Chapter 10
Disclaimer: I don't own the Vampire Diaries. I'm just borrowing.
Note: Previously, in "Hunter's Moon," Damon and Elena have a steamy interlude in the basement.
Hey, guys, I know it's been a while since I last updated (the last time being October 6), but I thought I'd treat you guys to the next installment. No spoilers, just read on!
Virginia State Women's Prison – 2 Days Later...
Elena told herself to be stoic as she walked through the gates of the prison. She was here by herself today, since Damon had reluctantly agreed to go with Elijah to find out where Tyler was and to possibly get him to tell them what Silas' next move was. Although she didn't exactly like the fact that she had to talk to Katherine on her own like this, her cooperation was essential to the case. She could feel the bile in her throat begin to rise and dismissed it as part of the early stages of her pregnancy.
She gave her gun and badge to the guard and got a Visitor's pass, heading to the Visitation room, where Katherine was waiting for her, a sly smirk on her face, which Elena didn't particularly like. Of course, she told herself that she wouldn't be dealing with the bitch for much longer. At least, that's what she hoped.
"Hello, Elena, what can I do for you?"
"We recently found out that Silas has someone working with him," she replied. "I think you may be familiar with him. His name is Tyler Lockwood, who was a dedicated detective on the Special Victims Unit."
Katherine scoffed. "Please, as if I'd actually know who you're talking about. Besides, I always thought Silas was a solo performer. Why he'd suddenly have an accomplice working with him is anyone's guess."
"I don't have time for your bullshit, Katherine," said Elena. "Damon and Elijah are out looking for Tyler as we speak, so I were you, I'd think long and hard about the next words that come out of your mouth."
Katherine smirked. "My, my, Elena, you're certainly full of moxie today. Let me guess, that time of the month?"
Elena fumed at that and before she could stop herself, she slapped Katherine hard across the face and when the other brunette faced her again, there was a steady stream of blood coming out of her right nostril, after which she grabbed Katherine's wrist and twisted it behind her back with one hand, grabbing her hair hard with the other, and held her against the surface of the table. "You don't want to mess with me, you bitch! Now, either tell me what Silas and Tyler plan to do or I'll knock you on your pretty little ass faster than you can say, 'Police brutality'."
Katherine growled at that. "Careful, Elena, or they'll wonder which one of us is the real evil twin."
Elena let go of her and stepped back. To be honest, she really didn't know why she did what she did and although it felt good, at the same time, it scared her a little, mostly because she had never been like this before and hoped that being pregnant wasn't going to turn her into a monster. Exhaling deeply, she took a seat across from Katherine and for a moment, it was quiet, neither sister moving or speaking.
Finally, Elena said, "Okay, tell me what made Silas choose Tyler to help him."
Katherine rubbed her sore wrist. "Actually, it was the other way around. Silas didn't seek Tyler out, Tyler sought Silas out. It was just after Damon killed Mikael and he was looking for a way to really make his mark. So, he went to Silas and you can pretty much guess what happened from there." She smirked. "It really makes you wonder if you knew him as well as you thought you did, Elena, having been his partner on the Special Victims Unit before your temporary transfer to Homicide."
"How the hell did you know about that?"
Katherine maintained her smirk. "Isn't it obvious, Elena? I've been tracking your career from the inside. In fact, I know that Damon was once a criminal before his love for you made him break free of the hold that Klaus had on him from the time he was fifteen."
"That's bullshit, Katherine!" said Elena. "There's no way you could've known about that!"
Katherine laughed. "Oh, you'd be surprised at what I know, sister dear. I may have be stuck in this pile of shit, waiting for an early parole or maybe even a lesser sentence, but I'm not without my resources."
Elsewhere...
Damon and Elijah were downtown, having gotten intel that Tyler's last known address was a run-down apartment. While he didn't exactly like the fact that he was with him, Damon forced himself to tolerate Elijah for the sake of the mission. After all, this was only temporary and as soon as the case was solved, he'd never have to see this guy ever again.
