The Turning Point
The sun bore through Louise's window, as she slammed her hand down on her alarm clock. She layed there for a moment not moving as she stared up at the celing. Last night was long; she tossed and turned all night. After a few moments she tossed the sheets off herself and made her way to the bathroom. She hoped into the shower, once she was done she was back in her bedroom, searching through her drawers for something to wear.
Louise pulled on a pair of black skinny jeans and paired it with a burgundy long sleeve top. She quickly brushed through her already straight hair before slipping her black converse and grabbing her back.
As she headed to the stairs, she walked past Jeremy's room. His door was ajar and what she saw mad her double take. She smiled when she saw him sitting with his sketch pad out. She couldn't remember the last time she saw him sketching, it made her happy he was getting back to his old self. Louise pulled his door closed and made her way down the stairs. She met Jenna there, who was getting ready to head out.
"Jeremy's got his sketch pad out." Louise told her .
"You're kidding?" Jenna asked baffled.
Louise shook her head. "Nope." she sighed before adding. "But don't say a word. The minute we encourage him, he'll put it away."
"Psychology major. Check that!" Jenna grinned.
Just then Elena was coming down the stairs looking at her phone.
"Still no word from Stefan?" Louise asked her. Elena looked up at her and shook her head, Louise frowned.
"What going with you and Stefan? Update?" Jenna questioned.
Elena began buttoning up her jacket as she replied, "He knows how I feel and where I stand and I know where he stands but it doesn't matter. He's leaving, moving away." she frowned.
"Where is he going?"
"I've stopped asking questions. The answers get scary." Elena admitted as the three women left and she closed the door behind them.
"Yours leaves, mine returns." Jenna stated.
"Logan?" Elena questioned.
"He's back." Jenna said as both twins groaned. "I didn't let him pass the front door."
"I hope you slammed it in his face." Louise told her.
"Ah, medium slam." Jenna replied, she wasn't proud of that.
"Three strike rule, Jenna. You're not even aloud to watch the news." she warned her aunt.
"Exactly. No more Logan "Scum" Fell." Jenna promised, touching Louise's arm. "Right, you two have a good day."
When Jenna touched her arm, Louise gasped as she was hit with a vision. A lady eyes widened as she sees Logan's eyes turn black with hunger and his fangs now out. She screams as Logan lunges for her neck. She was bought back to reality to see Elena looking at her worriedly.
"Was that a vision? What was it? Are you okay" Elena bombarded her with questions.
Louise looked around as she saw Jenna had already made it to her car. She looked back at her sister. "No." she lied. "I'm fine."
Elena eyed her, seeing right through her lies. "Why are you lying to me?"
Louise sighed before she replied, "Fine, it was a vision. But nothing to worry about." she said.
"Are you sure?"
"Yep"
Louise's phone vibrated, she pulled it out to see five missed calls and a text message from Elena that read; 'Where the hell are you? Is this about what you saw earlier?' She sighed before replying, 'I'll explain later, cover for me please.'
She put her phone away and walked up to the door, raising her hand she knocked and waited for an answer. She looked around nervously then she was snapped out her thoughts when the door opened to revealing him.
Damon Salvatore.
She didn't know who else to turn to. There was a vampire problem and the only person that popped in her head was him. Damon.
The vampire smirked seeing the brunette standing there. "To what do I owe this pleasure."
"Logan Fell is a vampire."
Damon's smirk suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a straight line as he became more serious. Quickly, he pulled her inside of the house and closed the door behind them. "How do you know that?" he questioned.
"I saw him." she told him simply.
"And you're sure it was him?" he questioned and Louise looked at him a little annoyed.
"I know what I saw, Damon. It was him." the brunette said. "Same way I saw you bite Caroline, same way I saw Logan." she reminded him.
"What are you?" the vampire looked at her curiously, narrowing his eyes.
She gave him a puzzle look. "What do you mean?
"I mean those little visions you have." he narrowed his eyes. "Are you some sort of a witch?"
Louise scoffed. "If I was, I would have probably lit your ass on fire by now." she said which earned an eye roll from Damon. "So, about Logan?"
"I'm going to find him. Fancy assisting me on a little vampire hunting mission?" he asked, flashing her a charming half smile.
Damon had given her the Gilbert compass and explain what she needed to do. After flicking in multiple directions, the arrow came to a standstill, point straight to a warehouse in front of her. Louise sighed before fetching her phone out her pocket and calling Damon. She turned her back to the warehouse. After one ring he picked up.
"The arrow stopped." she informed him. "What do I do now?"
"Just wait. I'll be there in minute."
