Chapter 9
I'm taken aback by Dean's words. No one I've hunted with before has ever offered me anything like that. It was always meet up, research, kill and maim, and go our separate ways. No matter how badly the others turned out.
Furthermore, these two helped to fix me up. I was being completely honest with Sam when I said that no one had ever stitched me up after I got the worst side in a fight. That broken arm bit was the one time anyone seemed remotely worried about me. I was always forced to take care of injuries myself, and my needlepoint skills are far from acceptable. But I can't just assume that everything will be okay if I agree to this plan.
"If I stay with you... and that is a big 'if'," I start, "What exactly would I be doing with you?"
"Mostly research, but if you claim that you're up for action and we decide that you are... you can come with us to kill something. Try to redeem yourself or whatever," Dean explains.
"Redeem myself, huh?" I nod my head slowly, sending signals to Dean that what he has just said was entirely unwelcome. "And what, pray tell, do I have to redeem myself for?"
"Oh come on, kid, you were awful with that werewolf! You misjudged his strength and almost got yourself killed in the process!"
"You act as though you've never messed up during a hunt before!" throwing my right hand in the air and tugging on my stitches a bit. I have never come across a more insulting person in my entire life and I would get in a boxing ring with him right now if I were feeling one hundred percent. Nevertheless, I stand up and begin walking towards him with a slight limp, looking and sounding as threatening as I can in my state. "Are you a perfect hunter, Dean?" It's a rhetoric question and I don't expect him to actually answer.
He just looks at me and catches his breath. His eyes are full of pain and regret. He looks away from me and back at Sam, who looks just about ready to step in between the two of us.
"No," Dean responds quietly, glancing back at me. "No, I'm not."
"You're damn right," I say just as silently. "So let's stop pretending that one of us is better than the other."
I take a deep breath before stating my decision. "I'll stay with you, 'kay?" Oh Jesus, what am I doing? "If it makes you feel better. But the minute I take out these stitches, I'm leaving. Doesn't matter where we are, I'll jump out of your moving car if I have to. And if I ever see you two again, it better be for a damn good reason. Got it?"
Sam and Dean look at each other once more - I swear to GOD I'll shoot someone if I see them doing that again - and look back at me, nodding once. "You better go grab your stuff from your room," says Sam. I push myself between the guys and head to my room to get a hold of my belongings. I have a feeling I'll be staying with Same and Dean for a little longer than what I'm thinking...
So yeah... that's that. Never really went in the direction I had planned, but that's life I suppose.
I currently have another story in the works but I don't trust myself to post it until I have the whole thing finished. It's a Marvel universe thingie, also featuring an OC. So keep an eye out for that.
Thanks to all you guys for reading, following, and favoriting. Especially with my horrid timekeeping. Love you all.
