Last Time on Iron Heart Alchemist

"Al, just hang in there just a little bit longer, OK. Then we will get you your body back I promise." Ed said looking at Al who was sitting next to his bed.

"I promise as well, you tin can." Naruto said smiling.

"Right, and while we are at it, we will get both of yours as well." Al said looking at Naruto's hole.

"Nah, I kind like this look, don't you?" Naruto asked looking at Al with a smile on his face.

"Easy for you to say, you don't have to do all the work."

One year Later

"Alright, are you ready for a beat down." Ed said as he stretched arms above his head. Ed and Naruto were outside of the Rockbell's house ready to test out their new auto-mail.

"Bring it on shorty." Naruto said baiting him to make the first move, which he did. Ed ran straight to Naruto. When Ed got into sticking distance, Naruto brought up his foot to and aimed for Ed's side. Ed grabbed his foot and pulled Naruto closer to him. Naruto landed on his back, and rolled to avoid Ed's metal foot. This gave him a chance to get back on his feet before Ed's next attack. Ed then punched Naruto with his right hand. Naruto dodged it and thew one of his own, which barely missed Ed. Naruto threw a kick toward Ed's head. Ed blocked with his arm, and did few back-flips to but some distance between the two. At that moment Al came outside.

"You guys weren't suppose to start with out me." Al said running to Naruto.

"He started it." Ed said pointing at Naruto.

"Sorry Al, I couldn't resist a little teasing." Naruto said looking at the armor boy.

"Don't call me little!" Ed said as he rushed towards Naruto. When Ed got close enough, instead of throwing a punch, Naruto dropped his hands, making them over lap. Ed step on the hands, as Naruto threw Ed up to Al. Ed then aimed a kick to Al's breast-plate, causing the brothers to fall to the ground.

"It seems like you're in perfect shape, both of you." Al said looking at the sky.

"Yeah now we need to try using alchemy." Ed said sitting up.

"It's been awhile since you used it." Al said turning his head to Ed.

"Not since that night we tried to bring mom back." Naruto said as he walked over to his brothers.

"Right." Ed said as he clapped his hands and then transformed his right hand into a blade. He rolled to his side and cut Naruto's shoelace.

"You asshole." Naruto said as he copied Ed's earlier movements and transformed his left hand into a blade.

"Brothers that was awesome. You didn't use a transmutation circle or anything, either of you. You perform alchemy just like teacher does." Al said sitting up looking at his brothers.

"You can do to can't you?" Ed asked looking at Al.

"Me, no, no way." Al said waving his hands in front of him.

"So you didn't see it, did you?" Naruto said looking at Al.

"See what?" Al said looking at his brothers.

"Ahh never mi-" Naruto started before he was cut off by being hit with a wrench to the head.

"HEY! Don't mess up my auto-mail. Don't you know how hard I worked on that?" Winry shouted as she came fling out of the house.

"If it's half as hard as you throw a wrench, I'd be surprised." Naruto said nursing his head.

"For real you should starting acting like a girl, and less like a gear-head." Ed said looking up at the blond girl.

"You think I'm a gear-head, that's fine. But, you better get use it. So as long as you're wearing my auto-mail you're stuck with this gear-head, whither you like it or not." Winry said before she stormed back into the house. Once she was gone the brother fell into the grass and watched the clouds go by.

"There is something I have to tell you, and I don't know how you will take it." Naruto said in a small voice.

"You know you can tell us anything, we're your brothers." Al said looking at Naruto.

"OK, but you have to promise not to laugh." Naruto said looking at the duo. After seeing a nod from the hem he continued. "You know I haven't always been with you guys. I come from the other side."

"You don't mean ..." Al said sitting straight up.

"But brother, if you're found out you'll be killed." Ed said looking at Naruto with alarm.

"That's not all. They have something similar to alchemy, but it's called ninjutsu. Unlike alchemy, ninjutsu doesn't have equivalent exchange. With ninjutsu they could do things that shouldn't be possible, like walk on trees, and water, creating fire out of their mouths, and so much more." Naruto said looking at the two to see if they will believe him.

"So they don't pay anything to do those things?" Ed said looking at the sky once again.

"Well they have to pay with chakra. It's an energy within the body. The more chakra you have the more things you can do." Naruto said returning his gaze back to the sky.

"Interesting." Ed said standing up.

"But wait, there's more. On the day I was born, the leader of my village sealed a demon inside of me. So, I can do these things as well." Naruto not bothering to look at the two, afraid of what he might see.

"I think Winry hit you too hard with that wrench." Ed said getting off the grass and started back inside.

"I can prove it." Naruto said as he got up and walked to the tree at the end of the yard. He put his hand on the trunk. He took a deep breath, and put his foot on the trunk.

"Stop messing ar-" Ed started until he look over and saw Naruto upside down on tree branch.

