Chapter 10: Christmas Party
"This is so cheesy,"
"No, it isn't,"
"It's not even Christmas yet,"
"So?" Randy whispered and elbowed Kace. It was all the Nomicon's idea, a Christmas themed Rave. It seemed like a good idea to Randy, but no to Kace. He hated the idea of remixed Christmas music; Kace loved everything to do with Christmas except the music. Well, I guess I can relate, Randy thought, it gets sort of old after a while when you hear the same 15 songs but in different styles.
But, the Nomicon did a phenomenal job decorating, like they always do. This time the room was below a street lamp in the city; Randy didn't know how these locations ever came up or how Nomicon knew about them. Randy really didn't want to know what the Nomicon did in their free time.
But the Nomicon put big red, sparkly bows wrapped around each speaker in the room. A big wreath hung behind him that had multicolored lights wrapped around it. Huge bulbs of every color hung from the ceiling and glows their desired color. There even was a snack table filled with cookies and glasses of milk that magically refilled. Fake presents were placed around every corner of the room, towering above everyone. Even Bash Johnston brought his own special touch to the Rave, mistletoe that hung from above the entrance so everyone had to kiss him. Nomicon even made some special adjustments to Randy's suit; a big fuzzy Christmas sweater that had a pine tree on it that had little light up Christmas lights wrapped around the tree. Kace even had a special outfit; his face was covered in elfish face paint and his purple hair was covered with an elf hat, his entire outfit was elf related. Every time he would try and take off his make-up or hat, one of the Nomicon's ribbons would put it back on.
Every now and then, Randy would see Howard at the snack table shoving cookies in his mouth then darting back behind stage to eat the rest of his payments. Randy would always laugh when his friend would trip and fall with his stash of cookies falling out of arms when he was running to get back behind stage. As Randy started to play Winter Wonderland (remixed) snow started to fall from the ceiling, or at least it looked like it. But really, the bulbs that hung from the ceiling were projecting images of snowflakes around the room.
As everyone was distracted by the projected images of the flakes, a young boy walked into the room unnoticed by Bash. The boy had unnatural electric blue eyes and his black hair stuck up to right in the air. His movements were jerky, like he was fighting something inside of him. Nobody noticed when the little boy's eyes started to glow blue and scan everything around the room.
Randy noticed his goggles flashing red as all the commotion died down from the snowflakes. His goggles searched for the source of the alarm honed in on the little boy that entered the room. Randy didn't notice anything different about the boy so he ignored the flashing alarm. Randy watched as his brother but his lip and started into the crowd with a concerned look.
"Did you find something?" Randy whispered. Kace nodded and pointed in the direction of the boy that set off the goggles alarm.
"I keep seeing red over in that area it isn't very clear, it's like something is messing with my vision," Kace whispered in concern as his eyes flashed red. He soon closed his eyes and shook his head, "I keep getting this pain in the back of my head whenever I switch visions."
"I got and alarm too in that same area. Can you go check it out?" Randy motioned towards the corner of the room.
"Only if I get your dessert for the next three months," Kace smirked evilly. Randy scowled at Kace and waved him off.
"Dude no! Just go check it out, it's probably nothing," Randy shrugged. Kace growled at Randy and went to check out the situation.
As Kace walked towards the mysterious area, he kept switching between his normal vision and protection vision. Every time he did so, he always ended up with a piercing headache. When he wasn't looking, he tripped and accidentally pushed down a person.
"Oh shit, I'm sorry. Here, lemme help," Kace held out his hand to the boy he pushed down. As the boy turned around, Kace noticed how young the boy was. "Hey, I don't think you are supposed to be here."
"Oh no," the boy ignored Kace's comment and tried to fix his hair. The spike on top of his head was flopped down in front of the boy's face; it almost looked like it was broken.
"Hey, little boy, what's your name?" Kace watched as the boy turned slowly towards him. Kace noticed that one of the boy's blue eyes was brighter than the other.
"I've been instructed to not give out my name,"
"Come on buddy. You can tell me right?" Kace patted the boy's back. He saw the boy hesitate and pull away from Kace's touch. "Your parents are stupid for not letting you tell your name."
"Yes, they are. They said I wasn't allowed to go out yet. I had to be worked on more," the boy opened and closed his hands as he talked; he was angry at his parents. "My name is Thomas."
"Well, Thomas, we need to get you home-"
"NO! I will complete my mission with their help!" the boy jerked away and watched Kace with wide eyes.
"Mission? What the fu-" Kace tired to touch Thomas again only to aggravate the boy more. Kace suddenly got the idea that the boy wasn't human and switched visions. Just as he thought, the thing that set off his brother's alarm was this boy, he was a robot.
"Thomas, come on. Let's get you out of here-"
"NO! I WILL FIND OUT THE DJ'S IDENTITY!" Thomas's eyes flashed blue and his arms turned into arm cannons that emitted a blue glow. Everyone around them shrieked and ran towards the exit.
"GO!" Kace yelled at the crowd and started pushing them towards the exit. As he was distracted, Thomas fired his cannons at Kace, pushing him to the other side of the room.
Kace rolled his neck and started to get up as the robot boy pushed on his chest with his foot. Kace felt his foot was like a million pounds on his chest and struggled to breath. The robot raised his fist as a wall of sound emitted from one of the speakers making Thomas cover his ears in pain. Kace quickly got up and unsheathed his sword as he nodded at Randy. His brother gave him thumbs up and cranked the volume up again, making Thomas scream in pain. Kace took his chance and started to build up momentum to strike. As he struck the robot, Thomas snapped out of his trance and grabbed the sword. Thomas ripped it out of Kace's hand and threw it across the room. Just as Thomas turned back to Kace, Kace punched the robot's eye and dove for his sword.
As Kace turned back around to the robot, he saw Thomas staggering aback from his blow and clutching his eye. Thomas stilled and quickly turned towards Kace. What Kace saw, he could never unseen; the innocent young boy he had bumped into had turned into a monster. The robot's left eye was now glowing red instead of blue. The imitation skin and eyeball was broke and shattered around his forehead and cheek showing the gears and metal that was on the inside. The blood from Kace's knuckle stained the robot's face and the shards of metal on the ground.
Thomas took a step towards Kace and changed his arms into cannons. Kace watched terrified at the creature he has made as Thomas' cannons charged up. The black spike that hung in front of Thomas' broken eye broke off his head and landed on the ground. Thomas shot one of his cannons at Kace, which Kace surprisingly deflected that broke his sword, and his other cannon to the ground. The blow from the cannon created a cloud of dust and debris, allowing the robot to run away. As the dust subsided from the cannon strike, Kace saw that Thomas wasn't there.
Randy came down to the floor and picked up the black spike. He pulled out a metal stick with a ball at the end of it, an antenna. Randy watched as his brother hobbled over to him and looks at the antenna.
"Your sword," Randy pointed to the broken sword that Kace was still clutching in this hand. Kace looked down at the sword and slowly released it from his hand. He hissed in pain from the punch that broke Thomas' eye. It wasn't broken, but his knuckles were bloody and scarred. Randy sighed and picked up Kace's sword gingerly.
"You can have my dessert for three months,"
