Chapter 8: Date
Going on a date with Shinichi was more than what Kaito asked for, even though he wasn't the one who initiated the dating part or did he confessed to the very oblivious blue-eyed teen beside him.
Breathing a sigh, Kaito shyly glanced at the boy beside him. Shinichi was wearing the clothes his mother forced on him. A casual leather jacket over his plain white t-shirt matched with a pair of washed-out jeans that barely hung on his hips and a pair of converse. The whole look made him absolutely delectable. It's a wonder how Yukiko always seems to know what suits her baby boy the most.
But one gesture from Shinichi showed how much he felt uncomfortable with whatever he was wearing. Unconsciously, Shinichi lowered the neckline of his t-shirt and absently scratch the itch that had been there ever since his mom made him wore that. The gesture made Kaito hitched a breath, his face turning a beautiful scarlet. Kaito immediately turned his head away from his partner, hoping the younger teen didn't realize his very very flushed face.
A few meters behind them, five shadowed figures peeked out from behind a tree and continue their mission to spy on the two unaware teens.
…
The short walk to the cinema was pretty uneventful except for Kaito's internal turmoil about his partner for the date and the said partner's oblivious very-seducing-body-gestures. But unknown to Kaito, Shinichi was deeply into his own world of thought as well.
Shinichi was unsure of Kaito's feelings towards himself. He knew the God of Luck might have a bit feeling towards him based on his more than usual touchy feeling and their almost-kiss earlier that day. Kaito was also unusually possessive and protective over him, even when they were still gods.
…
It was yet again another sunny day in the Realm. Then again, the Realm was blessed with abundant sunlight, stars and cloudless days, making the whole Realm as cheery as possible, something that Toichi was proud of.
The teen God of Luck was running across the Royal Garden, to his childhood friend who was sleeping on the lap of the Goddess of Wind, his attendant.
The sight was like Kazuha, the God of Art's work of art. It was breathtaking. Shinichi's soft dark locks were gently swaying with the wind conjured by Aoko. His peaceful features complement his ivory porcelain skin, making the teen god looked angelic.
Kaito felt a pang in his heart when he saw how peaceful Shinichi was on Aoko's lap. He knew he was jealous of Aoko but he didn't know why. Stomping the bubbly jealousy down, Kaito jumped onto the sleeping god, successfully waking him up.
Shinichi woke up with a pout. He was having a nice sleep before Kaito decided to wake him up in the most unconventional way.
"Kai..what are you doing?" Shinichi said with a grouch.
"Waking you up, of course! Come one! Let's not waste the time sleeping away!" Kaito leaned forward to pull Shinichi to his feet but was stopped by Aoko.
Glaring at the God of Luck, the short tempered God of Wind said, "Kaito. Let Shinichi sleep. He's been up all night!"
"Then he can sleep on my lap!" Kaito was determined to have his Shinichi back, one way or another. He had no idea why he was so possessive over the younger god but that didn't mean he was okay with Shinichi being so intimate with gods or goddess other than him and their parents.
"Why?" Two voices said at once.
"Errr…" Well, Kaito couldn't say he didn't like Shinichi being so close with other people, could he? "Because my lap is more comfortable than Ahoko's over there?"
"Bullshit. Just tell me why?" Shinichi was never one who was to be lied so easily.
"Ka. ! Do. Not. Call. Me. That!" A gust of strong wind flew past, almost knocking Kaito off his feet.
"Well, okay fine! Because I don't like Shinich being close to Aoko! Happy?"
Shinichi was shocked. He didn't know the other god was so possessive and he wondered why. Aoko, on the other hand, burst out laughing until she was rolling on the floor, clutching her stomach as she laughed, all the while ignoring the strange looks given to her.
As soon as Aoko stopped laughing and had gathered herself, she stood up, brushing imaginary dirt off her dress and would gladly leave Shinichi to Kaito. But as she was about to leave, a blurred figure ran past her and tackled her young charge onto the ground.
