A group of police men gathered around at the table, including Rick, Ed, and Macy. They were all arguing on the subject of Chief Lunar. They had been playing with them for a while now and it was starting to get on their nerves.
"We have to look after our families and Chief Lunar is making it so difficult to do so when he just keeps toying with us!" One officer said.
"Look, calm down. All we need to do is be patient." Rick said, calmly.
"But for how long? How long will these tricks last? How long until all our family is killed because him?"
"We just need to sit back and trust Chief, alright? It's the only thing we can do." Macy snapped.
Then another officer slammed his hands against the table. "My family was murdered last night and you expect me to sit here and do nothing? I've been waiting long enough and as much as I want to kill that bitch, I will not be played with in the process!" He yelled.
There was silence for a long time and then the whole room went into an uproar.
"How dare he toy with us when our families are getting killed out there?"
"What if it's my family that's next?"
"What do we do then?"
"How do we stop this murderer if we can't do anything about it?"
Ed took his gun and fired it in the air. Of course, it didn't have any bullets in it but it was almost as loud. People flinched and everyone went quiet.
"Listen! We can't let this get to us! If you really want to find this woman and make her pay for what she did then I suggest you stay but if anyone wants to leave, then leave. We will not stop you." He yelled.
There was a moment of silence for a little while and then one officer stood.
"I'm leaving. I will make my own search and find her myself. If anyone wants to join, follow me." He said.
Then he left. Then more officers stood and began leaving with him. After they left there were only two officers out of over twenty in the room with them. Ed sat down and let out a heavy breath of air.
"Chief is going to kill us." Ed said.
Rick nodded in agreement.
"Well they were cowards anyway. They deserved to leave. If they were truly loyal then they would stay." Macy said, shaking her head.
Ed and Rick both nodded.
Then Ed looked at the two people that were in front of them.
"Well, we better go tell Chief the bad news." He said.
They all nodded in agreement.
"They what?" Chief Turner yelled at the five people standing in front of him
Rick nodded. "They all left, sir."
Chief slammed his hands against his desk in anger. How dare they leave him like that?
"Not only that, they told us that they were going to make their own group to try and take her down." Ed added.
Chief sat down, his head in his hands and sighed in frustration.
He looked up that them and scowled. Then he got up and began typing things up on his computer. Then he plugged a cord into it.
"Yes?" A voice said.
"Chief Lunar. I want to know what your actual plans are. Are you trying to get rid of every single person that can help us take down these monsters?" Chief Turner yelled.
Chief Lunar laughed. "That is exactly what I wanted. Good guess."
Chief Turner balled up his fists in anger. "Why?" He practically screamed.
The voice laughed. "Don't you see my plans? Well, I guess not since you're just standing there, yelling at me like an imbecile."
"Don't you dare call me that after what you just did to our group!"
He laughed again. "How about you come an see me? This time for real. I'll explain everything when you get here. Michael will give you my information." Then the line went dead.
Chief Turner's fists were balled and his face was red with fury. They all turned as a person came into the room. He was a middle-aged man who had glasses that sat on the brim of his nose and a suit on. He smiled at them.
"Chief Lunar has very good intentions, don't misunderstand them, Chief." He said. "I'll drive you there and then tell you what room to meet him in." He said him sarcastically.
Chief looked at him, confused but Michael just turned around and walked out. Chief looked at them.
"I guess we'll have to just follow him." He said.
And that's what they did. They followed him down the hallways, outside, and into a black van. They all piled in and then made their way to the apartment. When they got there the apartment complex was bigger than they imagined. It wasn't that tall but it was pretty wide. Then the six of them followed Michael inside the complex. Rick looked back at the two people that decided to stay with them. One was a girl and the other was a guy. The girl had blond hair and sunglasses pressed against her face. She wore jeans and a black shirt that was tucked into her jeans. She looked about only in her early twenties. Rick looked over at the other guy. He had black hair and dark brown eyes that were looking around, curiously. He wore almost the same thing as the girl but his shirt wasn't tucked in. He didn't even look like he was old enough and Rick hadn't seen him around that much. He must have been new.
"So what's your guy's names?" Rick asked.
The girl looked up at him. "Gloria." She said.
"Brandon." The guy said.
Rick nodded. "Well, you should be glad you stayed with us because you actually get to meet the world's famous detective and officer." He said.
Brandon shrugged and Gloria nodded.
