Continuation…

Holly's P.O.V.:

The Train whistle was ringing really loudly I honestly don't know how it could be so loud. One thing I am happy about, when it comes to be woken up, is the fact that this signifies our arrival to Devonshire. Greg and I are finally alone. This is our time to be ourselves, and do as we please. It will almost be like a preview to our married life. I couldn't be happier.

"Greg"

"GREG…" I started to shake his shoulder lightly.

"Mmh…Let me sleep just a little longer."

"Greg we are pulling into the train station it is time we get going."

"Okay…Okay I am up."

He shifted in seat and took his arm away. Instantaneously I felt this shiver creep its way up my spine and I shuddered slightly. I never really knew just how much I had grown accustomed to his arm around me till just now. I turned in my seat to gather my hat and gloves that I had taken off at some point during our trip here. He stood up to grab our one bag that was with us. The train came to a stop, steam from the engine and wheels started billowing upwards, fogging up the windows. He offered me his hand and helped me with my coat. We then proceeded to leave the train ready to start our two—three day trip here doing as we pleased.

Greg's P.O.V.:

As we walked off the train I looked around for James, the house driver. When I was growing up I got really close to all of the staff and treated them more and more like family. For the past few years though I have been living in London between school and work. James was standing near the platform exit, with most of our luggage already set up. I walked over with Holly on my one arm. I shook his one hand.

"Lord Greg how have you been?"

"Well James, and you?"

"Very good."

"How has Anne and Timothy been?"

"Getting along, shall we go to the car?"

"Please lead the way."

As we sat down in the back of the car Holly put her hand in my lap, and I wrapped my hand around hers. We sat in silence mostly on the way back to Devonshire Place. As we entered through the gates I could see Holly's eyes light up in amazement. With the sun setting just on the horizon the sky and trees glowed a magnificent blood orange.

We came to a stop and the staff was all outside to greet us. I shook my head; with the sun setting there was no real for the whole staff to be outside like that. I came out of the car and helped Holly while James and two other footmen went to work grabbing our cases from the back of the car. William, the head butler, and Elizabeth, the head maid, came over to greet us.

"Lord Heffley, it's a pleasure to welcome you home sir."

"Yes we missed your glowing personality around here."

"William, Elizabeth I have told you a million times its just Greg."

"Right sir."

"Shall we get you settled in, and changed for supper?"

"Yes please."

"Will your farther, mother and Lord Manny be joining us?"

"No just the two of us."

"Very good sir. The grand hall or is just the main eatery okay?"

"The main eatery its only two of us."

"Okay, we will get to work then."

"Hold on just a second, I just want to say something to everyone first."

"Be my guest." They stepped back to their positions and I turned to Holly taking her hand.

"Everyone, first off its amazing to be home again, nothing has really changed. I hope everyone is really well. Now I have another announcement to make. I am sure most of you already know, knowing my mother, but I would like to formally introduce you to my lovely fiancé Lady Holly Hills, the daughter of the Earl of Shrewsbury. "

"Congratulations Lord Greg we are truly elated."

"We thank you all." Holly remained stuck at my side, her grip never wavering. I wondered why, she's always loving and outgoing, doing everything possible to welcome people.

As we entered the house the servants became busy again walking off to ready various parts of the house. I showed Holly to the way to our rooms, which were my old rooms retro fitted with a second closet/sitting area for Holly to get ready daily.

"So this is ours."

"All of this is ours?"

"Yes. Right through here is my dressing chamber and bed and through side entrance is your drawing table and dressing area."

"Greg"

"Yes?"

"I feel like this is all too much."

"How so?"

"Shouldn't we live a simple life?"

"We could if we wanted to. You know before about 2 years back when Roderick was still the heir, I saved up the money I had and did little work for others and bought a small house in London. We can live there if you want for a while."

"I don't mean for us to not be involved in your family, I just want us to have time to live as us, and just us."

"I know what you mean I completely understand."

"So what would we do if we lived in the city?"

"Well I have interned at a few law firms and I was looking to become a partner once I graduated, so I could do that. And you could find work if you wanted as well I mean you have the same degree."

