Casual Observations 10

"I'm glad to see you think your wife needs help in cleaning up, but I can guarantee you, Mr. Stetson, that I have been washing myself for years. I got this." Jordan purred as Matt's soapy fingers ran over her back.

"Then I think I will just ask you, what possessed us to get married when we only met last night? Not to mention, I rarely drink to the point where I cannot remember the night before." Matthews's hands never stopped their exploration of her body while he talked to her.

Jordan tried to concentrate on his inquires unfortunately as his fingers explored her body she couldn't think. Turning the tables on him she turned and began her own exploration. "Screw it; we can talk later, Mrs. Stetson." Matthew responded.

"Those were my exact thoughts, Mr. Stetson." Jordan said before her lips met his.

David walked into the room and went to sit next to Jennie and the baby as Lee and Amanda proceeded to be tackled by their other grandchildren.

"Whoa, slow down. It isn't like you monkeys aren't spending the night tonight with us." Lee said as he observed Jennie and Davis as he spoke to his grandchildren.

"They seem excited, almost as much as I am." Katie said as she leaned up to give Lee and Amanda a hug and kiss.

"Well, Jennie is there any news on when you will get to leave?" Amanda asked.

"Mom, they said as long as everything is okay, we both may be able to leave tomorrow afternoon."

"That is good to hear. You father and I will be able to finish her room tonight."

David sat quietly as he still felt as if he was being outed from his daughter's life, but he knew Jennie wouldn't let that happen. He knew it would be difficult to be there after what he had done to Jennie. He knew he had to prove that he would be there and that he had no intentions of ever leaving her and their daughter. Now was not the time or the place for that conversation.

Jennie watched as David bit the inside of his cheek, a habit she learned he did to calm himself when he didn't want to start a fight or continue with one. She knew what was bothering him and even though she knew she had forgiven him, she wanted him to sit and simmer about his actions for a while longer. She had seen her mother use this tactic with her father on more than one occasion. It was always amusing and it never got old.

A few minutes of everyone in the room a nurse came in and said some would have to leave. Phillip and Katie stood with Katie saying, "I think that since we were here first we will leave. Okay, troops let round up."

"I don't want to go. I want to stay with Papaw and Mamaw."

"You will be with them tonight and all weekend. We have to go get your hair cut and your brother has a dentist appointment."

"Why do I have to go to the dentist? Papaw says they are just going to fall out anyway."

"Come on or you won't be going to Papaw's tonight." Katie said as she argued with the two older children while Phillip took the youngest from his mother.

"See you two in a few hours. Love you all." Phillip kissed his mother's cheek.

"Why do we have them again all weekend?" Lee asked.

Amanda rolled her eyes saying, "You told them they needed a weekend alone and offered to take them all for the weekend."

Looking at Jennie and David Lee said, "So, what was the fight about that obviously your mother and I missed? Is it anything we can help with?"

"Daddy, David and I will work it out. He was a little concerned about the baby coming home with us and not his place with him. He thought I was daddy-blocking him."

"That is crazy; of course he is welcome to be with the baby at the house as much as he wants." Amanda said.

"Uh, Mrs. Stetson, don't take this the wrong way but I thought you hated me." David said nervously.

"No, not you, just your actions, but David I have to remember that this isn't about how I feel. Jennifer is old enough to handle this. She wants you in the baby's life, you want in her life; I don't see where anyone would stop you. I just need you to be more open and honest as much as you can with your job where Jennifer and the baby are concerned. She knows what need to know means and she understands better than most would about a no contact assignment."

Lee and Amanda stayed for a couple of hours and then made their own exit to give Jennie and David some privacy with their new daughter. Amanda let Jennie know that she brought a baby bag if she needed it.

When they arrived home Lee saw the machine blinking and that they had two messages. He hit the button and first listen to Matt say he would try later to get them he had something very important to discuss with both of them. The second was short, sweet, and to the point from Jamie, "What the hell do you mean Jennie and David have a baby together? We are on our way home, see you all in two days."

Amanda looked at Lee and said, "Well, let's hope he doesn't kill this one."

"I hope he doesn't either, we can't look the other way twice." Lee placed his arms around his wife and held her.

Lee was sitting and listening, not really watching the news, when the house phone rang. He picked up the kitchen extension just as Amanda had picked up the bedroom extension at the same time.

"Wow, I didn't know I would get you both in stereo when I called back." Matthew said to his parents.

"Matt, honey, it is great to finally hear from you. How is school?"

"Um, school, uh it is great. I love England, even more than I did growing up. There is so much history here and the musicians here, wow, the range in taste. I really cannot describe it Mom."

"That's good, son. You left a pretty non descriptive message earlier. Is everything going okay?"

"Well, Dad, I had a reason for avoiding all of your calls here lately. I was helping a friend of yours out from MI-6. He needed help with some gun runners that were recruiting college age men. I fit the profile and since you told them to keep an eye on me every now and then he thought this was the best way to watch me and get the runners. The night you called about Jennie, I was at the meet, just about the time the bust was happening. That is what I meant when I said I was in the middle of something when you called."

Lee was silent as Amanda asked, "Do you work for them now?"

"No, as far as I know it was just a one-time gig. I am still a musician, but I get it now, Dad. I understand more."

"You understand what more Matt?" Lee asked, holding his temper in check that one of his friends would put his son in danger and not let him even know about it.

"The rush, the feeling you got after a case. The smile on your face for days after a case was done. I always thought it was because you got more time with Jennie and me, but now I understand why you two loved this so much. You had that feeling of really making a difference. I felt that too."

"You better be careful, feeling like that usually only come in two forms, job satisfaction and marital satisfaction." Lee said as him and Amanda shared a laugh.

"Uh, well, that is another reason I called. I need your help with something. I think I got married that night. Can you come help me, please?"
