AN: here we go chapter nine!
read, review and enjoy!
Cassie stood in the dance studio she was stretching and getting ready to do some warm ups.
She went through her ballet positions.
First, second, third, and so on. She allowed her muscle memory to take over while she felt relaxed.
She had finally warmed up and started her solo. It was the solo from the first time Klaus saw her dance.
She started dancing, she closed her eyes and let the music take over her, she immersed herself in the feelings that she called upon to dance. She turned and jumped and allowed herself to forget everything that was going on, here she was safe. Here she wasn't needed to do anything, she just danced.
She finally finished and stared at herself in the mirror.
"Still just as beautiful and breathtaking as the first time I saw it." She heard Klaus's voice behind her.
Cassie spun around.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
Klaus tilted his head and he took a step closer to her. "Do you not remember?" he asked.
Cassie walked over to the radio and turned the music off. "I'm blowing off some steam Nik, what are you doing here?" she asked again.
Klaus looked over her, she was in a sports bra and some spanks her ballet shoes and her hair in a ballerina bun. "Cassandra three days ago you were hurt" he said.
Cassie raised an eyebrow at him "hurt?" she asked.
Klaus nodded his head "I'm in your head right now" he said "I was worried that's its been so long"
"Three days?" Cassie said, "I don't remember"
Klaus nodded and decided that maybe that constantly reminding her wasn't working, Cassie clearly didn't remember it.
"So why dancing?" Klaus asked. "Why is dancing your peace."
Cassie smiled and turned to him.
"I don't know" Cassie said "I have always loved the way it can just take me over and push everything else away." Cassie went on point and did an arabesque "I'm not Cassandra Gilbert anymore I'm who I am portraying, I get lost in my role's hopes and dreams. I become a different person."
"What about when you have a partner" Klaus asked seeing the happiness that just talking about her passion brought to her.
"Picking a partner was a hard thing for me" Cassie said smiling at the memories "and it took a while for me to be able to find Skylar."
"Care to explain?" Klaus asked wanting to have a conversation with her.
Cassie smiled and walked over to the side of the room, "when I'm dancing all I can focus on is dancing" she began running towards Klaus and jumped into Klaus who reacted and held her up "I cant afford to focus on anything else"
Klaus let Cassie slip down his body "I can't focus on whether or not my partner is going to catch me." She said her voice dropping to a whisper as Klaus refused to let her go from the spot she was in. "I trust my partner to catch me with every turn and every jump. I have to trust him with everything."
"Trust is big with you" Klaus said feeling guilty at what had happened earlier.
"Trust is everything with me." Cassie said.
Klaus let go of Cassie and took a step back from her.
"Have you ever thought about us?" Klaus asked.
Cassie cocked her head to the side "all the time." She replied.
"What about it?" he asked.
Cassie took a step towards Klaus and grabbed his hand. "I worry," she whispered.
Klaus looked up into her eyes "worry?" he replied confused.
"My family is here" Cassie said "and Jeremy still has one more year in high school, which means at least another year here for me"
"Why is that cause for worry?" Klaus asked.
"Because you hate it here" Cassie said "you're miserable and you've never been one to stay in one place for long. How am I supposed to ask you to stay here for another year?"
Klaus was quiet as he looked at Cassie's face.
"Is that what you waned to talk about?" he asked her, before I opened my mouth and ruined it."
Cassie rested her forehead on his chest and Klaus wrapped his arms around her "I've been wanting to talk about it for a while" she confessed "but I'm so nervous about what you're answer will be, how this all plays out. And then we got in a fight and I just…." She trailed off.
"Do you honestly think I wouldn't stay here for you?" Klaus asked her.
"No" she replied "I know you would but how can I ask that you be miserable for another year?"
Klaus cupped her face with his hands so she would look up at him, he crashed his lips onto hers trying to get through her stubbornness that he would do anything for her. His finger slipped back into her hair and he curled them around her hair. He felt her grab at his shirt, trying to pull him closer then he already was.
Klaus broke for air as Cassie stared up him a little breathless.
"Oh" she said.
Klaus grinned down at her.
"Are you going to wake up now?" Klaus asked.
"I still don't believe you that I'm asleep," Cassie said standing up on her tiptoes to kiss him again "this feels to real"
Klaus laughed, "I promise that this is in your head" he said.
"So you're watching me while I sleep?" Cassie teased him "that's creepy."
Klaus leaned his forehead on hers "you have to wake up" he begged "I gave you vampire blood and any longer in this coma it increases his your chance of becoming a vampire."