"That sounds amazing Greg."

"We just have to come back and spend holidays and such here at Devonshire. I am still training to be the Duke of Devonshire and there is still a lot for me to learn."

"Absolutely." I moved closer to her throughout our conversation, and now my hands were resting on her waist. I leaned down and kissed her softly.

"Greg its getting late we should go eat and get to sleep there is a lot we have to get done while we are here."

Holly's P.O.V.:

We parted to our respective dressing areas to freshen up and then we walked back down the main stairs hand in hand to the small dinning area. There was something almost regal about the way we descended the stairs to the dinning area. We entered the dinning area to see William and two footmen ready to start serving us dinner.

"William we told something simple, there was no need for you to go all out like this and stress the staff." Greg said.

"Well sir we felt it necessary as we welcomed the newest member to the Heffley Household."

"I thank you kind sir." I said trying to end the conversation.

We were seated at the smaller table and began our dinner and as we sat there is palpable silence I felt it necessary to end the awkward feeling that was settling in.

"So tell me William how long have you been working here?"

"Well Lady Holly since before Lord Greg here was born, just as his brother was born in fact."

"So that means that you would have quite the amount of embarrassing stories to share of Greg here."

"I do know quite a lot about him your ladyship."

"Please enlighten us and call me Holly as you call him Greg."

"Well when Lord…. Sorry, Greg was just a wee babe and first learned to climb and walk, he started to climb up sofas and stand up tall, once or twice he took his shirt off and wrapped it around his neck to show his super powers."

"I really don't see how this stiff guy could ever be capable of this." Greg's cheeks we flaring red and I was trying to bit back a laugh. We finished dinner and excused our selves to go back upstairs. We wished William and the staff a good dinner and good night. As we went up stairs I felt so at home. Once at the top of the stairs I pulled Greg back by his hand. "Are we going to be sleeping in the same chambers now?"

"Yes, I didn't see the point in readying a guest room, after all we are engaged and here for only a few days."

"Oh okay, that's better then what I thought." We continued to walk towards our chambers; along the way I saw all the plaques that donned the grand hall entrance. All the different figures were so interesting. "Greg what are all of these plaques?" There must have been 15 or so.

"Mmh, oh these?" We stopped at the railing and he leaned on it pointing to the plaques.

"Yeah."

"Well each one represents a different Duke of Devonshire. The first one is a Moose head/antlers. When the Duke marries and takes over as the Duke, and bears a child, if he takes on a title from his wife or his wife is of significant standing the symbol is shifted and the symbols are combined." He pointed to several ones that were split.

"So our child's stamp will combine the Devonshire symbol and the Shrewsbury Symbol?"

"Most likely. Now mine is just the Moose head/Antlers because my mom although wealthy and such is now of English Peerage."

"I see."

"See there you go, you have already started completing your task of learning about the family you are marrying into."

"Come on, let's go to bed." We continued the walk to the bedroom. I can't believe what I had just said to Greg. Kids, I mean I guess a part of me has always wanted them but I never really thought about having them recently. I certainly since our time together have not thought about a child. I was on autopilot getting ready for bed, I kept dreaming of our life, kids running around with blond hair, thick and long like Greg's, hazel eyes changing with different light. My god it was a reality. As I slid in next to Greg I couldn't help but wonder what was I going to be like as a mom. Greg leaned over to me and kissed my forehead gently.

"Holly, honey, what's going on?"

"Huh, nothing really."

"Oh come on we both know that's a lie. You have been spacey since we left dinner." He teased me.

"I have just been thinking about what I said."

"What do you mean?" We were now laying on our sides facing each other. His hand was resting on my waist; it was a warm calming presence.

"Its just that…As a girl growing up, I adored my parents and I always imagined that I would marry a respectful guy like my dad, that I would be a loving parent to children of my own."

"There's nothing wrong with that, and if I do say so myself, you are marrying quite a good looking guy, last I heard he was one of the best looking in the country, a very honest and modest fellow." I swatted his forearm. "Ouch."

"I just I hope I didn't freak you out by talking about our future child, with the whole sign thing."

