RWBY Vol. 2 happened. Emerald's character being shown happened. This drabble happened.

Enjoy!

The first time Emerald met Jaune, she had thought for sure she'd hate him. He considered himself a lady-killer, was a rookie in fighting, and made terrible flirting jokes that he did get punched for (not by her; having a friend like Mercury taught her to just roll with the goofiness).

However, the more she got to know him, the more she found herself liking him. Despite his goofy awkwardness, he was caring and adorable. His only problem was that he tried too hard because he wanted to be like. Cheesy as it sounded, Emerald liked him the way he was.

Plus, he was easy to pick-pocket from. Like, super easy. Which made every encounter with Jaune oh so fun. Like at that moment, Emerald had come across Jaune alone in the courtyard, and since he was wearing his armor and had his weapon on his hip, Emerald decided to steal the weapon. She did just that, surprising the blond haired boy.

"Emerald, please give me my shield back," Jaune requested, already knowing without needing to see that they were drawing in a crowd.

"Wow this thing is heavy. It sure as hell isn't as light as it looks!" Emerald commented as she lifted the retracted shield (with sword) in the air a couple times.

"Yeah, I know, it's heavy," Jaune replied, holding out his arm. "Now please give it back?"

"You know Arc, you're not fun," Emerald complained, keeping his weapon in her hand. "I've never held your weapon before, and the minute I get it in my hands, you want it back."

Jaune gawked at her in disbelief. Was she seriously blaming him after she stole it from him?

"You grabbed it without permission!"

"Details," Emerald shrugged. "Now do you really want it back?"

"Yes," Jaune responded.

"Very well, but let's do a trade," Emerald suggested as she got a wicked gleam in her eye.

"Trade?" Jaune questioned, following along with the madness. There wasn't any point to deter Emerald; she would just overlook any complaints he had.

"Yep. A trade. You give me something, and I give you this back," Emerald answered, holding up the shield.

"Fine," he agreed.

"Excellent!" the girl cheered, handing over the shield.

Jaune took his weapon back with a blink, confused by her actions. Hadn't she asked for a trade? He opened his mouth to ask her, but then he felt something moist against his cheek, and his brain registered that as lips. Emerald's lips. Emerald was kissing him.

Emerald was kissing him!

After a few seconds, Emerald pulled away. A smile was on her face, and it grew into a smirk when she saw the stunned look on Jaune's face. That had been the reaction she was hoping for.

"Let's trade again Arc," Emerald said, walking past him and heading back into the academy.

The green haired girl paid little attention to the crowd that was, at this point, abuzz with murmurs over what they had just witnessed. Emerald was focused on planning her next attempt at a trade, because she had every intention to follow up on her proposal. And next time, it wouldn't be on the cheek.