"How do I do it?" Cassie asked, "How do I just wake up?"
"Close your eyes" Klaus said. Cassie did and she could feel Klaus step away from her "now open"
Cassie opened her eyes; she was lying on the couch in the living room of her home.
"Cassandra?" she heard Nik's voice.
Cassie turned her head to face him "Nik?" she asked.
Klaus helped her sit up as she looked around the destroyed first floor of the house.
"Did Kol?" she asked looking up at Klaus.
"He's safe" Klaus reassured her.
"Jeremy" Cassie said trying to get off of the couch, she pushed off of the couch but gave a yelp as she put pressure on her shoulder.
"Cassandra" Klaus said scooping her up and putting her back onto the couch. "You have to be careful, you were stabbed with the white oak stake, now I healed you with my blood but because you were injured with that stake it didn't heal properly."
"But Jeremy" Cassie said, "He is"
"Safe" Klaus said, "Your sister and the Salvatore's gathered everyone and they are headed to go get him and the witch"
Cassie rested her head on his shoulder "so I'm just suppose to sit here while everyone is out there risking themselves?"
Klaus kissed the top of her head "no, you're suppose to get better and figure out what you're going to do because our brothers destroyed the downstairs of this house."
Cassie laughed and lifted her head up, she gave Klaus a chaste kiss on the lips, and "first I should probably let everyone know that I'm alive."
"I guess or you could wait a few more hours," Klaus said as he leaned over her body slowly pushing her back towards the couch.
"I thought you said I had to be careful" Cassie teased him as he hovered over her body.
Klaus bent down and kissed her neck "I can be careful" he whispered his breath hitting Cassie's skin. Klaus bent back down to kiss her neck.
Cassie arched her back as one of Klaus's hands slid down her side. She could feel him slowly pushing the shirt up to reveal her skin.
"Put your clothes back on!" Caroline yelled from the front door.
Klaus looked up and Cassie tilted her head up to see Caroline walk into the front room her eyes covered by one of her hands. "Ok, I'm going to take my hand off of my eyes please don't be naked" she yelled again.
Cassie chuckled as Klaus groaned. He jumped off of her and helped her to her feet.
"You're good Caroline" Cassie informed the young blonde, Caroline peeked through her fingers before dropping her hand completely, she smiled and launched herself at Cassie.
Had Cassie not had the years of dance experience or an immortal hybrid behind her she would had fallen at Caroline's sudden hug attack.
"I'm so glad you are ok" Caroline squealed.
"Ok, Caroline" Cassie said hugging her back "I love you and all but shoulder"
"Sorry" Caroline said, "So I'm here to ease your OCD mind with updates" she smiled at Cassie and Klaus.
Klaus wrapped his arms around Cassie's waist, he felt her stiffen for a beat but then she relaxed into him as Caroline launched into what was going on.
"So they have divided up into two groups." Caroline said walking over to the kitchen and grabbing a glass that wasn't broken, so she could fill it up with water.
"Team one, is going to get Jeremy," she said handing the glass to Cassie.
Cassie smiled and took a sip of the water.
"Who is on that team?" Cassie asked.
"Damon" Caroline began "Elena, Rebecca, and I think Katherine,"
Klaus chuckled "that is a team that I wouldn't want to get angry"
"Well team two is get Bonnie back," Caroline said.
"And those members" Cassie asked. "Elijah, Vaughn, Daniel, Stefan, and Kol"
Cassie smiled at hearing that her family (both her blood and the originals, who she now included in her family) and her friends are seeing that how much this means to her.
"See" Klaus said kissing her head "everything is going to be fine"
Caroline nodded her agreement.
Cassie begrudgingly accepted that they were right and took a step out of Klaus's arms.
"This is a mess," Cassie said looking around the house.
"Well I was thinking" Caroline said.
Cassie turned around her eyebrow raised in question.
"Alaric gave you his loft, it has a two bedrooms" Caroline said.
"But there are three of us" Cassie said.
"But Elena hardly ever spends time here, this house hold so many sad memories maybe its time to move?" Caroline offered.
Cassie walked down the hallways looking at the pictures on the wall of the family, her parents, and john, Jenna. Maybe Caroline was right.
"Ok" she said, "lets start moving"
Caroline beamed as she whistled and three movers came in.
"You don't have to worry" she said smiling at Klaus and Cassie, "I'll have everything boxed and sent to the loft."