"Shinichi! You bastard never did visit me while I was gone to the Underworld! I was waiting for you to guide me through the whole hell thing. Oh! And one of the ghoul thing bit me! Man their bite was no kidding man! It hurts like hell and ooh! Did I men-"
Heiji was babbling about his experience at the Underworld until he felt that he was lifted up and away from his friend. He knew who it was but messing around with both the gods were far too appealing than his own safety.
"Oh Kaito, would you put me down for a minute, I haven't give Shinichi his usual welcome kiss!" Heiji was none too happy to blurt this out, knowing that it would draw some interesting reaction from all the three god and goddess.
True to his deduction, Aoko was laughing uncontrollably on the floor clutching her stomach while Shinichi was blushing furiously and fidgeting beside his laughing attendant. Kaito, however, had both the best and the worst reaction ever.
First, the God of Luck was flushed red with anger and was shaking uncontrollably though Shinichi didn't notice this. Heiji knew Aoko noticed Kaito's reaction if her continued banging the floor with her hands while laughing was any indication. Then, Heiji felt that he was lifted again but before he could say anything, the God of Weaponry was thrown to the ground, bottom first.
"You get your kissing germs away from Shin-chan!" An enraged Kaito shouted.
Heiji rubbed his bottom and stood up, "Geez, I was just joking! I never did kiss Shinichi before even on the cheek! All we did is hug and that's the most he'll accept."
Shinichi was still blushing and was now determined to ignore the presence of both the gods though he was exasperated at his still-laughing attendant.
"Hug?! Oh no! I forbid you to touch Shin-chan!" Kaito moved slightly towards Shinichi, shielding the oblivious god from the dark-skinned god.
"What the? Ooi! You possessive bastard! What are you jealous of?"
"Shinichi is mine!"
...
Shinichi never understood what Kaito meant by that. Neither did he know the reason behind Kaito's possessiveness. It bugged him tremendously but if Kaito decided to keep it to himself, Shinichi wasn't one who'll pry the secret off him.
Even though he was slightly happy about Kaito's statement during that time, he won't admit it even when someone gave him all the first edition of Sherlock Holmes novels.
But Kaito's answer towards Yukiko's blunt question was just a mere maybe.
Why did that answer makes his heart clenched tightly? It was as though he didn't like the answer. But why?
Did he like Kaito like the way his mother phrased it? Shinichi wasn't sure. He knew he enjoyed the other god's company and his laughs were very contagious. Shinichi loved being with the god but is there any other intimate feelings towards Kaito?
…
Being Yukiko as she is, Shinichi was sure the former actress would have settle everything about their 'date'. So when they reached the theater and was ushered into a hall with only couple seats available, Shinichi was not surprised.
Delighted to have the excuse to snuggle closer to Shinichi, Kaito happily snaked his hands around Shinichi's waist and pulled the younger boy closer, earning a whispered yelp and a glare from him.
Chuckling to himself, Kaito divert his attention back to the movie showing, all the while tightening his grip as opposed to Shinichi's attempts in squirming his way out of Kaito's grip.
Since the magician was stronger and had had enough of unwarranted squirming from Shinichi's side, he pulled the younger boy's wrist and leaned over his ear.
"Shin-chan, if you don't stop squirming, I won't be able to control myself." That successfully stopped any further actions from Shinichi though the blue-eyed teen didn't stop pushing Kaito away with both his hands on Kaito's muscular chest.
Shinichi was now blushing like a ripe tomato at Kaito's husky voice near his ear. The toned chest under his palm wasn't helping the situation either but Shinichi couldn't seem to get his hands off the chest. He might as well try to push the messy-haired teen from his further advance all the while keeping his palms on his chest. Not that the magician will know his hidden desire.
However, pushing the magician away with just two hands on his chest didn't seem to work and was even encouraging the magician to scoot closer to him until their body almost glued together. In his final attempt, Shinichi huffed and pushed the magician with all the strength he conjured.
He succeeded but Kaito was quick to recover.