"Whoa." Was all Ed and Al could say. Naruto then pushed off the tree and landed on the ground.

"So, uh, how long have you been able to do this?" Ed said looking down, so Naruto couldn't see his eyes.

"Since I saw the truth."

"I see,well then we will have to keep it our little secret then. I'm not thrilled that you kept something this big from us for a year. But, I'm glad you told us." Ed said looking at Naruto.

"I think this secret will be easier to keep, then explaining the can opener over here." Naruto said with a smirk.

"So does this mean you're not going to take the State Alchemist Test?" Al said looking at Naruto.

"No, I still am. I mean how many times does a ten-year old get to take the SATs? I just won't use my super powers to pass." Naruto said as he walked back inside.

A week and a train ride later

Ed and Naruto were waiting outside a room that was being used for testing. Men and women were being called into the room one at a time.

"Edward Elric and Naruto Uzumaki, this way please." a random soldier said looking at the papers. The boys walked past the people. They could hear things like 'they're letting children take this test' and 'why are both being called in'

"before we go in there, brother, I want to say if only one of us can become an alchemist, let the best alchemist win." Ed said sticking his hand out.

"Oh, I will" Naruto said shaking Ed's hand.

"Why do have to be so heartless?" Ed said looking at Naruto

"Heartless, funny Ed, real funny." Naruto said looking at his brother.

"I thought so."

"Hey Ed, break a leg. Preferably this one." Naruto said as he lifted his right leg and kicked Ed though the double doors. The room was filled with soldiers looking at the brothers.

"Sorry about that Ed." Naruto said offering his right hand to help Ed up. Ed grabbed his hand and pulled him to the floor.

"If you two are done." A man with an eye patch over his left eye.

"Would those be steel prosthesis?" The eye patched man asked once he saw the boys arms.

"Yeah it happened during the eastern conflict." Ed said hold his metal arm.

"I see, so you had a rough time in Ishval." The man said looking at the pair.

"You can say that. I have a question. I was watching other people come in here, and I noticed that they were being called in one at a time. So, why are my brother and myself being called at the same time?" Naruto asked looking at the man.

"It's because the first part of the exam is to test your fighting skills. And a demonstration of your alchemy skills while in combat. It would look bad if one of my soldiers beat a kid in a fight. It would look even worse if they got beat by a kid." The man said looking at Naruto.

"Pay up Ed" Naruto said turning to Ed. Ed, mumbling profanities under his breath, dug though his pockets until he found what he what he was looking for, and handed it to his brother.

"You see, we made a bet last night. I bet Ed that you guys would make a big deal over our ages. And, I was right." Naruto said talking to the eye patched man. Whole time Naruto was talking to him Ed had asked the solider next to him who the man was.

"Hey Nar, pay up, you're talking to Fuhrer King Bradley, himself." Ed said sticking his hand out.

"Well I'll be damn." Naruto said handing over the money Ed just gave him.

"Shall we proceed with the examination." Bradley said looking at the boys.

"Do you need something to draw something to draw transmutation circles with?" A random solider asked.

"No, we're good." Ed said looking at Naruto. Ed clapped his hands together and transmuted a spear out of the ground. He then ran towards Naruto.

"What no warning." Naruto said as he dodged a strike to his head.

"No know there is no warning in real battles." Ed said pulling the spear out of Naruto's reach.

"You have to on your toes …" Ed then used the handle to knock Naruto to the ground.

"Or you'll end up flat on your back" Ed said standing over Naruto.

"Well if that's how your going to be." Naruto said swing his legs, tripping Ed. That gave enough time to get some distance between the two. Clapping his hands together, Naruto made his own spear, then he charged at Ed. Ed dodged a blow to his head. He countered by swiping the handle to trip Naruto, Who jumped to avoid it. Naruto stuck his spear near Ed's hands and made a circle movement, causing Ed's spear to spin out of his hands. Ed jumped back to avoid an attack to his stomach. Seeing that he was now next to his spear, Ed made a grab for it. Only to have Naruto to use his to pull it away from Ed and towards himself.

"Here you might need this." Naruto said as he lifted the spear with his foot and threw it at Ed (Like Sasuke did to Naruto during their battle at the Valley of the End, Episode 133). It landed where Ed's head had been just moments before.. Ed looked where he was when he realized he was in front of Fuhrer King Bradley. He then pulled the spear out of the ground, as Naruto walked up to him. The boys were now standing face to face, then the pair then turned their spears at Fuhrer King Bradley. This caused the solider to point their guns at the duo.

"You know some people would see this as a good way to assassinate a VIP" Said Naruto

"In the future, you should might want to rethink the way you conduct these examinations." said Ed

"Oh, and you shouldn't underestimate children. I'll be your down fall one day." Naruto said looking at the men. Bradley waved his hand, and the soldiers lowered their guns. Naruto and Ed lowered their weapons as well.