When they got into the place Rick looked around. It was a very long hallway with doors on each side, only a few feet away from each other. Then he stopped at the door that was labeled: "382"
Michael smiled. "I think it's funny that he gave you the right numbers but not the right address." He smirked. "It's pretty clever if you ask me. You would think that since he gave you a fake address that you wouldn't even think that it would be the same number."
A smile pulled up on Macy's face. She couldn't wait to meet him. He seemed really clever and would boost their chance to find those monsters. Michael knocked on the door. Three knocks, pause, eight knocks, pause, then two knocks. The door opened and there stood something that no one except Michael expected.
There was a teenage girl standing at the door. She smiled at them.
"Hello. My name is Jade Lunar."
They all looked at her with their mouths opened. She had long, black hair and she was wearing what looked like pajama pants and a t-shirt. She held a mug in hand and took a sip of it.
Chief's hands balled up into fists. "This is ridiculous! This better not be another one of his pranks!" He yelled.
She laughed. "Oh, of course not. You wouldn't ever believe what was right in front of your nose, Chief." She stepped aside and gestured inside the apartment. "Would you like to come in?" She asked.
They all piled into the apartment and Michael closed the door behind them. Jade sat in the recliner and took another sip of her mug.
"Would any of you like some coffee?" She asked.
Chief's face was red again. "Why do you seem so calm when there is a murderer out there?" He snapped.
Jade laughed. "Oh, please Chief. We have plenty of time. They're not going anywhere. I'll only ask one more time. Coffee?"
Gloria raised her hand. "I would like some." She said.
Chief turned and scowled at her and Gloria shrugged. "It doesn't matter. It's just coffee."
Jade nodded at Michael and he walked into the other room. Jade raised the cup to her lips and drank some of it.
"Can you just tell us your plan?" Chief snapped. Everyone could tell he was losing his patience.
Jade laughed. "So pushy, you are. Fine." She set her coffee on the table that was next to her recliner and stood.
Michael came back into the room and handed Gloria her coffee and she nodded.
Jade smiled and stood in front of them. "Alright. You are all probably surprised of my appearance." She said with a nod. "It's actually pretty simple, really. I was raised learning how to do this, learning about how to be what I am now. I toyed with you so that all the untrustworthy ones would leave and I would have all the loyal ones with me." She said with a smile on her face.
"I used to be an abandoned kid on the streets. Only five years old and no one cared. Pretty fucked up place to live, isn't it? When no one cares about a homeless little kid. Anyway, they took me in and they taught me how to do all this. They decided on me because who would expect a teenage girl to be a detective?"
They all nodded understandingly.
"Michael, here, is here to protect me just in case I get myself into a mess I can't handle. He's actually very helpful sometimes." She said, her smile getting bigger. "I really hope you understand the actions I took to get the right people with me, Turner." She said.
He nodded. "Yes, I understand now." He agreed. "But what are we going to do with this few people?"
She laughed. "Just because we have less people doesn't mean squat. We just needs the ones that aren't cowards and who aren't afraid to die and risk their lives to save everyone." She gestured to the few people they had. "And this is all that we get. This is a lesson to you all. Everyone is fucking cowards." She scowled. "I really thought there would be more than this but I guess I was wrong."
Chief looked up at her. "They left to make their own group to kill them."
She snorted. "Trust me, they won't last long with them out there."
Rick looked down at his shoes. He had gotten along with a lot of them. It was a shame to see them leave. He looked at Jade.
"Some of them are really good people, really skilled people." He said.
She looked at him. "So, you must be Rick." She said. "Like I said, Rick, they won't last long. They're cowards. Cowards will always be cowards no matter how skilled they are. They might have been your friends but they abandoned you. They're your enemies now."
Rick felt sorrow go through him. He pictured the faces of his friends, well, not friends anymore now.
Jade looked at them. "Well, you all must be tired from hearing all this news. We'll meet again tomorrow. Next time, at a different location. Can't having people get suspicious with all these cops coming in my apartment every day. Michael will tell you the next location."
Then she because ushering them out.
She gave a friendly smile. "See ya tomorrow, guys. Nice meeting you."
Then she shut the door on their faces.
Chief gave another frustrated sigh. "Alright. We should go now."
Rick followed them out. A scowl pulled on his lips. They were his enemies now.
He shook his head. He couldn't trust anyone anymore.
No one.