Cassie smiled and let Caroline go, she knew it was a coping thing for her, she was just a nervous as the two of them.
Cassie sat on the couch in the living and watched as these strangers packed away her childhood home.
She didn't say anything, and she especially didn't look at Klaus.
Caroline of course noticed the tension and as soon as they were done for the day she shooed the boys out.
"I'll be around at eleven tomorrow." She said quietly to the two of them.
Cassie nodded and Caroline speed out of there.
"Are you going to talk to me now?" Klaus asked
Cassie looked up at him "I don't know what I'm suppose to say." She said.
Klaus put his head in his hands. "Cassandra" he began.
"You called me a cheater," she whispered. "You insulted me and how I take our relationship."
"I was upset," he said.
"So was I" she said "but that doesn't mean I go and think that you have slept with everyone"
"You have to realize" Klaus said standing up " that it wasn't just anybody, it was Damon, the person that you were with before me, a person might I add that you never broke up with, but he was compelled to not love you"
"And you have to realize" Cassie said standing up, mocking Klaus "that I love you, that means something to me, I am with you, one hundred percent and having "wild drunk sex with Damon"" she said making air quotes "never crossed my mind"
"How was I supposed to know that!" Klaus yelled "you cancelled our date and got into a car with Damon with copious amounts of alcohol"
"I needed to figure out a cover story for Alaric's family" she yelled back at him "and Damon was going to help because Damon was Alaric's friend!"
Klaus didn't say anything. "And that still doesn't cover that you accused me of cheating" she continued to yell, tears had started to well up in her eyes.
"Cassandra" Klaus said taking a step forward.
Cassie shook her head and took a step back; she opened her mouth to say something when her phone rang.
She looked around and found it on the floor in the kitchen.
"Hello" she answered, her voice holding no inkling the fight that was just happening.
"Ya" she said "I just woke up I was about to call you guys"
She turned her back to Klaus as she continued to talk to whoever was on the phone.
"Have you found him?" she asked.
Klaus heard Elena on the other end telling her what was going on.
"I'm good, but don't worry about me I'll explain what happened when you guys get home." She said.
Klaus smiled to himself as he heard his little sister grab the phone from Elena.
"Hey Becca" she said, "No I'm good, I promise."
Cassie was quiet for a moment, "ya, we are talking," she said quietly. "I can't promise anything, Becca"
Klaus felt like his heart was ripped out at hearing her words.
"You have nothing to thank me for" she said, "You know I see Kol and you guys as my family as well"
Klaus wanted to growl as he heard Damon take the phone from Rebecca.
"Never fear" Damon said "I'm in charge of team awesome"
Cassie laughed and rolled her eyes "thank you Damon" she said.
"No problem, now I can hear the pain in your voice so you focus on getting better and I'll bring your baby bro home and we can all celebrate"
"Promise?" she asked.
It was Katherine's turn to talk to Cassie.
"Don't worry" Katherine said "I'm taking care of these idiots, I'll get your brother home and then we can have a good talk, starting with the text I got, oh I'm alive want to head back to mystic falls? Seriously Cas? That's all I get."
"Rin, I figured you would want the whole story in person, and I didn't think you would pick a phone call from my phone" Cassie explained.
Katherine was quiet was a beat "ok, you're forgiven but I want the full story when I get back"
Cassie laughed "I'll make popcorn." She said before hanging up.
She turned around to face Klaus.
"Where were we?" she asked.
Klaus sighed, "We were still fighting," he said.
"Do you at least understand where I'm coming from?" Cassie asked "because I do, I understand that you thought maybe it could possibly happen and next time I'll let you know the full story with details since you obviously don't trust me"
Klaus groaned, "there is nothing I can say that can fix this is there?" he asked.
Cassie was quiet for a moment, "I don't know" she admitted, "Nik, you were in my mind, you heard how important trust is for me and to know that you don't trust me"
"It doesn't change the way I feel about you" Klaus said taking a step closer to her, until he hit the barrier.
"But it changes everything" Cassie said "I still love you, of course I do but I cant be in a relationship where you don't trust me."
Klaus whished she would come back over here, so he could touch her.
"God Nik, I thought we were pass this!" she was yelling again.
"Trust isn't something that comes easy to me" he said trying to defend himself.
"When have I ever given you a reason not to trust me?" Cassie asked "Nik I have been bending over backwards to help this relationship because I know that it's hard for you, and I thought it was doing something to help."
Cassie turned around again and put her hands on the counter, Klaus saw her taking deep breaths trying to calm down again.
