AN: Good Evening, my dusk-kin and welcome back to "What I Wouldn't Do For You". Finally, we have come to the part that I've been looking forward to, where I can really let my imagination flow. I am attempting to write loads of action in this chapter, so I hope you all enjoy it. Now, less talking, more commencing.

Chapter 10: Carnival Mayhem

Classic carnival sounds, lights, people and games could be seen for miles on end. The two lovebirds stood amazed and astounded by the extravagant image that sat before them. Carnival games littered the area, showing a variety of prizes to be won. Performers were around every corner, ready to astounded and mystify everyone. The main attraction of the carnival was its 'couples only' ferrous wheel, high and mighty it stood, awaiting all who wish to board it.

Kick and Kendall just stood at the entrance for a while, soaking in all the wonder and excitement that stood before them. As far as they know, this was the first time that Mellowbrook had ever hosted a carnival. Sure, they had their special guest appearances from time to time, but this was honestly the first time a carnival ever came to town. What wonder and mystery is waiting for our fair duo, they would soon find out.

For a couple of minutes, they just stared at the majesty and beauty that surrounded and confined this small area. Kendall stared for a bit longer for she has never attended any form of gathering such as this. Only the one that stood beside her could break her out of her trance, "You ready to have some fun". She then stared at Kick, smiled and said, "With you, always". Hand in hand, they entered the carnival that will cause certain events to unfold.

Not so far behind was someone with direct orders to end their fun. John is on a mission for freedom, freedom for himself and others, but at the cost of someone else's freedom. Confined in this space was one girl who would help free one soul held captive by the hands of his so-called 'employers'. John now understood that they were nothing more than a syndicate sworn to commit evil deeds for their own benefit. Never the less, an order was an order and one where completion is mandatory.

His radio crackled to life, "Has the target been sighted yet", the voice asked. "Negative, target has not been sighted", John lied. "Affirmative, report when the target has been located", the radio fell silent. John had told a lie to the voice, he had seen them at the entrance. 'This is probably your last night here, kid. I suggest you spend it well because it won't be for long', John thought before continuing after the target.

Back with Kick and Kendall, they looked at anything and everything that they could find, searching for a place to start their fun. Rollercoaster's, Funhouses and a bundle of games to choose from, what more could you ask from a night at the carnival. So many choices, so little time, Kick and Kendall wondered where they should start. Kick then pointed towards a rollercoaster, "How about that to start of our night".

Kendall eyed the place Kick was pointing, there stood a huge rollercoaster with many corners, ups and downs to its frame-work. Even though things like this don't normally scare Kendall, she had to admit that this rollercoaster somewhat frightened her. Kick noticed her expression and squeezed her hand gently, "Don't be scared, I'll be with you all the way". Kendall looked at her boyfriend and smiled, squeezing his hand in return, "If you insist". They both made their way to the line for the rollercoaster.

Minutes went by and slowly, but surely, Kick and Kendall made their way toward the front of the line. The closer they got, the bigger and crazier the rollercoaster seemed to become and as Kendall drew closer, her fear slowly began to rise. If not for the loving hand in her hand, she would have definitely run for the hills. Through the entrance to the ride itself, they both saw the carriages, all lined up for the riders.

From first glance, it seemed the ride was full up, giving brief respite for Kendall, until... "Well, you two are quite lucky. You get the front row seats to the show", the conductor said. Kendall's fear skyrocketed, not only were they next, but they were right up at the front. They made their way toward the front and sat down in their seats. The rail came down and there they sat, strapped down with nowhere to go.

Kendall breathed in slow and heavy breathes, fear slowly rose to a level she never knew. She was usually fine with heights, but for some reason, this was not the case. "You going to be alright", Kick asked, concerned for Kendall. Kendall gave him a warm, small smile, "Don't worry, I'll be fine". "Ladies and Gentleman, the ride is about to begin. Please keep all hands and legs inside the ride at all times", one press of a button and the ride began.

