Last time...
"Guys listen to this. My parents were just telling me that two criminals broke out of jail today, if we go out looking for your friend tomorrow, we should be extra careful." She held up her phone for everyone to see.
"Wait a second! Is that..." Suki stepped forward.
"What's going on?" Toph asked, unable to see what was on the phone.
"It's a blurred picture of the two escapees, and the escapee in front had a giant scar surrounding his left eye! It has to be..." Suki trailed off.
"It's Zuko!"
Sokka's POV
Sokka could feel the tenseness in the room. Toph let out an exasperated groan.
"Of course HE would get himself into some kind of trouble like this!"
Sokka couldn't help but agree with Toph's comment.
"Look on the bright side though," Katara chimed in, "At least we have an idea of where he is now."
Sokka noticed Riley standing off to the side, examining the picture.
"Who's with him?"
Sokka moved closer, looking over Riley's shoulder. He hadn't really noticed the other guy until Riley brought him up, but now... A thoughtful expression overtook his features. He knew Zuko wasn't the type of guy to just work with anyone, so something must have happened forhim to cooperate with this mysterious fellow. Sokka voiced his thoughts to the others.
"I wonder why Zuko would work with this guy."
Riley shrugged, "Maybe they didn't work together but just used the other's escape as an opportunity for his own escape."
Aang shook his head, "Zuko wouldn't let that happen, besides, how did he even get into jail in the first place?"
Toph snorted, "You know Zuko, he just cant keep himself out of trouble."
"What should we do now?" Suki asked.
"There's nothing we can do tonight," Aang stated, "We should get some sleep and carry on with our original plan, and now we have a lead."
Everyone agreed and they all settled down, saying their goodnights before drifting into a deep sleep.
The next morning...
"What is a...pancake?" Sokka asked.
Marley looked up from her menu. "They don't have pancakes where your from?"
"Nope."
"Well then, there's no way I'm not letting you guys go on without trying one."
She waved the waiter over to the table and ordered pancakes for the entire table.
Soon they all had plates of steaming golden cakes in front of them. Marley passed Sokka a bottle of brown liquid.
"Usually we put syrup on them."
"Wow these are really good!" Suki exclaimed.
Katara agreed wholeheartedly, "I could eat these everyday! I wonder if I could somehow get the recipe to bring back. "
A dreamy expression came over Aang's face as he took a bite, "Man, I wish they had these back home."
Sokka eagerly took a bite of his own, not wanting to miss out on the delicious food. The "pancakes" melted in his mouth. He had never tasted anything quite like it, it almost reminded him of the fried dough they had back in Chin Village. Aang interrupted his train of thought.
"So I've been thinking about how we should go about this. First of all, we should go get Josephine, the more people we have the better. From there we should go to the jail that Zuko broke out of. Maybe somebody saw where he went."
Everyone agreed and everyone quickly finished his or her breakfast, eager to get on with the search.
Suki's POV
A short while later, the gAang (plus Riley and minus Zuko) were en route to Josephine's house with Marley in the lead. Suki walked hand in hand with Sokka as they traveled through the already busy streets. While they were still at the restaurant Marley had explained that Josephine's house was only a short walk away and the jail from which Zuko had escaped would take about fifteen minutes by bus from there.
Suki couldn't help but admire the beautiful city around her, it was so different from anything she had seen before. She could hardly believe that only a few days ago she had been sitting on the beach at Ember Island. Thinking of Ember Island reminded her of the problems that they still had to face when...or even IF they made it home. She hoped her fellow Kyoshi warriors were doing well, with all that had been going on, even before they had been transported here, she hadn't seen them in a while, not since before she had been imprisoned on the Boiling Rock, the Fire Nation's floating prison. A shiver passed through her at the memory. Sokka turned to look at her.
"Are you okay?"
Suki squeezed his hand and smiled, "Yeah, I'm just thinking about everything that has happened these past weeks."
He nodded, "Yeah, me too. But we'll get through it because we are," He raised a fist to the air and paused for a dramatic effect. "TEAM AVATAR!"
Suki could not help but laugh at her boyfriend's childish antics.
The ringing of Marley's cell phone cut through the sound of Sokka's cheering.
"Hello?" Marley answered, she paused, listening to the voice on the other end. "Actually I was on my way over now, Mrs. Alvarez."
Worry overtook Marley's features at the woman's next words. Suki decided that whatever the lady had said it was not good.
"What do you mean she didn't come home last night?"
By now the group had stopped walking, all looking with anxious faces at their friend.
"No, she definitely left, and I'm positive that she made it out of the building." She paused a moment, "I'll let you know if I hear from her. Thanks for letting me know."
She hung up the phone.
"What happened?" Toph asked.
Marley turned to face the group, a frown replacing the smile that had been on her face only moments before.
"Josephine has gone missing."