"No of course not. I mean eventually we will have to have kids to further the Heffley line, to have another Duke of Devonshire."

"But is that out of duty Greg?"

"I…Holly look I have been thinking recently about us and us getting married. I proposed to you knowing that I wanted a future with you, that I love you and that I will love any future children we may have. In part having that/those kid/s will be out of duty, but really it will be out of love. I am not going to ask you to bring a child into this world if I wasn't sure I wanted a child. I will love this/these kid/s as much as I love their mother. I will have a kid with you not because I want to show to you how much I love you, but because I love you."

"Greg, I'm sorry for bringing up such a touchy topic for us like this."

"There is no reason to apologize. When we have kids maybe in the near future they will be born from love and into a loving family with parents who are madly in love with each other and adore them."

"I love you Greg."

"I love you Holly." He leaned in and kissed me softly on the lips. This was our life and we were about to begin it as man and wife. I couldn't fathom all that we had been through, how it could have possibly lead us to this moment, but it did and I wouldn't change anything in the world. This moment and us were prefect, a snapshot of time that I wanted to memorize perfectly.

Greg's P.O.V.:

I woke up to the soft sunlight piercing through the heavy curtains. Holly was curved into my chest and I had my arm gently wrapped around her waist. I brought up my other hand to slightly stroke her hair. I was taking in the beautiful sight of the early morning, orange and red dancing across the early morning skyline.

What a hole I dug myself into last night. What was I even talking about? I definitely wanted kids; I wanted Holly to be their mother. Why did I even talk about duty and that linage shit? That had never crossed my mind before, why did it come up last night. My god that really must have shocked Holly, no wonder she was hesitant when I opened my arms to her last night. She began to stir in my arms and I wrapped my arms tighter around her giving her a makeshift hug. She turned to me and my eyes meet hers. I leaned in to kiss her, and our lips meet in a light kiss. I could feel that she was hesitant as we kissed. When I pulled away I saw a slight shine in her eyes. I knew she was upset about what happened last night. "I'm sorry about last night." She sighed and turned away from me.

"It's a sensitive topic and not everyone wants kids in life, I get it."

"I, that's not what I…"

"Its okay. I'm going to go get dressed for the day; I'll see you at breakfast." I followed her out of bed and grabbed her arm. I turned her towards me, I looked upon her with pleading eyes.

"I want kids with you one day absolutely, I want them out of love and nothing less. They will come to us in time and I will adore them just as I adore their mom. I am sorry for that idiocy last night." Her arms came around my neck and we kissed softly. Soon a passion burned inside of me and I pulled her closer. She pulled me closer still. Our kiss became more aggressive and we stepped back towards the bed. We were leaning against the bedside. As she laid back, she pulled me with her. We were intensely kissing when I could sense this inner resistance from her. I flipped off of her and sat up. She sat up with me, we were breathing heavy, trying to catch our breath.

"I, Greg, I…"

"Don't say anything."

"That was… I am… thank you for…"

"Yeah, we will in due time, but now was…"

"But it was pleasurable, and if it weren't for current circumstances I wouldn't have wanted you to stop."

"I know, and I don't think I would have been able to stop really." She laughed at that and stood up.

"I'll see you at breakfast in a few minutes. Wear something casual, we are touring the town."

"Yeah see you in a few." She leaned over and kissed me quickly on the lips. As she walked away, I ran my hands through my hair. God I loved her, and god was I an idiot for everything that I said last night. I walked to the bathroom rinsed my face; then I inspected the small stubble that was on my face. I figured I could get away with what little I had for the day. As I dressed for the day I picked one of my lower end suits that was slightly more worn. I exited the room and went down the stairs to see Holly already there waiting for me at breakfast.

"Morning your Lordship and Ladyship." A footman said as her laid out our food.

"Morning." We said in unison. William entered the dinning area and greeted us, then proceed to ask if the meal was alright. During the meal William left and returned with the morning post and news.

"Sir, here you are."

"William, I am not my father in anyway shape or form. I will take the morning news but please I am not so particular about it."

"I was following your fathers orders sir."

"Oh and those are?"

