Yami's POV
She can't leave me! Why would her father suddenly want to take her back to Florida after three months? She was the only one who could talk to me and now her stepfather is going to… I can't let that happen now can I. While Yugi was in control I let him and Kris walk home together, with Jounochi, Honda, and Anzu. Kris was upset. "I just don't understand. My Stepfather would never come to take me anywhere. I hate that he is just going to take me away like this." Kris was genuinely upset and I was too. I was angry. We got to the apartment and there was a limo parked outside. Now I was shocked, what was a limo doing at this side of town? Kris glared at the limo. "He's already here. I thought he'd be a little late." We walked up to her apartment and there was a huge bulky man in a pin striped suit. He had a bald head and a tiny mustache. His eyes were tiny compared to his head and they were super dark. "Well, Kris looks like you have a few misfits follow you home." His voice was super deep. It even intimidated me. "I'm Mister O'Hera of the O'Hera gameing company. I see that you are my little girl's commoner friends. I hope she wasn't too much trouble." He smirked as he placed a hand on her shoulder. Grrrr! That was really ticking me off! Just the look on his smirk was screaming a creep, but I had to keep Yugi in control and not let my anger get the best of me. Kris turned red. "Father…please…why are you taking me back to Florida…the doctors are still talking to me about a possible surgery that could help me walk again…"
"That is why I am taking you back…you don't need surgery…you are fine the way you are." Kris looked shocked. I was really mad now! I took over and started to yell! "ESCUSE ME! SHE WANTED TO GET A SURGERY TO HELP HER WALK AND YOU ARE SAYING NO!? DO YOU EVEN CARE FOR HER!? WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU STRIP HER OF A CHANCE TO WALK AGAIN!?" Mr. O'Hera glared at me and everyone else gave me a shocked look. (Yep I stepped way out of line there.) "What is your name boy?" Oh shit! I didn't even think this through; I wasn't even thinking when I blurted my answer. "Yami…Yami Yugi Motou and I suggest that you let Kris have the surgery that she has been talking about to the doctors." Kris looked as if she was going to faint. (Luckily if she did she wouldn't fall because she's already in a wheel chair) Mr. O'Hera walked up to me and gave me the coldest look I have ever received. "You think that you know more about my stepdaughter than I do? I the man who raised her after being dumped by her unloving biological parents, I who changed her clothing, gave her food and shelter and the best education than what you ever had, Yet you think that you know her better than me?" He was egging me on, I just know it, but why should I let this creep get the best of me? I let him know what was on my mind and I knew I was going to get it for what I was about to say next. "Oh yes I do, and I say you are just a greedy man…I can see it by the way Kris reacts to you, She is silent and avoids eye contact. I don't know what you did to her to make her fear you but I know that you did something to my gi…dear friend." Everyone eyes grew large as I said this. Mr. O'Hera looked over at Kris and glared. "Kris…if this is the kind of man you would associate yourself to…then I came at the right time. You are coming home to Florida tonight. As for the rest of you…you will leave now!" I refused. "No…I will not leave until you explain why Kris can't have the surgery." That was when he slapped me across the face, leaving a long bloody scratch across my face. Kris looked like she was going to cry. Tears started to come to my eyes. I hurried out of the apartment, leaving everyone behind. I looked in the mirror of the restroom and touched the scratch on my face. I could feel my heart breaking. How could I stop him from taking her…he was right, he is her stepfather…her legal guardian, but in my heart I just knew he can't take her. The look of fear in her eyes just proves that he can't take her. I couldn't hold my tears back, I didn't want to be left alone again and the more I thought about it, the more I hurt on the inside. The thought of being left alone with no one who could see me…it was driving me insane. If Kris goes…then I would be truly alone until Yugi hears my screams…I don't even know if he ever will hear me. That was what scared me the most. Being forgotten and lost in time.
Jounochi's POV
When I saw Yugi run out like that, I just knew it was that other Yugi I saw that last time. He looked like he was hurt, not from the slap but from an internal pain. Yami was his name was it? I just know it wasn't my Yugi. I noticed that Kris did look fearful of her stepfather. I knew the feeling all to well. I know that her step dad is a drunk like mine, the way his eyes were. They were glassy and watery. So I had to help her out. First I had to find Yugi…er Yami. He noticed it first and I think if we both help protect Kris from her stepfather, she might be able to stay. "Hey Anzu…will you and Honda wait for me and Yugi outside…I got an idea." Anzu nodded. She noticed the difference in Yugi as well. "Okay Jounochi just don't get in to trouble." She and Honda walked outside while I looked for Yami Yugi. I looked in the restrooms in the lobby and saw that He was washing his face off. His eyes were slightly red and he looked frustrated. He didn't even notice me until I walked up to him. "Yu…Yami?"
"Hu!" Yami looked up and backed up defensively. "I…"
"Don't worry Yami…I'm not going to beat you up or anything. I want to help you out. You and I both know that Kris's stepfather is abusive. It's obvious by her reaction." Yami looked down. "I know…you're not afraid of me?" I smirked. This guy in Yugi…whoever he is, saved my ass before many times and he thinks that I'm afraid of him? "Hell no Yami…You saved my life before, you and Yugi both. I may not know what you are, whether it is a split persona or something but I know you are good at heart." Yami gave a small smile. "I hate that I am the cause of Yugi's black outs…one day He and I will meet face to face. Jonouchi you have been such a blessing to me, you know that right? I wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for you." I was lost. "Hu?"