Just then there was a light bit of wind and Damon stood behind Louise. She whirled around quickly to face him. She wasn't prepared for how close he was as she was pressed against his chest, his icy blue eyes staring down at her.
The brunette quickly looked away and stepped back a little. She tucked her hair behind her ear before she spoke. "So, he's in there." They both eyed the warehouse before the vampire turned back to Louise.
"Thank you for the help but I can take it from here." he told her and took the compass back from her. Louise ignored the tingling sensation going down her spine after their skin graze.
"I'm coming with you." she said as she went to move past him to the door but he grabbed her arm.
"That's not going to happen. You should go to school or something. Just leave." he spoke intensely, looking deep into her eyes and her chocolate brown eyes glared up at him.
"You can't compel me." she reminded him.
"I'm not compelling you."
"I'm not letting you going there alone," she began but Damon cut her off.
"Do I need to remind you that your human?" he questioned, reminding her how she could easily get hurt. "Plus I'm very much capable of taking on a newbie vampire without your help." he told her.
"I'm not leaving you, Damon."
"This could be dangerous, Louise." he said but she didn't budge as she folded her arms, he saw the determination in her eyes then sighed. He now held her by both her shoulders as he spoke, "Fine, but your staying out here. In the sunlight where I know you'll be safe." he searched her eyes to see if she would protest but after a moment she sighed and nodded her head. He let go off her and made his way to the warehouse, he broke the lock and entered.
Once the door was closed, Louise began to pace as she waited impatiently. Moments later there was sounds of gunshots, that sent panic through her whole body. Damon. Was all she thought. She didn't hesitate as she flew up the stairs and into the dark warehouse.
She turned a corner searching for him, she soon spots in on the floor clutching his bloody wounds from where he had been shot.
"Damon!" she called, when his blue eyes met with her brown eyes, they were filled with panic.
"No! Get out of here!" but she didn't listen she began to run towards him but before she got to him she was hit in the head. Everything went black as Louise fell to the floor next to Damon and Logan appeared out the shadows as Damon looked up to glare at him.
Her head was pounding as Louise finally regained consciousness, she found herself on the cool conrete floor. Her gaze caught a pair of blue eyes; ones that she recognised. "Damon," she breathed, the vampire tried to give her a reassuring smile but was more of a grimace due to the pain.
"Hello, Louise." a voice spoke and her eyes flashed to the owner to see Logan Fell. Her head started to spin but she manged to sit up and keep herself upright. "Sorry about that, under different circumstances I would be much more polite." Logan crunched down so he was eye level with the brunette. Damon growled at the vampire but he only smiled in response.
"Why am I so overly emotional?" Logan questioned. "All I can think about is my ex-girlfriend. I wanna be with her and bite her and stuff."
Hearing those words, Louise's heart stopped as she glared up at the newbie. "You better not be talking about my aunt Jenna."
"Well, you probably love her. Anything you felt before will be magnified now. You're gonna have to learn how to control that." Damon told him as Louise looked over at him.
"What about walking in the sun? I'm a morning person. You can walk in the sun which, by the way, is pretty cool." Logan said. Louise spotted Damon gaze down at his daylight ring subtly hides it with his other hand. "The council will never suspect you. That's not in the journals."
"The journals?"
"Yeah, the founding fathers, they passed down journals to their kids." Logan explained. "Come on man, you gotta tell me. How can you walk around in the sun?"
"Who turned you?" Damon questioned.
"How do you walk in the sun?"
"Who turned you?" Damon repeated, he was not going to let this go.
"You know, I've been really nice so far," Logan said trying to sound calm. Louise yelped as he yanked her by her hair and pulled her to her feet with him. "But I will kill her." Louise gripped the vampire's wrist trying to loosen his grip on her as she stared frightened at Damon.
"Kill her then you'll never know." Damon said as he pushed himself off the floor. "You're not answering my question."
Logan raised his gun and pointed it at Damon. "You first!"
"It seems we're at a bit of an impasse then, doesn't it?"
"I have things to do, people to kill." Once the words fell from Logan's mouth, Louise's eyes grew wide and her hand immediately dropped from his wrist, and he let her go. "Guess I'll be needing a little head start."
Logan fired the gun at Damon a couple of times and Damon groaned as he fell to the floor. Louise skrietched as she moved to help Damon but she was pulled back. "Ahh, no no." Logan tuts, he grabbed her face forcing her to look at him, his eyes dilated as he spoke, "You're not going to help him." Her shoulder relaxed, as she realised what he was doing and stared into the vampire's eyes. She tried her best to focus, letting him think he was compelling her. "And you'll stay right here, I'll need a snack later."
