee?"
"Not much. He's got a headache too."
Next chapter is already in the works. I'll be back soon. :)