Up and down, round and around, looping around and around tight turns, the coaster moved in various directions at high-speed. Screams of glee and excitement could be heard around every corner the coaster turned. Kick, enjoying the ride, followed the crowd and screamed as well. Kendall also followed suit and screamed at the top of her lungs. Minutes later, the rollercoaster came to a stop and the ride was over.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, the ride has finished. Please leave in an orderly fashion through the exit and come again if you're feeling frisky", the conductor said. As they duo came out, they couldn't contain their excitement about the ride. "That was awesome", Kick said, cheering. "I know, that was so much fun", Kendall agreed. "See, I told you it would be great", Kick said. Kendall gave him a warm smile, "Yes, you did. Thanks, Kick", she said.

Kick returned the smile, "You're welcome". Standing there felt a bit awkward, "Come on, the nights still young and there's a lot more to do", Kick said, grasping Kendall's hand and dragging her off to some other ride. Sitting down between two strangers, John kept his one on the couple. He was trying to delay his objective for as long as he could, but he would have to do it sooner or later. 'Just a bit longer, let the girl have one more night of fun', he thought to himself.

"So, what would you like to do next", Kick asked. Kendall thought about it for a minute before her mind drifted. What she saw was a small stand, a normal 'ball throw' game. She spied all those stuffed animals hanging over and around the corners of the store. Kick eventually noticed where she was staring and understood. "How about I win you something", he suggested. Kendall looked, "You don't have too". Kick held up his hand, shook his head and walked over to the stand.

"How much for a game", Kick asked the owner. A middle-aged, bearded man turned to him, "Hey there, little fella. Five dollars for a game, you get three balls, knock down the cans and win any prize you see. Knock down all three sets and you get a special prize", the owner explained. Kick pulled out a five dollars, "One game please". The owner took the money and handed Kick three balls, "Here you go son, knock 'em dead".

Kick picked up one of the balls and took aim. Kendall watched as he attempted to win her a prize and she was quite happy about how thoughtful he was. Kick threw his first ball and sadly it went to high. Disappointed, but determined, he picked up his second ball and made ready to throw. He threw the ball, but sadly it flew past the side, only inches away. "Ooh, so close. Last chance kid, take care", the owner warned.

Kick picked up his last ball, taking in deep, shallow breaths. He felt scared, he really wanted to win Kendall something and it wasn't going well. He looked back at Kendall and saw how eager she looked, how she waited for her prize. Kick looked at the cans and carefully took aim, pulled back and threw his last ball. It felt like everything was in slow motion, the ball flew through the air, dead on target, but sadly and unfortunately, fate was being really cruel.

The ball connected with all the cans and each fell with a clank against the ground, all except one. Somehow, one of them managed to stand as the lone survivor. "Well, that's just plain bad luck, sorry kid", the owner apologised. Kick slowly turned and made his way to Kendall, "I'm sorry, I didn't win". Kendall placed her hand on his shoulder, "You tried your best, and I'm happy that someone wanted to win me something. So, thanks".

Kick felt a bit better, but still sad. "Hey kid, come 'ere for a sec", the stand owner called. Kick, surprised, made his way back to the stand. "Yeah, what is it", Kick asked. The man pointed, "That your little woman over there". Kick turned to Kendall and back, "Yeah, why". The man got close to Kick, "Listen, I feel bad how it turned out for you, rotten luck", he looked around and plucked one of the stuff animals from the side.

It was a small white cat, nothing special, but still adorable. "Here, I say you earned it", the owner said and smiled. Kick looked at the gift, then back at the owner, "You sure". The man laughed a hardy laugh, "Course I'm sure, fella. I don't want you feeling sad about not winning the little lass anything, so just take it and have fun with your little friend". Kick smiled his thanks and returned to Kendall.

Her back was turned, so she didn't see the exchange. 'At least he tried to win me something. That was really nice of him', she thought to herself. "Kendall, look what I have", Kick said. Kendall turned and was surprised by the little stuffed cat in front of her eyes. She looked at the prize, then Kick and just went back and forth for a bit. "How did you-", she was going to ask. Kick smiled, "The man gave it to me as a complimentary prize. He felt bad about what just happened".

