It had been a couple days since the babies were born. Mary Ann had arrived the following day, looking like an excited worried mother. Excited for her grandbabies but worried about her baby girl.

"I'm fine Mary Ann." I explained to her as she bottle feed Elizabeth and I fed Eric.

"I've seen the news reports Maddie. I know that you two are wanted and you went through something terrible." She explained. I stared at Eric and felt the tears well up in my eyes. I knew that I couldn't blame my large amounts of crying on the pregnancy hormones. I looked up at Mary Ann.

"It was a bad mission. All of our team is gone, and they want to bring us in for questioning." I explained in few words as possible.

"I know you cant talk about it hun. But you know I am here for you." She said looking at the baby. "Obviously."

John had been swooning over the babies surprising us all. Sam… Well, Sam was being as annoying as ever. She would not leave the babies alone, and not in a cute Aunt way. She was treating them like they were science experiments, because to her they were.

Mary Ann married us yesterday. It was a small ceremony, one where it only included us and the babies.

We married under the oak tree outside of the cabin. I wore John's mother's wedding dress that I had found in storage. It was everything that John and I had wanted. This is what we had planned for, it would have been perfect if our team was with us.

It was morning, the sun was shining through the window of Johns and my room. John laid next to me slowly waking up.

"Morning sunshine." I said smiling at his face.

"Good mor-woah!" he exclaimed as he opened his eyes.

"What?" I asked his eyes widening more.

"Your hair, and your eyes." He said as he reached out to my hair. "They're bright blue, and your hair is blonde."

I looked at him confused and grabbed a piece of my hair. It was a light brown, dirty blonde when I had gone to bed, now it was beach Barbie platinum blonde. I got up out of the bed as fast as I could and walked to the bathroom. My eyes were sure enough as blue as the sky. Unnaturally blue. John walked in behind me.

"What the hell?" I asked.

"I'll get Sam." He said as he walked away.

I stared at myself in the mirror. What could have made this happen? And then like a ton of bricks hitting me, I knew what had caused this.

"C24." I muttered pulling at my hair.

"That would be my guess." Sam said as she walked in with her crutches. I looked at her reflection in the mirror.

"But how?" I asked. She walked closer touching my hair as well, looking deep in thought.

"You went through a lot of change recently." She said still thinking hard. "I think since you had the kids your body went through a stress change of sorts. Like when some people go through a lot of stress or trauma their hair sometimes goes white or grey." I nodded, it made sense.

"Guess I wont need to be dying my hair anymore." I muttered.

"Right?" Sam said smiling. "I wanted to do some tests today on the babies and you."

I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I wanted to tell her to fuck off but felt that wouldn't be appropriate.

"Um, I think Mary Ann and I were going to take them on a walk, get some fresh air."

"Oh okay, maybe tomorrow then. The more we know about C24 the more we will know if they have it and if they will turn into a monster or not." She said nonchalantly, as if she was talking about lab rats not her niece and nephew. I nodded in approval knowing if I opened my mouth something I would later regret would come out.

"I just don't understand what her deal is." I said to Mary Ann as we walked around the field with the babies in our arms.

"She's a scientist Maddie, you know what her deal is." She said as she cooed at the baby in her arms.

"I want to know everything there is about C24, hell it's in John and I and might be in these little guys." I said looking at the little baby in my arms. Eric looked so much like his father.

"Then why don't you let her work?" she asked.

"I'm not a lab rat and neither are they." I said bluntly.

"I know but you may never know." She said. "C24, you keep mentioning it.." She said.

"It's called Chromosome 24, people do not possess it but they found human like beings on mars that did. It had a different reaction with different beings. Some it would make them super human, heal faster, strength, speed. In others it made them monsters. Sam was studying it up on mars. Now that mars is gone, we are the only evidence of it left. We don't know if it is or can be passed on, but logically speaking yes, it should be." I said. "I feel like if they were going to be monsters, they already would be."

"Is that what happened to your team?" She asked. She was the only one on earth who I could talk to about this that wasn't involved in it. I was quite for a moment as a tear fell down my cheek.

"Yes." I said simply. We hadn't talked about it at all. All Mary Ann knew was that they all died. "Some turned into monsters, some died because of the monsters." Mary Ann nodded knowing I was dealing with things.

"How are you?" she asked as we turned to walk back to the cabin.

"I'm good. I'm a mom." I said in disbelief.

"That's not what I meant. And you know it." She scolded me. I looked up at the sky and thought about it.

"I don't know." I said. "I have nightmares about the whole thing and they feel so real." I felt uneasy about continuing to talk about it but I knew she would never let it go. "I watched all of them die, including John. I just don't know how to deal with it." She gave me a curious look.

"Are you depressed?" she asked.

"I wouldn't be human if I wasn't." I said.

"I think you might have PTSD. My sister had it before she… killed herself." Mary Ann said once again looking like the concerned mother.

"I don't have panic attacks though." I said.

"You've had nothing to trigger it." She said.

"I mean I'm not saying you're wrong, it is a possibility." I said as we walked up to the cabin. Sam opened the door franticly.

"We have a problem." She said worry on her face.

We walked into the house and placed the babies in their cribs. John had gotten the TV set up, a news broadcast was going across the screen. I sat next to John who was staring at the screen. Sam sat next to me and Mary Ann sat on the arm rest.

"Sargent Wilson, once friends with the two suspects, has stated that within the next week he will be going down to the Arc to investigate exactly what happened a month ago, and hopefully the whereabouts of Sargent Mahonin as well as the remaining RRTS team. The nationwide search continues for the fugitives John Grimm, Samantha Grimm, and Madison Jones." The news anchor said.

"They're reopening the Arc, they're going back up to Mars." John said under his breath.

"It's a trap." Sam said. "They're trying to draw us out."
