A Woman Scorned

Chapter 10-

The next morning, Kagome awoke to find her body entangled with Sesshoumaru's on the hard wood floors of their living room. She was disgusted. She pushed him off of her and ran to the bathroom. She had enough time to lock the door before she raced and threw up the contents of her stomach into the toilette. As she washed her mouth and face, she stared at her reflection. A large bruise was forming on the base of her cheek, along her jaw line.

She began to cry, hysterically. How could this have happened? Did this really happen? Her thoughts made no sense. They were just semi coherent questions.

Nothing would be the same after last night.

Before she had time to process her thoughts, there was a banging on the door.

"Kagome, are you okay in there?" Sesshoumaru's voice came.

"I'll be right out!" she hollered back.

She washed her face again, not wanting him to see the tears he had brought about.

What was she supposed to do after this? She didn't feel strong enough now. All of her courage and rage was now replaced with fear. Revenge on him was the last thing on her mind, she was concerned about getting away from him. Never in all of her life did she think Sesshoumaru could ever bring himself so low as to hit her. That was the only thing she was certain about.

Another incessant knock came.

"Kagome? Are you okay?" he asked again.

She took a shaky breath and then opened the door. She saw his face and nearly burst into tears. Not because she saw him as this vile creature that had replaced her husband, but because despite everything that he had done to her, she could not bring herself to hate him. She still loved him and she knew she was an idiot for this.

She forced a smile and replied, "I am fine, Sesshoumaru,"

He stared at her face, at the work his hands had done last night. He let his hands act of their own will, and move to slowly touch her newly forming bruise. She flinched as his fingers hovered above her skin. He sighed and tears formed in his eyes.

"Come, Kagome," he ordered, leading her to the living room where last night's events had taken place.

She followed wordlessly.

They sat on the pure, white couches, opposite each other. Kagome stared at the furniture, wondering what they would look like if they were stained, broken, destroyed, like she was.

"I..." Sesshoumaru began.

Kagome continued to stare at the furniture.

"I don't know what to say Kagome. I could not have been sober last night. You know that I would never in a million years-"

"I want half of your shares in your father's company."

"What?"

"You are about to ask me how you could make up for this," she raised an eyebrow as she pointed to her bruised face.

He nodded.

"You have your answer."

Sesshoumaru was confused but nodded in agreement.

"Kagome we need to speak about last night," he firmly decided.

"Speak," she replied, trying to seem nonchalant.

"Kagome... I love you. Despite the things I have done, I love you. I can't live without you or Aki and Hiro. I- I promise never to see those girls again. Just, please, please don't go."

He looked up at her from thick lashes and tear filled eyes. She had never seen him look so desperate. She breathed in deeply and composed herself. If she allowed him to affect her, she would never leave him. So instead of replying to him, she stood and walked out of the room.

Looking back over her shoulder, she whispered, "Go to work, Sesshoumaru."

She showered, dressed and got into her car, leaving Sesshoumaru in the same position on the couch.

She drove and drove until she came to the one place she had sworn she would never return: her mother's house.

She put her designer sunglasses on before leaving the car and knocking on the door.

To her surprise, a bright eyed familiar young man opened the door, clad in a Manchester United football T-shirt.

"SOUTA!" she squealed as he embraced her.

"Kagome!" he smiled.

"When did you get back from England?" she inquired.

It had been a few months since she had seen her brother. Ever since he began playing football for the famous club his schedule had been so hectic that he was reduced to visiting his hometown only four times a year.

"I only got back about two days ago. I was wondering when you were gonna come and visit your favourite little brother," he jested, ruffling her hair.

"You mean my only little brother," she rolled her eyes as she tentatively entered the house.

"Souta, who was at the door?" Kikyo's voice rang into the room.

"Come and see!" Souta hollered as he grinned down at Kagome.

Kagome could not help but grin back. Souta was so innocent and probably did not even know about her row with their sister and mother.

"Who is –" Kikyo began but stopped as she saw Kagome, dropping the plate that was in her hands.

"Kagome?" Kikyo aksed before her eyes drifted to Kagome's jaw then a knowing glint appeared in her eyes.

"Mom, I think you need to come in here, Kikyo made a mess!" Souta snickered.

"What are you two up to now?" Yuki said as she stormed into the room.

"Kagome!" Yuki exclaimed.

"Souta, go play with Inuyasha," Kikyo ordered.

"Go play with Inuyasha? What am I, ten?" Souta huffed indignantly, but left anyway, sensing the tension in the air.

"Kagome, what happened to your face?" Yuki asked as she caressed her daughter's face, happy to have her back with them.

Kagome stared at her mother and sister, dreading the words she was about to say.

Tears rolling down her face, Kagome replied to her mother.

"Sesshoumaru hit me."