Kendall slowly accepted the prize, still in shock about it. She looked at Kick, small smile, but it meant a lot, "Thanks, Kick. You're really great". Kick scratched the back of his head, "No problem, it's the least I can do". Some weird feeling compelled them to move their faces closer to each other, slowly inching towards each other, feeling one another's breath. So close, until, "Hey, get a room, you loony lovebirds", the owner shouted and laughed.

Kick and Kendall pulled away from each other, warm blood rushing to their faces. Surprisingly, and to their great pleasure, no one seemed to have paid attention to their little moment. Kick, still looking away, suggested, "How about we find something else to do". Kendall, also looking away, agreed, "Yep, okay, lead the way". The couple quickly rushed off, "Hey, don't stop on my account", the owner called and laughed one last time.

Kick and Kendall walked around the vast instalment of the carnival, looking high and low for something to entertain them. They played more games, went on more rides, watched small performances outside, everything the carnival had to offer. One ride did upset the young daredevil's stomach and he quickly found a nearby rubbish bin to spill his guts out. Thankfully, Kendall was there to pat him on the back.

Minutes went by, an hour flew past and every single second they were there, they were entertained. The happened to find their way to a haunted mansion tour and decided to join it. When they entered, they were greeted by a dark, clocked man. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Do you all dare to face the horrors that lie deep in this haunted establishment", the figure asked. All in attendance agreed, "Then follow me and prepare to be scared".

The tour was about ten minutes long, as they went into various rooms, each having their own little gimmick to them. A couple of these rooms possessed scares that made the audience jump. After the tour ended, with one last jump scare at the end for good measure, Kick and Kendall exited and searched for more stuff to do. Before the left they noticed that the haunted tour had hidden cameras that took a picture of everyone's frightened expressions when something jump out to scare them.

Laughing at the hilarious expression of both themselves and everyone else, Kick and Kendall resumed their search for more fun and excitement that could be found at this carnival. Closely watching them however was John, always one step behind them. "Hello John, how goes the search", his radio crackled, his bosses voice coming from it. "What do you want", he asked, bitterly. "Calm down, my boy. I was just inquiring how the operation was running", he asked.

"I will tell you when I have acquired the target, until then, you better hold up your side of the bargain", John said. "Of course, you have my complete trust. Just so you know, I have other agents there as insurance. So, don't try any funny business, and have fun, it's a carnival", the radio went silent. John replaced the radio back into his pocket, "Yeah, but it's your carnival". John then resumed after the couple.

Looking at his watch, Kick noticed how late it was. "Wow, time sure flies when you're having fun, it's nearly ten", Kick said. "Really, we have school in the morning", Kendall said, surprised how late it was. Kick was about to suggest leaving until he noticed the ferrous wheel, "Say, how about one last stop". Kendall looked at him, then where he was looking. She looked back at him, smiling, "Alright, one last stop".

They made their way to the ferrous wheel and where surprised to see no one at the ride. They approached the entrance to the ride, "Hello there, ride for two, is it", the man asked. Kick and Kendall nodded their agreement. "Well, you two are in luck, I was just about to close up shop. So, you two can be my last riders, how does that sound", he asked. "Sounds good", they both answered in unison. The man opened one of the booths for them, "Splendid, hop on in and enjoy the ride". They both hopped in and with a flip of a switch, the ride began to move.

Slowly around and high it continuously climbed until they were high enough to see the illuminating lights that span the area. People became ants, stands became boxes, everything shrunk in size the higher the wheel rose. Kick and Kendall sat side by side, enjoying the slow climb and wondrous image that lay outside their window. Kendall was preoccupied by the stunning sight she sees while Kick was also preoccupied, but with something else.

The moonlight conveniently shone through the window, illuminating the lovely girl who sat beside him. Everything about her seemed to brighten, her hair, her dress, her body, everything he could see and more. After a while, Kendall returned her view to the inside, looking over to Kick, "Is something wrong, Kick". Kick shook his head, clearing his thoughts, "Nothing. It's just that, the moon made you look really pretty".

