Christmas Special - Merry Christmas, Baby
"I can't believe you're out of town," I stated to the phone as I continued to chop vegetables, as per brother dearest's instructions.
"I know, I'm sorry," Sakura's voice replied softly, guiltily.
"Nothing to apologize for," I said. And it was true. It's not as if she could control when her family reunions were held.
"But still," she insisted. As stubborn as ever. I closed my eyes, savoring the sound of her voice, seeing as though for the next couple of weeks, I wouldn't be able to hold her. Much as I didn't want to admit it, I missed her.
Suddenly, a distinct pain on my hand registered. "Fuck," I cursed, looking down at the finger I just accidentally cut.
I was cutting vegetables with my eyes closed.
Fucking genius.
"What happened?" Sakura asked, panicked.
"Nothing," I told her, walking over to the sink to wash the wound. "I just sliced my finger."
"How deep is the cut?" I could almost hear her brain working into overdrive as she thought of instructions on how to fix the wound.
"I'm not sure how to answer that," I replied.
"Do you think it needs stitches?" she asked.
"I don't think so," Honestly, I thought it did, but I wasn't sure.
"Sasuke Uchiha, don't you dare lie to me," she threatened.
How the hell does she do that? I sighed. "Okay, I'm legitimately not sure whether I need stitches or not."
"Then please go to the ER and have it checked. Please," she begged. "I'll worry if you don't."
Damn this woman and her ability to make me do things. "Fine," I huffed. "I'll go call Itachi first. There's no way I can drive to the hospital with this hand without getting an infection on it."
"Okay," she said. "Call me when you're out, please?"
"Yes, beautiful," I said. "Now, calm down, okay?"
"Mmm," she hummed vaguely before putting down the call.
"Itachi!" I called around the apartment. "Bring me to the hospital, Sakura wants me to get my hand checked."
"On Christmas Eve?!" he shouted back just before going out of his room. He saw my hand and grabbed his keys. "Well, looks like you'll be spending your Christmas Eve getting stitches, little brother."
So it did need stitches after all. Sakura Haruno to the rescue once more.
"Hey, Itachi," I started. We just left the ER, my finger wrapped up in a bandage with stitches.
"What?" he asked from the driver's side.
"Think you can drive me to Suna City?"
Sakura's P.O.V.
This was boring. I loved my family, don't get wrong. However, it was the same questions and statements over and over again.
"Do you have a boyfriend yet?"
"Oh, you gained weight! You need to lose more over the year."
"You've grown so big now!"
"How old are you now?"
And so on, and so forth.
I glanced at my phone again for the umpteenth time, wondering why my boyfriend hasn't called me yet. It's been seven hours since I told him to go to the hospital, I took a nap at my grandma's house and everything, he should have been out ages ago. And he said he would call, he never went back on his word. Did something happen?
Oh God, I was overthinking way too much again. Maybe his phone just died. Or maybe he doesn't have signal. Yeah.
Calm down, Sakura.
A tapping of a microphone caught my attention. "May I please have everyone's attention?" the emcee of the reunion said. "We have a very special performance for everyone tonight, and we hope you all enjoy it." He stepped down from the stage and the lights dimmed. The performers still haven't shown themselves
Polite clapping was heard before we all the guitar playing. I smiled in relief. Whoever was playing knew how to play properly, at least.
Then the vocalist came in.
Oh winter, winter couldn't come quicker.
Hope she got the card that I sent her,
A free ticket to my doorstep.
I'm a worried man, no I haven't slept.
I'm writing her and mister Santa Claus,
Hoping he could maybe make some calls,
'Cause she's out of this world, bring it back to me.
'Cause it's Christmas and this is where she needs to be.
I choked on my own spit. I knew that voice anywhere. The curtains were starting to lift.
Merry christmas, baby.
The only thing on my wishlist, maybe.
You would come back home to me,
And we could walk the streets
And they could hear us sing.
Merry Christmas, darling.
Look at us, you can watch us fall
In love again, 'cause it's the season
For us to be together, us to be together again.
Sasuke's eyes caught mine instantly, and the smile and little wink he sent me set all the butterflies in my stomach.
Together again.
Itachi, who was the one playing the guitar, came forward; the two brothers started going back and forth with each other.
By the fire with some mistletoe,
Change quick into my Christmas robe.
Take a walk and we could watch the lights,
I'm not cold when you're by my side.
The sleigh bells on my roof keep me up all
Night, but it doesn't mean a
Thing, unless you're here to see it,
It just means Santa's here for Christmas.
Merry Christmas, baby.
The only thing on my wishlist, maybe.
You would come back home to me,
And we could walk the streets
And they could hear us sing.
Merry Christmas, darling.
Look at us, you can watch us fall
In love again, 'cause it's the season
For us to be together, us to be together again.
We've got some time alone tonight, it's just us two.
It got a little lonely sometimes,
Then the rest the year's with you.
We've got some time alone, yeah, tonight it's just us two.
You got to be lonely sometime,
And then the rest the year's with you.
Everybody!
Sasuke started walking down the stage, everyone in the audience singing. He made a beeline towards me, a white rose in his bandaged hand.
Merry Christmas, baby.
The only thing on my wishlist, maybe.
You would come back home to me,
And we could walk the streets
And they could hear us sing.
Merry Christmas, darling.
Look at us, you can watch us fall
In love again, 'cause it's the season
For us to be together, us to be together again.
He handed me the rose, him grinning as my entire family erupted with applause. "Hi, beautiful,"
"Hi," I breathed. "When did you decide to go here?" Suna was, at least, five hours away from Konoha.
"About," he checked his watch. "Five hours ago, about to be six hours ago."
"Why? I mean, how's your hand? Shouldn't you be at home with Itachi? I-"
"Whoa," he placed his hand over my mouth. "Breathe, Sakura, breathe."
I did as he told and raised a brow once he removed his hand. "Well?"
He shrugged and dragged me over to the balcony across the room and closed the door behind us. It was cold outside, I rubbed my arms over my coat to keep warm. "My hand did, in fact, need stitches," he stated. "Itachi and I don't have a set routine for Christmas, so we decided to do this. As for why, well..." He reached for me and pulled me close to him, his body instantly warming mine up. He nuzzled my hair in the most adorable way. "I missed you, and I wanted to see you."
Cutie-pie.
Instead of pointing that out to him though, I touched his cheeks with my palms. "I missed you too."
Inside, we could hear my family counting down.
"Five."
"Hey, shouldn't we kiss at midnight?" he asked.
"Four."
"That's only for New Year's," I replied.
"Three."
"We can bend the rules, right?"
"Two."
"Oh, why not?" I grinned and he laughed.
"One."
"Merry Christmas, beautiful,"
"Merry Christmas, babe," I breathed.
"Zero! Merry Christmas!"
And, though there weren't any fireworks in the background, a kiss with Sasuke Uchiha on Christmas suited me perfectly.