"I'll stay right here." she spoke, her voice monotoned. Logan grinned, letting her face go and with that he fled from the warehouse. Once she heard the door slam shut, Louise wasted no time in rushing to Damon's side on the floor. He groaned in pain and Louise looked at him unsure of how to help.
"What can I do?" she asked.
"Take. Them. Out." he spoke through gritted teeth.
"How?"
"Use your fingers to get them out."
She gave him a long stare before tearing her eyes away from his and down to his bloody shirt, it was already torn a little so she ripped open the shirt so she could examine the damage. She ignored his perfect tones stomach as she looked at the gushing bullet wounds. Damon watched her as she closed her eyes. She repeated a few motivational words in her head before taking in a deep breath, she put her fingers in one wound and dug around for the bullet and Damon winced at this.
"Sorry!" she exclaimed and removed the bullet.
Louise took in another deep breath and let it out slowly before she moved onto the next bullet. "You know, I wanted to be a doctor just like my dad. I mean I still do." she said as she dug around for the next bullet. "So, I guess I have to get use to this sort of stuff, you know all the blood and that. I use to get all queasy but now..." she pulled another and laughed a little. "I think I'm doing just fine."
Damon's eyes never left the brunette's face as she worked on removing the bullets. He even found himself smiling at her rambling, it distracted him from the pain a little. She looked as the last hole closed up, sighing she turned to the vampire and was surprise to see him admiring her. She gave him a small smile.
"Done."
Later at the Salvatore Boarding House, Louise stepped out the bathroom into Damon's room. She stopped at the doorway as she watched him fish through his draw for a new top with the his phone to his ear. All she could see at the moment was his back. His shoulder blades flexed under his flawless smooth skin. She was mesmerised as she admired his back. Louise was quickly pulled out her trance when Damon spoke on the phone. She went over to his bed and sat on the edge.
"Logan Fell is a vampire and when I find him again, I'm gonna destroy him limb by limb."
"What happened? Are you ok?" Stefan asked.
"No, I'm not ok." Damon answered as looked at himself in the mirror, examine the now healed wounds. "I was ambushed. I was shot. He hurt Louise and now, I'm vengeful."
"What? Is she ok?"
"A bump to the head, nothing major." he looked over at Louise. "We have to find him."
"Well, there's no need. He's here at the school." Stefan told him.
"You're kidding me. Why the hell is he there?" Damon wondered.
"He's working the crowd."
"Well, I'll be right there." Damon told him and hung up the phone. He turned around, pulling his shirt over his head and she couldn't help herself as her eyes travelled over to his toned stomach. She had to admit, Damon Salvatore had a great body. "It's rude to stare, you know Louise." He smirked as he spoke and her eyes quickly looked away from his body as she knew her face was now flushed red. Damon smirked even more at his her reaction.
Louise hoped off the bed and wondered over to him, "I'm coming with you." she told him.
"Whoa, whoa. This time you're not coming, Louise. I let you stupidly stay with me earlier and looked what happened." he shook his head. "Not again. You're staying here. I'll be more at ease know that you're here safe."
Louise was taken back at his last sentence. She stared up at him for a moment before she sighed. "Okay."
"Okay?" he asked a little surprised she didn't fight him on it. She nodded.
Time passed quickly as she waited for Damon's return, Louise heard the sounds of footsteps stomping. She quickly closed the book she was reading and hopped off the bed. When she made her way down the hallway, she bumped into someone. Her eyes widened when she was met with a pair of teary brown eyes. "Elena?"
Elena's face matched the same confused look as her sister. Louise was about to ask what was wrong but the older Gilbert pressed her finger to her lips to signal her to be quiet. She grabbed Louise's wrist and rushed them out the house.
Once they were in the car, on the road, Elena started crying. Louise who had chosen to drive looked over at the passenger seat. "Lena?" she asked concerned. "Are you going to tell me what's wrong?"
"We looked like them." Elena sobbed. "Like Katherine and Vivienne, they look like us."
Louise's eyes widened as her gaze snapped towards her. "What do you mean-"
"LOU, LOOK OUT!" Elena screamed. Louise gasped looking back at the road to see a figure. She quickly slammed her foot on the breaks but not in time as the person hit the windshield with a bang.
The girls screamed as the car tumbled over and landed on the roof. Once the car came to a halt, Louise moaned as she tried to move but her seatbelt held her in place.
"Elena..." she breathed looking over at her sister's unconscious body.
She tried moving her hand to reach over to Elena but her attention was caught, as she snapped to the right hearing the sound of bones cracking. Her eyes grew wide as the figure she had just knocked over started standing up and walking towards the car. Louise let out a scream, closing her eyes and preparing for the worst.