"I think we need a break," Cassie said.
"What?" he asked.
"I think we need a break" Cassie said turning around to face him "with everything that's going on, the last thing I can worry about is whether or not you can trust me and how we are going to interact with each other."
"Cassie" Klaus said, his voice quiet "what if I don't want break"
Cassie closed her eyes, Klaus saw a tear leak out and he knew it was as hard for her to do this, as it was for him to hear her say it
"Its too late" she whispered "we need this, and after we get Jeremy back and everything settles down a little bit from this Silas stuff we can try to start again."
Klaus didn't say anything as Cassie turned and left the Gilbert house, leaving Klaus there by himself.
The next day Cassie didn't come over to the gilbert house, and the day after that she didn't show up either.
The only thing that Klaus had those days, were Caroline and those movers.
But after three days everything was up and packed away, Klaus was left alone in an empty house.
It was the morning of the fourth day since Cassie had left when he heard her walk in.
She walked in and sat on the kitchen island facing Klaus.
He took in her appearance; from the bags under her eyes and the redness to them he could tell that she hadn't been sleeping and that she had been crying a lot.
Which worried him, ever since he had known Cassie he knew she wasn't a huge crier and that she hated crying and especially hated when people knew she had been crying, but looking at her now. She was wearing a dark blue oversized sweater that was hanging off one of her shoulders; she had thrown on a pair of jeans, with some slight frays on the end with her toms. She had given no care in what she was wearing and how she looked.
"Do you need anything?" she asked finally looking up at him, her voice was hoarse from either crying or none use, Klaus couldn't tell. "Blood or anything" she continued.
Klaus shook his head, "no, Caroline has been taking care of that" he said softly.
Cassie nodded her head and just sat there.
"How are you?" he asked, "is everything moved in?"
Cassie nodded her head "turns out that I'm more like Caroline then I realized, I stressed clean the loft and then unpacked. I'm just ready for them to get home." She said.
Klaus nodded his head and the two of them fell into silence.
"I miss you," he confessed suddenly.
Cassie's head shot up and she looked at Klaus "Nik" she said.
"No listen" he said.
Cassie didn't say anything and Klaus took that as a sign to continue.
But Caroline interrupted them again,
"Guys" she said walking in "are you here?"
"Ya" Cassie called out to Caroline.
She heard Caroline's footsteps as she walked into the living room area where the two of them are.
"Here" Caroline said handing Klaus a bag of blood.
Klaus took it but he didn't do anything with it.
The three of them sat silently for a while, Klaus trying to will Caroline to leave so they could finish the conversation Klaus had finally coaxed Cassie into having.
Cassie was just messing with the bracelet o her wrist, not saying anything and not engaging in any looks. She was just checked out.
Klaus started to pace in his cage, hating every minute that he was separated from Cassie and her clear suffering.
Five minutes.
Ten minutes.
Fifteen minutes.
And then they heard a car pull up, and the door opened.
Cassie's head shot up as she stared at the door and watch as the people walked in.
Elena was the first and she shot straight over to Cassie.
"Cassie, listen" she said, "Everything is going to be ok"
Cassie hopped of the island "what do you mean?" she asked, "Elena what's going on?"
Then Stefan walked into the house, holding a body.
"No" she said taking a step towards Stefan. "Stefan please tell me that isn't"
Stefan didn't say anything but Rebecca came in, "Cassie" she said, and "it was Katherine"
Cassie looked at Rebecca and then to Stefan. And finally back down towards her little brother in Stefan's arms.
"Jeremy" she whispered pulling the blanket from her brother's face.
She took in everything; Katherine was the reason that Jeremy was dead. Katherine, her sister who she was closer to then her Elena. Katherine who knew how much her family meant to her was the reason Jeremy was dead. But the only reason they brought Katherine in was because Cassie trusted her completely. Cassie believed that there was still good in her.
It was her fault that Jeremy was dead. She should have been there, she should have taken better care of her family, and she should have done something.
Cassie could hear voice trying to talk to her, she tried to look away from Jeremy but she couldn't focus on anything thing else.
The last thing she remembered thinking was that Jeremy was going away form her.
And then darkness.
AN: ok a rather short chapter but a lot happened!
Klaus and Cassie have taken a "break" do you guys agree?
Jeremy is dead and Cassie blames herself? do you think she is right in thinking that?
and what is going to happen next? how will cassie interact with damon and the others who she trusted to take care of everything. especially since trust is so big with her.?