"Are you sure that this is the place?"
Elijah nodded. "This is where the informant said Tyler was last seen."
Damon raised a skeptical eyebrow. "And you're absolutely sure that he'll tell what Silas' next move is? I'll tell you right now, FBI Guy, if this turns out to be bullshit, I won't be held responsible for my actions. Don't forget, I still don't trust you."
"Yes, I am well aware of your distrust for me, Detective," said Elijah. "And I can assure you that the information I received was accurate."
Damon was about to say something else when suddenly, he saw Tyler walking out of the building. I wonder where he's going in such a hurry?, he thought. Did he get a call from his partner? Or is he just on his way to the grocery store? Either way, he's eager to get there. "There's the son of a bitch now."
"I told you the information was accurate," said Elijah. "Let's follow him and see where he takes us."
Damon started the engine of the Camaro and followed after the white Jaguar that Tyler had climbed into. Amazingly enough, he didn't even know he was being followed. Silas must've told him that we'd be looking for him and to just act normally. Either that or he's followed enough criminals in his career as a cop to know what to do in a situation like this.
They followed Tyler several blocks until they saw him stop the car, get out and the second his eyes locked on Damon and Elijah's, he took off, making the two men get out and pursue him. The pursuit continued until they reached an alley, where Tyler found himself trapped, growling and cursing at his luck, or lack thereof.
"You might as well give up, Tyler," said Damon, his gun aimed at him. "There's nowhere for you to run, so come along quietly and you won't get shot."
Tyler wasn't intimidated by this. "You think that you've won? Silas told me that you might try something like this."
"Did he really?" said Damon. "Well, did he also tell you that we've been trying to track him down for some time now?" Before he could answer, he added, "Oh, and by the way, we found your hair on Giselle Carson's body. She was an innocent woman and she didn't deserve to die the way she did. I'll bet that if we looked hard enough, we'd find hairs on the bodies of the other people Silas had you kill for him."
Elijah then saw that Tyler pull out a gun, which he fired twice, hitting Damon in the hip and then the shoulder. Once he had done that, Elijah took out his own gun and fired. However, the bullet missed and Tyler ran off. Of course, that was trivial compared to the fact that Damon was bleeding from the wounds that he sustained. Elijah pocketed his gun and knelt down by the younger man, who gave him a stern look as he took his radio.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"I'm calling for help for you," he replied. "You're going to bleed out if I don't."
"I don't..."
"You don't trust me, I know," said Elijah. "But, you're going to have to trust me with your life right now. Now, let me help you."
Damon reluctantly nodded and Elijah smiled at him before he pressed the button and said into the walkie talkie, "I need a bus right away. Officer down, I repeat, officer down!"
Virginia State Women's Prison – Shortly After the Shooting...
Elena was just getting her badge and gun back from the security desk when one of the guards, a woman in her early forties, approached her, a grim look on her face. "Detective Gilbert?"
Elena looked at her. "Yes?"
"I got a call from an Agent Elijah Mikaelson," she replied. "He said that he and Detective Salvatore were pursuing a suspect down an alley a short while ago and there were shots fired."
Elena didn't know what to think about what she had heard. "Damon was shot? Oh my God, is he going to be okay? Where is he now?" Her eyes widened with panic. "He's not..."
"No, Detective, he's alive," said the guard. "Agent Mikaelson put in a call for a bus and they're currently at the Southside Regional Medical Center."
Elena nodded in thanks to the guard and, despite the fact that tears were now attacking her, she knew that she to go be by her husband's side. She exited the building and went out to the parking lot, climbing into her car, turning on the engine and driving away from the prison, eager to be at her husband's side.
Note: Yeah, I got this idea and I wanted to use it. Don't worry, guys, Damon is going to live, especially since he and Elena have a new baby on the way that needs to know its father. Stay tuned!