Kaito never liked his advances rejected especially when he knew the object of his affection liked him back, even though the said object wasn't aware of his feelings towards him.
So when Shinichi pushed him away, he grabbed both the younger teen's wrist and pulled him back onto his lap and circled his arm at the boy's lean waist to trap him there. He knew Shinichi would start squirming again but now, he had a way to stop him.
Leaning down onto the boy on his lap, Kaito captured his lips with his own, tasting a faint coffee flavor mixed with something sweet and cherry-liked. Hmmm..He never know the detective tasted so…sweet. It was intoxicating.
Sure enough, Shinichi stopped squirming and had melted under the kiss.
This kiss left Shinichi dazed for a while before he scowled at Kaito who merely went back to watch the cheesy romantic movie his mother picked for them. He pouted and huffed at his predicament and tried his hardest to get off Kaito's lap but to no avail.
Thus, Shinichi was left trapped in Kaito's arm and on his lap with nothing to do except to think back about Kaito's kiss.
It was...nice, Shinichi mused. He didn't rejectbthe feeling and had now come in terms with his feelings towards the magician.
So, I like him? It wasn't as shocking as he thought it would be. Maybe it was because he unconciously attractedvto Kaito since they were gods but it took him almost forever to realizenit.
Well, at least he felt safe and comfortable now with Kaito stroking his hair while he laid his head on his shoulder. And that was his last coherant thought before he was slowly taken away by fatigue and fall asleep on Kaitp's lap.
The whole two hours of the movie was spent with Shinichi sleeping on Kaito's lap while the other caressed and lulled the younger teen to sleep.
…
Yukiko was thrilled to see both Kaito and Shinichi contented with each other's company. Shinichi even felt safe enough to actually fall asleep on Kaito's lap.
Her son, Shinichi wasn't someone with the best of luck. So with Kaito the former God of Luck by his side, Yukiko hoped her baby boy could live a better life than all his previous reincarnations. Her baby was very very dear to her and she would be damned if she had to bury her baby boy again.
So she was extremely happy to know someone would keep Shinichi safe and nicely fed. Well, her boy was a little towards the thin side.
Besides, as a quarter Death God, Yukiko knew how much of a death-magnet Shinichi was. The former God of Star attracts death like a magnet even though she herself hated and avoided death like a plague. Irony much, both the males in her family have the blood of the Death God flowing inside them.
Thus, with King Toichi's son looking after her son, she felt relieved at least.
Then again, she did realize since they were still gods, Kaito was already very interested with Shinichi..in a romantic way though the former God of Luck didn't actually realized his feelings towards the younger boy.
It was funny to see how both of them danced around each other and Yukiko did entertained herself watching over them.
Remembering an old memory, Yukiko let herself washed away by the fond memories before she ushered all her spies back to her mansion and leave the two lovebirds alone.
...
Shinichi was sick again and Kaito had to wonder from time to time did gods like them get sick?
He had never gotten sick before but Shinichi was known to have a weak body as compared to other gods and was really unhappy about his predicament.
So, off he went to the younger god's chamber to visit his best friend.
The young God of Luck was nothing but mischief and more loud noise. He brought headaches to everyone in his palace but his poor attendant suffered the most. Shinichi had to stop him from over-pranking that stuck up attendant of his.
Poor Hakuba never had a peaceful day since he was assigned to take charge of the young prince, God of Luck. He usually starts his day with different coloured hair and ends it with a whole array of colored clothing. He was so used to pranks but was still extremely grateful when the young God of Star helped stop his daily pranks though he realized the pranks were even more crazy after the God of Star stopped it.
But that was beside the point.
Looking at the sleeping pale-skinned god, Kaito couldn't help but be mesmerized by Shinichi's looks and his peaceful expression. Absentmindedly stroking his hair, Kaito was lost in the deep blue eyes the younger god had.
Wait, eyes?
"Shi-Shin-chan! You're awake!" Jumping away from the comfortable zone beside Shinichi, Kaito stuttered.
