Chapter Ten- Just hoping you could give him the D
That morning I got a call from my parents. I sleepily reach around on the nightstand to find my phone, and when I grab it I tap the screen hoping to hit the answer button- without having to open my eyes and face the demonic presence of a too-bright phone screen.
"Hello? Mama?" I answer yawning—I needed my morning coffee.
"Hi Levs! How is our little baby doing?"she asks full of pep and joy too damn early in the morning.
"Uh good. I miss you guys." She coos at me.
"Awww. We miss you too and so much. We can't wait to see you next weekend." Oh yeah, every now and then my parents came into town and I could see them.
"Where's daddy?" I ask, finally opening my eyes slowly to adjust to the natural light in my room. She stays silent and then hums a small song.
"Okay well I have to go now, okay? I love you so so so much and be very good."
"Love you too, mom." I click off the phone and groan into my pillow, but remember it's Friday and smile. I put on my Friday Morning Playlist which consisted of One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, American Authors, The Kooks, and a bit of The Cab. I pick out my outfit for today—a simple light pink over-sized hoodie and black leggings—and hop into the shower.
After jumping out I quickly blow-dry my hair and put on a matching headband, pushing my bangs back and then forward for a bit of volume. I decide to go without makeup today and apply my chapstick and then slip on my Uggs (kill me, I'm a basic white girl at times). I grab my phone and slip it in my bag and then trot into the kitchen. I began the process of making myself a nice cup of coffee and turn on the morning news because it's too damn quiet.
"This morning an accident occurred on North Estei and Marray drive." I know where that is. I turn up the channel and sit on the coffee table. "Two highschool students were severely injured. It is said they attend East Fiore High." At this my attention diverts away from Pinterest and all onto the TV. "Oh? I just got a lead." She says referring to her head piece. "Names are not going to be revealed since they are minors, but we do know it was a hit and run. There is no sign of the suspect." I shake my head—scum. "Our prayers will be with the families, hoping there will be a positive outcome—and to John with the weather." I flick the TV off and grab my coffee. After drinking it and burning my tongue twice, I brush my teeth and then lock up the house, and of course head across the street to Jet's.
"I'M COMING IN, PLEASE BE DRESSED." I tease at him. I go into the kitchen and he's eating toast—it's burnt. Jet always burns his toast. "Did you see the news?" I ask him expectantly as he nods solemnly.
"Yeah. I wonder who it could be. I hope they're alright." I agree with a quick nod and then sit next to him. "Don't laugh at my burnt toast." I hold in a snicker.
"Alas, I always do." I finish my early morning crack-up fest and he sets the dish in the sink and tries to give me a kiss- but I lean back. "No go brush your teeth first." I command him laughing. He walks off to the bathroom I sit back on the spinny stool, spinning my self like I was 8 or something. After a few minutes he comes out, ready to go.
"Oh I almost forgot." He states while locking the door. Here it comes. "How was tutoring Sting and Yukino?" I groan loudly at what happened last night. Sting was actually just that stupid.
"It… it wasn't that bad." I say honestly. "It's not like he tried to attack me in my own home, because I could've thrown him out." He nods. "But I'm kind of glad I did it—it brought him and Yuki closer. And that made her happy."
"You're a great friend."
"I KNOOOOW." I say conceitedly. The rest of the walk is small talk. When we reach East Fiore High, the hall is filled with buzz about who could've been in that accident. I myself was wondering, and kept running the possibilities through my head. I reach my locker and greet an upset Milliana. "Gray, right?" she gives me a side glance.
"Maybe. Did you hear about the accident this morning?" Gray was in the accident?
"Yeah… GRAY WAS IN THE ACCIDENT?" I ask shocked. Not that I cared about him, but I mean a person I actually know got into a fatal accident. That's big news.
"NO, God no." she says defensively, I sigh with relief. "I heard it was actually Cobra and Kinana."I cover my mouth in shock. Then again that could just be a rumour, but still. The thought of it made my poor heart ache. Jet also has a solemn look on his face and we stand there silently.
"So what did Gray do?" I ask hoping she'll tell me and we can get rid of this shroud of dreariness.
"He called my house last night." I raise an eyebrow.
"How did he even get your number?" Jet asks, those were my same thoughts.
"Apparently Erza gave it to him." I forgot to mention that Erza and Milliana were actually good childhood companions. They both grew up in a bad neighborhood and according to my brunette friend Erza was like an older sister figure. These days the red-head was busy on student council and arranging school events with her boyfriend Jellal Fernandez. The only reason I didn't talk to her is because she was bestfriends with Lucy. Remember? Lucy + Me = crash and burn. It was amusing how someone so serious yet friendly could be friends with someone so bitchy and careless. Also, Erza was incredibly smart and was in the running for Valedictorian alondside Yukino, Freid Justine, and Meredy Reese (who actually might get the title. She was so damn smart that she skipped junior year and became a senior this year). Lucy had the IQ of a poptart.
Anyway, I shake my head and try to hide a smile. She totally likes Gray. Let's just hope Juvia doesn't find out because if she does… I don't even want to think about it. The first bell rings and I grab my remaining books, making it to math with Milli in no time at all. I plop down at my desk and get my stuff ready for another taxing lesson—damn this math class straight to the dephths of bloody hell, please and thank you. I made sure to bring my graphic notebook, which I left home last class and the instructor chewed at me for it.
"Hey can I borrow a pencil? Milli asks searching through her bag frustratedly.
"I just gave you a pencil." She looks up at me while still searching.
"I didn't ask when you gave me a pencil silly, I asked 'Hey can I borrow a pencil." She says smartly as I roll my hazel eyes.
"Yes you may." A voice says—Gray hands Milliana a pencil and winks at her. She sneers in reply but still takes the pencil, and there is slight pink on her face. She wouldn't lose that pencil, I bet.
"OKAY CLASS!" the teacher comes in, slamming the door behind her. "OPEN YOUR BOOKS AND TURN TO PAGE 547 PLEASE." I hear Gray and Loke muttering behind us.
"I wonder when the last time this teacher got laid was…" Loke whispers.
"I know right? Total uptight spazz." I internally groan at them and open my book. I guess Gray raises his hand.
"What, ?" she asks annoyed. I glance and see him trying not to smile.
"Mrs. Siloyce, when was the last time… you got the D?" the whole class titters, and I guiltily smile.
"Excuse me?" Loke raises is hand next.
"What Gray means his, how did you get the D?" he asks with a hint of smile in his voice. The class snickers again. They were so stupid. "As in, last night Gray couldn't get the D, so he's just hoping you could give him the D." he adds cracking up as his black-haired friend scowls at him. The teacher gives us a look of suspicion and turns around—Gray and Loke fist bump.
"Well since you're all so concerned about exerscise D on last night's assignment, we'll start with that first." The whole class cracks up as I hide my face in my hands so no one can see me laughing. I can't help it—it was immature yet funny. "SILENCE, NOTHING IS FUNNY ABOUT D. GRAY, LOKE, YOU BOTH HAVE AFTERSCHOOL DETENTION BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT 'THE D' IS." She says mocking their voices. At this I can't help but laugh out loud, my face red as I beat on my desk. Idiots! I hear them groan and everyone is laughing so hard it's amazing the teacher hasn't snapped. I glance over to Milli who is also laughing, and eventually the class simmers down and it's just another boring school morning.
