Hello lovely readers! Sorry this chapter took a few weeks. My break has been a little crazy and this chapter was stubborn and decided to be awkward in the middle of writing. Anywho, here it is! Obviously, I'm ignoring Thor 2 (even though I loved it) for the story.
After Fury's mysterious call, we ate lunch in a tense silence. I didn't know what he wanted to see me for, Loki had been acting a lot better and opening up to me again. Fury wasn't the kind to call a person to an extra meeting just to give them a thumbs up. This had to be something big.
Finally the time came. Loki and I walked to the elevators, him going down to communications and me going up to Fury's office. I felt like a kid getting sent to the principal, even though I couldn't think of anything I'd done wrong.
Maria Hill walked past me and smiled, that was a good sign, right? The door to Fury's office loomed ahead and I had to remind myself to breathe the last few steps. I collected myself and knocked. Fury's muffled voice invited me inside, and I obeyed.
"Agent Coltey, please sit."
I sat in one of the chairs in front of his desk and tried to look composed.
"As you know, the original timeline for this assignment was for you and Loki to stay on the helicarrier for one month, then move to a safehouse on land." I had forgotten that bit while trying not to go crazy sharing an apartment with the god. "However, due to delays in setting up the house and Loki's, er, stubbornness, we were unable to stick to that timeline. Fortunately, the house is now complete and Loki's progress has reached the point at which we believe the two of you are ready to move out."
Oh boy. Oh boy oh boy oh boy.
I took a deep breath and asked, "When are you planning for us to move, sir?"
"Well, this Friday marks eight weeks since Loki's arrival, so we were planning for then."
Three days. Three freaking days until I'd be really alone with the god of mischief.
Fury continued, "It really is vital that we move Loki to a more permanent location so we can establish a reliable point of communication with Asgard. It's difficult for Heimdall to maintain the connection when the helicarrier is constantly moving."
"Of course, sir. Has Loki been notified?"
"No, we thought he'd take the news better from you."
"I can speak to him this afternoon." This was going to be awkward.
"Please do," Fury responded. "On Thursday morning I'll have a meeting with both of you to explain the details of moving off the helicarrier. Unless you have any questions, you are free to go now."
"No, sir." I stood up and started to leave.
"Oh, one more thing, Agent Coltey." Fury's voice brought me to a halt.
"Yes, sir?"
"Good luck."
"Thank you, sir."

On my way back to the apartment I started planning how to tell Loki we were moving out. This was definitely the strangest conversation I'd ever had. Awkward breakups, confrontations, and meeting parents were expected in anyone's life, but how many people had ever explained to an exiled Norse god that they were going to move into a house together?
We'd been sharing an apartment on the helicarrier for almost two months, but for some reason sharing a house seemed much scarier. More like a relationship or something. Plus there were other people on the helicarrier. Granted, I didn't see them much, but they were there if I needed to just be around people. Soon it would just be Loki and I. Hopefully we'd be close enough to a town that I could go visit occasionally. I knew there was no chance of us actually living in town. Loki was too recognizable, even a few years after he attacked New York.
I flopped onto the couch and tried to plan the least awkward speech possible. At least I had a while to figure this out. Loki wouldn't get back for at least half an hour.

Loki walked into the apartment and sat in the armchair that had become his usual seat.
I sat up and gave him a serious look. "We need to talk."
"What about?" he asked nonchalantly.
"Fury gave me some... news to share with you at my meeting today." Loki looked up as I paused. I took it as an indication that he was paying attention and continued, preparing for his reaction. "On Friday, we'll be moving out of the helicarrier and into a house on land."
"Okay."
"I know it'll be kind of weird, but Fury said that it'll make it easier for Heimda- wait. Did you say 'okay?'" I was expecting at least a little resistance from him.
"Yes. Why would I object to this? It's not as if I have a choice in the matter."
That was true. I was still a little surprised he hadn't come up with some argument against it anyway. "I know, but... you know it's going to be just us, right?"
"Yes. Your point is?"
"Well... I just thought you'd protest a little bit more."
"It would be useless." He stood up and walked to his room. When he got to the doorway, he paused and turned around. "And as Midgardians go, you're not bad company." He entered the room and closed the door behind him, leaving me alone in the living room wondering how on earth that conversation had gone so smoothly.
Wait. Was that supposed to be a compliment?
Why was I smiling?!
"Ta-da." ;)
I haven't set in stone where they're moving, so if you have any ideas tell me!
Please follow, favorite, and review! I LOVE hearing from you guys!
I've been forgetting this, but I don't own Marvel or any of its characters or large flying government agency vehicles. If I did I would have met Tom Hiddleston by now.