Kendall's face lighted up like a Christmas tree, her cheeks slowly glowing red, "Um, thanks". They sat in silence for a bit until the ride came to a stop. They were wondering what was happening when a built-in speaker inside their booth came to life, "Sorry about this kids, but I seriously have to use the 'John' for a bit. Be right back". The speaker fell silent, leaving Kick and Kendall to themselves atop the ferrous wheel.

It just became awkward after a while as they just sat there in silence. Too shy to look at each other even though they both belong to each other. Then, a thought came across Kick's mind, something reminded him of a thing he forgot to do when they both got together. "Hey, Kendall, there's something I forgot to tell you", Kick said. Kendall turned to him, "Yeah, what is it". Kick quickly looked for the courage to say it, "After we got together, I forgot to say how sorry I am for being mean to you all those times".

Kendall was surprised, but continued to listen intently. "I admit I was really mean to you and you didn't deserve any of that. It wasn't nice and I wouldn't have liked it if you'd have done it to me. So, I'm really sorry for all I've done". Kick finished his sentence, waiting for Kendall's reaction. Kendall sat there for a bit, taking in the words he had just said. Then, she gave him a warm smile and said, "Don't worry, I forgive you for everything".

Kick looked up, relieved, "Really, after all those times". Kendall nodded her head, "You really are the sweetest guy out there. Not only did you admit your feelings, you apologised for everything bad you did. You, by far, are the greatest boyfriend I will ever have. And that will be for a long time". Kick was happy, Kendall was happy, they both were together and on a new slate. And of course, the weird compelling arrived once more.

Slowly, they inched themselves closer. Closer and closer they came to one another's face, only mere inches away. Yet, for some reason, they couldn't close that gap, the small gap that lay between each other's lips. They needed something to help both of them, and it came, in the form of the ride jerking back into motion. The force propelled them forward and they closed the gap between them, after all the earlier times they were interrupted and it felt good. Conveniently, fireworks began exploding outside, but neither of the two showed any interest.

Once the ride came full circle, the man proceeded to open the door for the two, "Sorry, couldn't have held it in for another minute". They two occupants stepped out, not paying slight attention to what the man said. Confused, he wondered why the two seemed out of the world, then understood and laughed. "Well, I see you two found something interesting to do up there", he said, winking at the two.

They slightly blushed, but showed no opposition and continued on their way. Walking hand in hand, they journeyed to find the exit. Not many people walked the area now, all have already went back home. Some people even were taking down their stands and packing up for the night. But Kick and Kendall showed no interest, for their interests were preoccupied by one another's and nothing could change that, except the cruel hands of fate that brought an ill wind.

Standing before them was a man in a hooded jacket, cargo pants, fingerless gloves and an imposing stance. Kick and Kendall registered the man in front of them and stopped n their tracks. The man stood there for a bit, staring at them, watching their every move. At took Kendall a while to realise who the man was, somebody she knew really well, "Mr. John, is that you". The figure slowly pulled his hood from his head, revealing his face.

It was John, the man who had helped Kendall through a rough time, the man who saved her from impending doom, someone she trusted with her life. "John, I didn't know you were here. How are you", she asked. John gave no answer, he just continued to stare. Kendall, not sensing any danger, rushed towards the man and hugged his waist. When she pulled away, she grabbed his arm, "I want you to meet someone, come on".

She pulled his arm, but he would go nowhere. Kendall noticed this and looked at John, "Is something the matter". Sensing something, Kendall slowly backed away. John sighed, "I'm sorry kid, for everything I've done". Kendall was confused, "What do you mean". John then looked at her with a stern expression, "And what I'm about to do". Kendall felt a rush of wind go past her and head straight for Kick.

Kick was just standing there when a strong impact came on his stomach. John's fist connected with the boy's gut and caused him to fly backwards into a nearby stand. "KICK", Kendall screamed, rushing over to check on him. But before she could, two arms wrapped around her throat and slowly choked her. Fighting with all her might, she attempted to break free, but to no avail. "Just go to sleep, young one. It will be over before you know it".