Rubbing his eyes tiredly, Shinichi felt a foreign sense of lost which did not make sense to him. "Well, with your none too gentle stroking, I couldn't actually sleep well. That and my headache is messing with my sleep."
"So," Kaito tried a more cautious approach, "How do you feel now?"
"Awful. My head hurts and everything in this room seems to swirl."
Scooting closer towards Shinichi and had forgotten about his previous embarrassment, Kaito placed his forehead on Shinichi's forehead, "hmmmm..you did not seem to have a high temperature. Maybe we should check if anywhere else hurt?"
The close proximity made Shinichi blushed but his change of color went unnoticed by Kaito who was busy tending to Shinichi's health needs.
But Shinichi didn't seem to notice a warm hand lingered on top of his own cold hands and constantly grabbed his hands when Kaito needed assurance.
...
Kaito knew he was Lady Luck's blessed child when he was born as the God of Luck five lives before this. He knew he had exceptional luck and was determined to use this insane luck of his to counter Shinichi's insane death attraction.
Their little impromptu date went well without any dead bodies falling upon them and Kaito was determined to keep it that way until a scream rang out a few seats behind them when they were having their dinner at a diner.
Well, his luck could only get him this far whenever Shinichi was concerned.
As usual, Shinichi hurried towards the source of the scream where he saw a woman kneeled in front of a laying man. Shinichi did a quick scan on the fallen man and concluded that it was cyanide poisoning.
"No one is allowed to leave this place! Kai, call the cops." Shinichi barked out orders and had successfully control the whole situation. "Can someone please identify this person and how many people that came with him?"
It turned out that the victim was Takeshi Hidemoto, a movie director who was 41 years old and had two kids with his divorced wife. Cause of death was cyanide poisoning and the only one that went with him to the diner was his divorced wife.
Shinichi was sure the divorced wife had something to do with the murder but there was something that wasn't quite right.
The police came ten minutes later and by the time they reached, Shinichi had identify the murder and had charged the divorced wife guilty of killing her ex-husband. His food had traces of cyanide and the ex-wife had a bottle of potassium cyanide powder with her though she denied having possesion of such poison.
It was then it all clicked. Everything is too easy. There was only one suspect who had a motive to kill the victim but no sane murderer will carry their murder weapon, in this case a bottle of potassium cyanide powder on themselves. The whole thing just didn't make sense.
Then he saw two men with dark trench coat walking out of the diner. Shinichi quickly turned around to shadow the two suspicious men.
Kaito was miffed at the fact that he and Shinichi were required to be at the station for some ridiculous report. He hated paperwork and he hated his time with Shinichi was wasted away by some mere police reports. He wanted his report to be done on the spot and so did Shinichi's.
He argued a little with the police officer in charged and even had to slightly threatened the officer so that their statement will be taken on the spot without going to the station for their report,
But as soon as he turned around to tell Shinichi the good news, the younger boy was nowhere in sight.
A/N: Another long chapter! Muahahaha..I finally got this chapter down! This little baby cost me two nights sleep and yes! I finally posted it up on time. I even had to type everyhing on my tablet when I was out for a date. Gosh!
Oh! Stupid computer was being stupid and had failed on me. So back to my trusty tablet to post this up. Well, I can't let you guys wait anymore, can I?
Sorry for the late update, I had two hectic weeks of exams, assignments and events to organize. I promise the next chapter will be out in two weeks time though the next chapter will only be a filler chapter. And I'll be even more busy for at least 3 more weeks for more tests, more assignments, more events and presentations to settle!
Just realized I only have about 3-4 more chapters before I end this fic. Ooooh, I am so gonna miss this little baby.
And about this chapter, nothing much happened and I am fairly disappointed with the epicly lack of fluff in here. *stabs self* I am so failed at fluff. So...anyone guessed what's gonna happen to Shinichi in the next real chapter? Well, you'll have to wait 4 weeks for that!
Hopefully that's all for my insanely long Author's Note. Drop some reviews please!
Next up: Filler chapter 2 at 23 November 2013.
