I cried a lot, the day Lancia disappeared. Of course, only when I got home. I couldn't let the people in the school office see me cry, that would just be too embarrassing.
The whole Vongola Family and allies started taking action to find out where he went, if he was kidnapped, or… God forbid… dead.
At school the next day, I was completely depressed. I was starting to think that there was no hope in finding him at all and it was only the second day! We had nothing to go on and no clues about his whereabouts. No other Family claimed the kidnapping, there was no ransom letter. Zero. Zilch. Nada. We had nothing. And it was completely and utterly agonizing.
But that's when Ritsu disappeared, too.
She never came to lunch the day after Lancia disappeared. No one could find her anywhere, either.
Two of the most important people in the world to me both disappeared within a span of twenty four hours. Now, I don't know about you, but it doesn't seem like that much of a coincidence.
MTA was on lockdown by the end of lunch. No one was aloud in or out of the campus until further notice. Mey and the whole Hall Monitor Committee were crawling all over the grounds to find anything that could give us a clue to their whereabouts.
Kittie and all of my Guardians, except the ones missing of course, kept trying to keep me company and tell me that they'd turn up eventually.
But at what cost? Mental trauma to all those involved? Possible physical trauma? Maybe even an all-out war between Families?
No, I had a hunch they weren't going to turn up that easily. And thankfully, so did my dad.
It would be one thing if only Lancia was gone, but Ritsu? No. Something was definitely up. Two of the Guardian's children just go missing within a day of each other. There is no other possible way to explain it other than someone planned this atrocity.
When the lock down was called off, my dad and all the Guardians personally escorted their children out of MTA. Either we were all being targeted, as Guardian's children, or the whole Vongola itself was being targeted, and they were picking us off one by one, starting with the children.
When I got home, I cried in my parent's arms for a long time. Longer than I care to admit. Mom was crying too. Usually she'd crack a joke and tell me not to worry, but she wasn't and that scared me down to the core. Dad put on his best face and pulled everyone together. He tried being the support we needed to continue functioning as a family.
"I will take care of this," he said. "Whoever's behind the disappearances will pay dearly."
I don't know what I was expecting the next day, but it wasn't long before two more of my Guardians went missing. This time is was Ray and Ryu, two in one day.
When lunch came and no one had seen them anywhere, my dad came to get me immediately. All of my remaining Guardians were picked up as well. We were dwindling in numbers. The only ones left were Mey, Hiro and myself.
My dad ordered Mr. Hibari and Mrs. Chrome not to bring Mey to school the next day. He did the same with Hiro's parents, Mr. Ryohei and Mrs. Hana. I wasn't allowed to go to school either. Mom and Dad stayed home as well. (I don't think it's very smart. I mean, they should be at work trying to figure out who's behind this, am I right?)
Everyone was completely hysterical. All of my friends parents, as well as everyone else in the Family. A lot of the Vongola children at MTA didn't come to school, for fear of being the next to disappear.
I couldn't keep myself together at all. I was crying almost all day.
I was curled up on my couch with my mom sitting next to me. "Lancia… Everyone…" I wept. "Where'd you go?"
Mom tried to contain herself, but wasn't very good at it. It was really weird seeing her like that. I'd never seen her show any kind of vulnerability before, but I guess since Lancia was the baby of the family, it hit her hard.
It hit all of us hard, really.
What my dad couldn't fathom was the motive behind the attacks. He talked to himself a lot, trying to think of possible reasons.
"The only thing I can think of is revenge…" he said. "Why do all of this without getting some kind of sick pleasure seeing everyone broken?"
"Maybe they want us to be broken," Mom said. "Kick us while we're down?"
Dad's eyes widened in horror. "You think whoever's behind this is going to attack?"
"It's a possibility…" she said. "I mean, a lot of Families don't like us. Why not?"
I shuddered to think about a mafia war.
"But there is still the possibility that everyone taken is…" he started to say, but stopped himself before he could finish.
I burst into tears again. "Don't say that!" I cried. "Don't you ever say that! Lancia is alive. And we will find him! So don't you ever say that he died, because you'd be lying!"
"Yuni…" he said. "I'm sorry… I'm just thinking out loud-"
"How can you be thinking such things?!" I asked, horrified.
"Yuni, dear…" Mom said. "We have to think of everything-"
"Shut up!" I yelled, accidently going into Hyper Dying Will Mode. "Shut up!" I screamed with all my might and tears raced down my face. "My little brother is not dead!"
I ran upstairs and slammed my room's door. I crawled into my closet and curled up into a ball to cry, still in Hyper Dying Will Mode (HDWM).
I heard a knock on my door a couple minutes later and screamed at whoever was there to go away, but the door creaked open anyway. Angry, and now going out of HDWM, I walked out of my closet, expecting to see one or both of my parents.
But neither of them had walked into my room. I almost fell backwards in shock when I saw Livia standing in my room.
"Aww," she said. "Have you been crying?"
"How did you get in my room?" I asked.
"Oh, shut up," she said. "I think you know why I'm here."
I looked confused, I'm sure of it. Then I worked it out. "You…" I whispered. "Bring my brother back and my friends or so help you…" My voice trailed off in quiet wrath.
"What are you gonna do?" she teased. "Drown me in your tears? Puh-lease. You can't do anything to me."
"Oh yeah?" I asked, about ready to punch her in the face again.
"Yeah," she said. All of a sudden, I was thrown against the wall in my own room and she had one dagger to my throat. "Just keep quiet and disappear like the rest of your friends." She smiled creepily and said, "I hope you brought your box weapons!"