"Well to help you transition into becoming the lord of the manor and Duke of Devonshire."

"I see. Well thank you."

"So, what are we to do today?" Holly asked while spreading butter and jam on her toast.

"I thought we could tour the estate and town, familiarize you with the family holdings and townspeople."

"Sounds like a plan to me."

"Great, we should get going soon though. There is a lot to see."

"Alright, well I am ready to go now."

"Then lets go. William we will see you later."

"Shall I have the car brought round sir?"

"For latter, right now I will take her round Devonshire first."

"Very good sir." We walked from the dinning hall back to the main entrance. I took her through to the library, where we commonly rest, chat and have tea. I walked her through the drawing room and large dinning hall. I took her through the main entrance and the numerous bedrooms. As we finished I took her out the side door and to the main lawn and back lawn. We edged towards the woods a little and I took her in through a well-known path. After a few seconds I had her close her eyes. Right off the beaten path was a gated little patch of grass gated off. It was several steps tucked between the thick of the trees. I opened the gate and we stepped inside.

Holly's P.O.V.:

As I stood still waiting I could hear Greg moving something metal. Then he was standing behind me. He took my blindfold off, and his lips found the little skin showing on my shoulder and neck.

"Here open your eyes."

"Oh my."

"I had it made when we left for the garden party."

"Its just like the little area that we met in all the those years ago."

"I had the two benches put in and it's gated off to prevent animals or random people from coming in. The gardener keeps the grass and flowers. The small shed has some lawn chairs and a table or two for longer stays."

"Its perfect Greg. I absolutely love it."

"I was hoping that it would be our little spot, for us to enjoy as we please."

"It is truly amazing Greg." I turned into his arms and went up onto my tiptoes to kiss him. It was soft and light and short.

"Mmh…Not yet, stay here." He leaned back down to reconnect our lips. As we broke this time I kept my eyes closed savoring the moment. "Are you ready for luncheon Holly?"

"Yes."

"Lets head back then to the house. We will go to town afterward."

As we walked back hand in hand, I couldn't help but marvel in the greatness of the estate. This was going to be ours; this was going to be our life. I couldn't help but imagine what our life could be like. Once we entered through the back entrance through the servants' hall and kitchen, Greg lead the way to William's office. He knocked on the door, and whispered something to William before taking me back upstairs to the small dinning area. As we waited for food I struck up some conversation with Greg.

"So what are going to do in town?"

"We are going to finish looking at our property and then head into a local restaurant for dinner."

"I see, and when we are done with all that, shall we take a stroll under the night stars?"

"We shall."

"Sounds delightful." Just then steaming food, which unmistakably smelt like rice, beans and noodle soup, my favorite, came through the doors. We sat in comfortable silence as we ate our meal together. I started to drift off into a daydream. When I came to again a few minutes later I was caught in this whirlpool of chocolate that were Greg's eyes. My god he was so handsome and pleasing to the eye.

"Greg darling?"

"Yes Holly honey?"

"I was thinking about the wedding."

"Mmh okay."

"Well I was thinking that we could hold the reception at Shrewsbury as per tradition, but outside on the lawn, granted it doesn't rain."

"Sounds fine to me."

" And for the ceremony, a local church at Shrewsbury if that's fine."

"Alright."

"Then we can stay at Shrewsbury for a day and then head to our honeymoon."

"Okay."

"For the honey moon I was thinking something a little different like the South coast of France and maybe Italy."

"Fine with me."

"Greg could you please say something that isn't just yes, please its our wedding we should both be planning it."

"Listen Holly I am marry the love of my life I really don't care how or when, just that I am."

"Aw Greg that's very romantic of you."

"Thank you I've told that I'm a charmer."

"Really by whom?"

"Just my fiancé, and a few others."

"Oh I see. Would your fiancé be jealous if we went out since you're such a charmer?"

"Nah I don't think so, she knows I'm all hers." Holly started laughing at his comment. He was happy with her and she was happy with him. They finished eating and went to the town. All the property holdings shocked Holly. As they wrapped up all of their tours, they headed back for dinner and a night of well-deserved sleep. When they woke up they got on a train and headed for London.