Kendall's body began to weaken as her body went limp. John released the hold and carefully placed her unconscious body on the ground. John grabbed his radio, "Target acquired. Move in for pick up". His radio crackled its answer, "Affirmative, moving in for extraction". John looked down at the girl who lay before him, "Sorry kid, I have other problems that only you can solve". John noticed a white object on the ground and went to pick it up. The white toy cat stared at him with its little eyes, so John placed the toy in his jackets pocket and waited.

(Few minutes later)

Kicks body and mind restarted, causing Kick to have a coughing fit. A sharp pain on his lower abdomen could be felt and his back and head pounded with hurt. Slowly, his eyes adjusted to his surroundings and he noticed black figures picking up what seemed to be a body. His eyes finally adjusted and he noticed the body of Kendall Perkins being brought away. Standing there was the man who had caused all this.

"YOU", Kick screamed with the best of his abilities. John heard it and turned towards the boy, "I suggest staying down, boy. You don't want to get hurt anymore than you are now". Kick slowly, and in a great deal of pain, rose to his feet and made his way to John, "Where have you taken Kendall". John turned his back to him, "I also suggest not getting involved in this matter". Kick slowly, then quickly, rushed over to where John is, "WHERE IS SHE".

John sensed the impending attack and side-stepped. Kick fell to the ground again, "I'm warning you one more time, stay out of this". Kick then got up again, "Not until you've told me where you have taken her". John slowly backed away, "If you really want to find out, you're going to have to catch me". John turned and bolted away, causing Kick to run after him as quick as his injured body could. He had to catch him, for the sake of someone important.

The cat and mouse chase began, John rushing ahead with Kick close at his heels. The amount of people was minimal, so it made it easy for Kick to track John if he were to escape his vision. But, that was countered with the amount of stands and people packing up, plus the night didn't make it any easier. These pros and cons would help decide the outcome of the events to come, whether it is salvation or damnation.

The chase continued, John dipping and dodging around every corner, Kick following suit. "STOP", he yelled, "Tell me where they have taken her". John answered back, "Like I said, you want to know, come get me". Coming up was a cul-de-sac of stands, blocking John's retreat, though it didn't do much as John easily propelled himself up and over the middle stand. Kick, however, hopped through the middle stand and on to the other side.

Further on, the carnival tent was coming into view and all the performers were packing up. John ducked and weaved past the workers, much to their dislike. "Hey, watch where you're going", one of the workers said. "Stop him, he kidnapped someone", Kick called to them. The performers and workers needed a second to register this information before they too ran after John. "Stop, you fiend", the strongest man ordered.

"Come and make me, muscle boy", John taunted. The ringmaster pulled out a megaphone, "Attention to all residents in the vicinity, there is a kidnapper on the loose. If found, attempt to contain him. I repeat, do not, in any way, let him escape". People heard the command and flocked into place to hinder John's escape. "Well, this just got a lot more annoying", John said, now having to deal with the whole carnival.

A whole crowd now followed Kick from behind, helping to put this fiend in his place. Around every corner and gap, a person stood guard in an attempt to catch the kidnapper. John had a bit more trouble escaping, avoiding every corner and gap that was already occupied by a resident. Soon enough, John was caught between a rock and a hard place, surrounded by performers, residents of Mellowbrook and one angry boy.

"Nowhere to run, now tell me where she is", Kick ordered. John sighed and turned toward the boy, "You just don't know when to give up, now I am moderately annoyed". John adjusted his stance, as if ready to engage in combat. The strong performer laughed, "You really think you can beat us. There are a lot of us and only one of you, little man". "Then why don't you try me on for size, muscles for brains", John taunted.

The strong man pounded his chest, accepting the challenge and charging forward. Both hands locked against one another in a test of strength. At first, they equalled in strength, then the strong man began to bring John down to his knees, "Hah, do you really think you can beat me". John then looked up and smiled, pushing back and bringing the man to his knees, "You were saying". John then let the man's hands go and wrapped them around his waist.