"Long story short, you helped Yugi finished the puzzle. But right now we have to help Kris. What is the plan?" I smirked. He really was a nice guy. But time to get down to business. "We break Kris out of her apartment and prove that her step dad is abusive. We'll make him lose his claim on her." Yami nodded. "I agree but…" then Yami looked as if he remembered something. "I remember one time…Kris tried to walk but her lower back was bleeding. Do you think the reason her step father doesn't want her to have the surgery is because he was the reason she can't walk?" I thought about it, if what Yami said is true then that would be a viable reason for not wanting her to go though surgery. "She has to be brave enough to prove that this is the cause for her legs being paralyzed."
"She is…I know it."
Kris Horus POV
I can't believe that Yami would call out my step father like that. I just wish that he could help prevent me from getting dragged back to Florida with my father. "Kris…you should come with me." My step father demanded. "But…I want this surgery. I know it is pricy but it can help me in the long run…"
"I SAID YOU WILL NOT GET SURGERY! I FORBID IT!"
"Is it because of the piece of knife stuck in my lower back? Trust me no one will ever know about that…I could say that it was a bad accident. I know you are just trying to cover up." Actually, I never knew exactly what happened. It caused my memory lost but all I knew was that it wasn't an accident and I loathed that man for hurting me like that. He glared. "They will know it wasn't an accident, hence why you are not staying here any longer. But you will be punished for that boy's loose lips." He grabbed me and yanked me up to my feet. My back exploded in pain. "AHG! LET GO YOU MONSTER!"
"Go down the back way Kris…I'm taking you to one of the warehouses."
"HELL BE DAMNED IF I GO WITH YOU!" that was when I felt a cloth go over my face and a sickly sweet smell filled my nostrils. Oh shit…ch…chloroform! I blacked out.
Once I woke up. I found myself in an icy room, it was sealed and all that was in the room was a few vents "HELP! LET ME OUT! SOMEONE PLEASE!" I was trapped and that was when I heard the sound of water. My step father was going to kill me!
Yami's POV
It was dark and we looked everywhere for Kris. All her things were still in the apartment building, the police was calling this a kidnapping since Mr. O'Hera was wanted for fraud. Apparently his gaming business tried to trick Kaiba Corporation out of a bunch of money and he is trying to flee. I just felt in my guts that time was against me. That was when this melody started to play in my head. That same melody that I heard in my nightmares, but it was coming from within the puzzle. Without any thoughts, I took one piece of the puzzle out and looked at the back of it. Hidden there was a small button. I turned it and the back lifted out and revealed a hidden box, in it was a heart shaped locket that mirrored Kris's locket. The colors were darker but I just knew that this was connected to Kris's locket. I closed my eyes and placed the puzzle piece back in place. That was when I felt a vision come to mind. There was water….tons of freezing water and there in the mist of it all was Kris struggling in the room. She was fighting to hold her breathe. I then was taken out of the room and saw Mr. O'Hera smirking as he turned a red water valve in an abandoned warehouse. As soon as I snapped out of my vision, I ran. "WAIT KID WHERE ARE YOU GOING!?" called out one of the officers. "I HAVE A HUNCH! JUST FOLLOW ME QUICK!" I ran down the streets and looked around for the warehouse district. All the buildings looked the same, I closed my eyes again and some how the number 6 came up. The puzzle then started to glow hot. I then looked to the right. As if on cue, my eyes saw the number six warehouse. I looked behind to see that the police car followed behind me with my friends. I turned and ran in the building. I saw Mr. O'Hera and underneath his feet was a grid that was getting flooded with water. "You won't get away with this." I whispered to myself. Mr. O'Hera must have heard the police because he turned the water off quickly and ran. I looked around and saw one of the vents open and full of water. I just knew that this was where Kris was. So I dove in to the water and swam down the vent. It wasn't long until I got to the room. I kicked the grating out of the way and entered the room. I spotted Kris in the murky water and swam quickly towards her. I grabbed her arm and noticed that she had let go of the air she had. I did the only thing I could do. I pressed my lips against hers and forced some air into her mouth. Afterwards, I pulled her towards the vent that I came in from. I swam into the vent with her by my side. We got to the end of the vent and I realized that I had jumped into the vent; climbing out will be very difficult. Luckily for both Kris and me, Jounochi spotted the vent and helped us get out. Once we were out, Kris was still not breathing. The police were busy handcuffing Mr.O'Hera so I pressed my lips against hers and forced air into her, hoping that the air will force her to breathe. When I pulled back, Kris started to cough up water and shook violently. The medics spotted us and gave us both warm towels and blankets to wrap up in. I looked at Kris. She looked terrified. "Kris?"
"Y…Yes Yami…" she turned red when she looked up at me. "Are you okay now? I mean there isn't any more water in your lungs is there?"
"Y…Yes I'm fine now…thank you…you always seem to save my ass. It must be frustrating."
"No…that is what I am here to do…save lives." I blushed at that comment. It was sappy even for me (Yuck!) "How did you find me Yami? How did you know that I was here?"
"You could call it a spirit's intuition." Kris smiled. "Kris why didn't you tell anyone about the surgery you were planning to under go?"
"I…wasn't sure about it. It's really pricy and risky, only a fifty percent success rate so far." I saw the worry in her eyes. "Look you will get the surgery one way or another. And with the success rate, you will be a success. I know it because you a very lucky girl who survives just about any attack thrown at her. I think it's that Lady Hawk side of you." Even though Lady Hawk nearly castrated me and Yugi, but hey she is still a badass. "You really think so Yami?"
"Think so…I know so." Then I looked away, I just realized that I had kissed her earlier twice….I mean it wasn't per say a kiss but…it wasn't not a kiss either…At that moment I gave control to Yugi and he was confused as to why Kris was hugging him. "Thank you Yugi…you are a real life saver."
"Hu? I am?" Kris nodded. "You are." I couldn't help but to smile at the young one confusion. One day Yugi…One day soon we will meet face to face, and at that day, all will become clear.