"That was very good. You both have nerves of steel, young men. But I'd say you have much to learn about the world." Bradley said walking off. After he took a few steps the tips of the spears fell off. "You put on quite show, my naive young alchemists. The oldest can follow me to proceed to the interview."

"When did he..." Ed started

"draw his sword?" Naruto finished. Ed then ran to catch up to the departing man.

Inside another room

After a little while later Naruto was called in. Taking a look around, he noticed that Ed was no where in the room. He did see however, a thee legged chair.

"I take it you want me to sit in this unbalanced chair, tell me alchemy is a balanced science, and State Alchemists aren't suppose to be afraid?" Naruto said walking up to the chair. He looked at the chair, clapped his hands, placed his hands on the chair and added another leg before sitting in it. "Here's the thing, being afraid doesn't make you a coward, it makes you human. Fear is not evil. It tells you what your weakness is. And once you know your weakness, you become stronger. And, just because I'm afraid doesn't mean I'm not going to carry out orders. I may not like the order, hell I may even disagree with them, but I will carry them out. Just like good solider should."

"Very good. Tell me, why do you want to become a State Alchemist?" Bradley asked leaning on the desk he sat behind.

"I promised my brothers I would become a State Alchemist at all cost. I will take the good along with the bad. Some people do feel like they couldn't kill for the sake of the country, I however, do not care. If those are the orders I am given, they will be carried out. Some people say that I am heartless, I just say that it is in-cased in iron." Naruto said looking at Bradley without blinking.

"Thank you for your consideration. We will let you know of your results in a week. You may leave though that door." Bradley said as he pointed towards a door to his left.

So, that's where Ed went.

A week later

Ed, Al, and Naruto were walking down the hall in Central Command. Today was the day that the results were to be posted for the SATs. Saying that they were nervous was the understatement of the year.

"Brothers wait." Al said as they got close to the where the results were posted. The two boys turned around to look at their younger brother.

"I just want to say, no matter what the results may be, you both are great Alchemists. They would be lucky to have either one of you. If both of you made it, even better." said Al. If he could his face would have been turned into a smile. The boys walked up to the results, took a deep breath, and searched for their names. Upon finding them, the boys looked at each other and smiled.

"Watch this." Naruto whispered to Ed while they were walking back to Al.

"Sorry Al, we tried our best but ..." Naruto said looking at Al, once he and Ed got to him.

"So, you guys didn't make it, either of you?" Al asked looking at the pair. At that moment Hawkeye came towards the crowding group.

"Elric, Uzumaki follow me." With that she turned on her heel and walked off. The three boys shard a look before following the woman. The four of them came to door. Upon opening the door they were in a room with several desks, and two couches. The room was empty except the four and Mustang, who was sitting behind the main desk.

"Take a seat boys." Mustang said pointing to the couches. Hawkeye walked over and stood next to Roy. "These silver pocket watches will serve as proof of your state certification. Thes-" Mustang started.

"Wait I thought you two didn't make it." Al said as he looked at his brothers. Ed was looking annoyed while Naruto was laughing so hard he was crying.

"Why would you think that? They had the highest scores out of this year." Hawkeye asked looking at the trio.

"It was Naruto's sick idea as a joke." Ed said gesturing his hand towards the laughing boy.

"Can we continue, or do the two of you need to go back to school?" Mustang said looking at the laughing child.

"Fine, fine" Naruto said calming down.

"As I was saying, These envelopes contains your certificate of appointment." He then took the envelopes and looked at something on them. He then handed the them and the watches to Hawkeye, who gave them to the boys. (Their names were on the outside of the envelope) "I would seem that our Fuhrer has a sense of irony"

"Why is that?" Ed asked as he was handed his items.

"Nothing. Congratulations, you just officially became a dog of the military." said Mustang.

"Woof." Naruto said as he pulled out his certificate of appointment. Mustang smirked, Hawkeye chuckled, Al sat there confused, and Ed gave Naruto the dirtiest look he could muster.

"What does it say?" said Al said pointing at the paper.

"By Order of Fuhrer King Bradley, this document certifies Edward Elric has been appointed to the post of state alchemist and that he is hereby grated the title of Fullmetal. Fullmetal?" Ed read off the page.

"That's right. Along with their commission, state alchemists also receive a code name." Mustang explained.

"What's yours?" Al asked Naruto.

"He took what I said literal." Naruto said looking at Mustang.

"Why what does it say?" Al asked

"The official names you two will now be known as is the Fullmetal Alchemist and Iron Heart Alchemist." Mustang said looking at the group.

"What did you say in the interview?" Ed asked turning to his brother.

"It doesn't matter but we have your first mission." Mustang said looking the person in question.