"What have you done with my friends…?" I asked in horror, fearing everyone else was gone now.
I'm the last one… I thought hopelessly.
"You're the last one, Little Miss Sunshine," she said sadistically, confirming my fears. "I think I'll have the most fun with you~" She paused for a second. "No… Lancia-darling was probably the cutest."
My lip quivered in either fear or fury, I'm not sure which one. But I couldn't take it anymore.
I screamed with all the breath in my lungs for about a second. After I bellowed out, Livia put her hands around my throat to stop me.
"Now you've done it…" she said.
All I remember was a plume of pink smoke and then suddenly I was in a different place.
~Tsuna's POV~
[Time: Right before Yuni went upstairs]
"But there is still the possibility that everyone taken is…" I started to say.
Wait… that'll just make her upset… I thought. Better not.
Yuni burst into tears. "Don't say that!" she cried, almost screaming at me. "Don't you ever say that! Lancia is alive. And we will find him! So don't you ever say that he died, because you'd be lying!"
Now I've done it…
"Yuni…" I said, trying to apologize. "I'm sorry… I'm just thinking out loud-"
"How can you be thinking such things?!" she asked, looking at me with a betrayed expression. It broke my heart to see her like that… I regretted every saying anything.
"Yuni, dear…" Ami said, trying to fix my complete screw up. "We have to think of everything-"
"Shut up!" she interrupted. Yuni was so upset that she suddenly went into Hyper Dying Will Mode, her forehead erupting in orangey-yellow flames and her eyes turning orange and yellow as well. "Shut up!" she screamed again. "My little brother is not dead!"
She ran upstairs before we could say anything else. We heard the door slam not long after.
"I shouldn't have said anything…" I said.
"Damn straight, genius," Ami said, chuckling; yet she wiped a tear from her eyes.
"Should I go up there…?" I asked.
She shook her head and said, "She needs time to calm down. I don't want there to be a war between you two."
"But she was in Hyper Dying Will Mode…"
"Exactly," she said. "A word to the wise, never tell a girl to calm down when she's obviously not calm."
I sighed and slumped onto the couch. "I'm such an idiot… Lancia and the others are alive. They have to be..."
Ami wrapped her arms around me and said unevenly, "Yeah, they must be…"
I think we both knew there was a strong possibility that they were dead, but I think it would break Ami if she accepted it.
We sat in silence for a while, not thinking of anything to say. Finally Ami spoke. "I haven't heard any bangs or thuds, so she hasn't broken anything."
"That's a good sign…" I said.
"Go up there," she said. "If she hasn't broken anything, then she's probably crying."
My heart dropped. The disappearances were definitely taking their toll on everybody, none harder than Yuni herself. I couldn't bear to think that my little girl was in pain all the time, but I couldn't do anything about it without some lead to where everyone was or who was behind it.
I got up from the couch and started walking upstairs.
That's when I heard a gut-wrenching scream. I froze solid for about a second, processing what I heard.
"Yuni…" I said desperately. I started running up the stairs as fast as I could yelling her name. "YUNI!"
I barged into her room and saw that Ami was already on floor sobbing. She must've warped in when she heard the scream.
"She's gone!" Ami cried hysterically.
Despite how much my heart shattered into a million pieces I kept my composure and slowly knelt down beside Ami. She collapsed into my arms, wailing in sorrow. A couple of tears escaped and slid down my face, but I needed to stay strong for her.
I needed to stay strong for both of us.
But I noticed there was pink smoke still lingering in the air. That's when I knew. I knew that all of Yuni's Guardians were gone, but they were still alive. At least for now… The pink smoke was unmistakable. The Ten-Year Bazooka was behind the disappearances, just like when I was their age.
Something must be happening like when my Guardians and I went to the past. I thought.
~Back to Yuni's POV~
I found myself falling into a bush and landed on my feet. I crouched down, not knowing where I was. I looked around and recognized the building a couple hundred feet away from me.
"Is that Vongola Headquarters?" I asked myself. "What am I doing here…?"
I heard some voices nearby and quickly dropped to the ground, flat on my stomach. I don't even know why, but it just seemed instinctual.
"Yeah, I heard it over here," said boy's voice.
"Do you think it's her?" said a woman.
"It has to be. She's the only one left…" the boy said.
That's when I recognized the voice of the boy.
I shot up from the dirt and ran into his arms, bursting into tears. "Lancia!" I said happily. "You're alive!"
"Onee-chan!" he said, hugging me. "I was only gone for a day…"
"It's been a week, you idiot!" I said.
"A week…?" he asked. "But this is only my second day here…"
"Oh, whatever," I said. "All that matters is that you're alive! What are you doing here? Is everyone else with you?"
"Yeah," he said. "Everyone's here. You don't need to worry."
"Then let's get home!" I said. "Everyone's waiting for us."
"It's not that simple, I'm afraid," said the woman who I just noticed was there.
I looked at her and recognized her face instantly.
"But… how…?" I asked. "You're the eighth-"
"Daniela, Vongola VIII," she said. "And you're Yuni, soon-to-be Vongola XI."
I blinked a couple times, not fully understanding where I was or what was happening.
She read the confusion on my face and said, "The year is 1924. It seems you and your friends were taken here by a tampered with Ten-Year Bazooka for unknown reasons. It's our job to figure that out."
"How do we get back?" I asked.
She sighed, but smiled at the both of us. "I have no idea, but we'll figure something out. Now, I trust you would like to see your friends? Let's go inside, shall we?"