"W-what now", the man asked. John then heaved up with all his might, bringing the strong man up and over, landing him on the back of his head. Instantaneously, the strong man lost consciousness and lay there, defeated. John rose to his feet, the crowd in a state of shock and awe, "Anyone else want to have a go", John challenged. The ringmaster was the first to respond, "Come on, people. He can't handle all of us at once. Let's get him". With that, everyone charged forward.

The first man to approach John was knocked out with one right hook. The second man tried to attack, but was blocked and thrown toward the oncoming group of 'challengers'. The more that came, the more bodies fell to the ground. Soon enough, all the people who surrounded him now lay on the floor. The only few people left standing were Kick, the ringmaster and a couple of other performers.

"What demonic being are you", the ringmaster asked, frightened. John looked toward the remaining 'survivors'. "I am really annoyed now. Anyone else eager to try to stop me", John shouted. The others began backing away, not wanting anymore to do with this superhuman. John then looked at Kick, "I already know you won't give up. Are you ready for round two", he began backing away and pointed toward one building.

"I'll give you one more chance, that place will be the deciding vote. You find me, I'll take you to where she is", Kick looked at the building he was pointing at, the 'Hall of Mirrors'. Kick returned his gaze to John and nodded. John smiled, "Great, give me two seconds and then come after me. And as for the rest of you, no one interfere". John then ran into the hall, Kick then followed close behind him. The ringmaster still stood in disbelief, "That man is no mere human, he's a monster. I hope that boy knows what he's doing".

(Inside the 'Hall of Mirrors')

Kick looked around, greeted by reflections. "Never before have I seen someone so eager to catch me. What drives you, young man", Kick looked around for the voice. "What do you think I would do, you just kidnapped someone right in front of me, how can I not respond", Kick answered. "No, I think there is more to it", John's images soon engulfed all the mirrors in the area. "I have a feeling this person is someone you really care for".

Kick charged forward, only to be greeted by the cold glass of the mirror. "Of course I care, she's my girlfriend. Now tell me where she is", Kick shouted. John walked around, his reflections dancing around Kick, "That's true, but I think you care for this girl more than life itself". Kick continued searching, "Of course I care about her, I lo-", he stopped, spotting the man. "Found you", Kick charged forward.

"Nice try, but not good enough", John disappeared again. Kick crashed into yet another mirror, getting up slowly. "Game over kid, I'm at the exit", John informed. Kick rushed through the maze, finally finding the exit. He looked around, but failed to find John, "No, I-I failed". He dropped to his knees and began pounding the ground. His hands hurt after a while, but not as much as the pain in his heart.

Just then, he heard the crackle of something. He looked around and noticed a dropped radio. He went over and picked it up. "Attention, John. The target has arrived at Headquarters, report back", the radio then fell silent. "Great, just great, no address", just then, another crackle came from the radio. "Hey kid, you still there", John's voice sounded. "Where are you, where is this headquarters of yours", Kick demanded.

"If you really want to find out, meet me downtown at a dinner, you can't miss it. It's between two big buildings", John gave him directions. "Why are you helping me", Kick asked. "No reason, I just admire your tenacity. If you really want to save her, you're going to have to battle a powerful organization. Sadly, I won't help you there, you're on your own", John informed. Kick thought about it, "I'll meet you there".

"Be prepared, this will dangerous", John's voice cut off. Kick pulled out his phone and called Gunther, "Gunther, its Kick". "Hey buddy, how's your date going", Gunther asked. "Listen to me, this is very important. Meet me at the entrance to the carnival and bring 'Old Blue' with you", Kick asked. "What's wrong, did something happen", Gunther asked, concerned. "I'll explain everything later, just hurry", Kick ended the call. "Don't worry Kendall, I'm coming to save you", Kick rushed towards the entrance, ready for the fight of his life.

AN: And scene. Fantastic, this took a while, just because I was lazy. Wasn't as long as I was hoping for but it's not that bad. Not much action I was going for, so I hope you all will enjoy it. Anyway's, thank you so much for reading, stay tuned for more chapters and I will see you next time, bye-bye.

May the night watch over you.
