Thank you guys for your lovely reviews, you are all so very kind!:*
A couple of months later:
3 hours. That's how long they managed to sleep before Alexander started crying again, his high pitched cries echoing through the silence of the room, interrupting their far too short period of rest.
She turned around, fighting with the blanket that had wrapped itself around her body, her arm falling over to her husband's side of the bed. Her hand landed on his chest, grabbing at the fabric of his T-shirt, shaking him lightly, in order to pull him into consciousness again. Her moves were slow, the lack of sleep making it impossible to move as fast as she was usually able to.
"Your turn Castle" she mumbled, her eyes still closed, pressing her face into her pillow, willing the noise to just go away.
He just moaned sleepily next to her, shifting in bed and turning over so that his back was facing her; he pulled his blanket over his head, ignoring the steadily growing cries coming from the room next door.
She sighed before gathering her strength, concentrating all her energy on the task of rolling over, placing her palms on his back and pushing him towards the edge of the bed.
"Yeah, yeah I'm going" his voice was slurred, still drowsy from sleep and the fatigue all too audible.
She felt the mattress dipping slightly when he got up, his steps heavy as he left the room, only barely lifting his feet, too tired to bother with the effort.
They had placed the crib in the study for now, having figured out that Alexander's and therefore their own sleep lasted longer when his parents weren't right beside him, yet keeping him close enough to be right there when he was crying.
When he reached the crib he carefully gathered the little man in his arms, wrapping him in his favorite super hero blanket tightly before sitting down on the chair, rocking the little bundle in his arms as he did so.
Alex immediately settled into his father's arms, his crying growing more and more quiet until he was resting peacefully, sucking on his thumb, wearing a content expression on his face as he was staring up at his father.
Castle sighed, knowing that he would have to stay with him a little longer, for he knew that as soon as he placed him back in the crib he would just start crying all over again.
So he just sat there, rocking his son in his arms while telling him the story of a badass princess and her partner, who were saving the world from dragons.
Alexander was listening intently, fascinated by the story, or maybe just Castle's voice; humming small sounds of contentment from time to time, laughing and babbling some nonsense baby ramblings.
Castle didn't realize how long he had been with him, when he noticed the small figure standing in the doorframe, leaning against the wood as she observed the father-son interaction silently.
He carefully shifted his son to his left arm and reached out his right for her, signaling her to come over and join them.
Her eyes looked so tired, still not completely open, wearing that adorable expression she always had in the mornings right before he brought her some coffee. Her messy hair was reflecting the lights that were glistening outside, glowing softly in the darkness of the room. She was so impossibly beautiful and sometimes he wondered how she was even real.
She moved closer to him, looking at her two favorite men with nothing but love pouring from her eyes. He took her left hand into his, pulling her closer to him and wrapped his arm around her waist. She went into him willingly, dropping down until she was seated sideways across his lap, one arm reaching around his shoulder, the other caressing their little baby boy's head, admiring his features and the softness of his skin, still mesmerized by how truly perfect he was.
She felt Castle's arm tightening around her waist, tucking her into him just a little closer, securely enveloping her frame with his arm and couldn't help but snuggling into him a little further. Her head dropped down to his shoulder and she placed the softest of kisses against his neck before leaning against him heavily.
They were both holding their son now, steadying his tiny frame together and he looked as if he were about ready to sleep again, his blue eyes fluttering shut.
"You could go back to bed; I'll stay with him until he is completely asleep." Castle whispered close to her ear, his warm breath skimming over her cheek. She pressed her face into the crook of his neck and softly shook her head before sighing sleepily.
"Too cold"
She could feel his smile as he pressed a light kiss to her cheek, his thumb drawing soothing patterns on her waist and she felt her eyes dropping shut once again.
She sighed softly against his neck, contented by the warmth and love he was providing her with and by the way his arms were holding her close, his familiar scent filling her up, the sweet breathing sounds of their son slowly soothing her into a soft slumber.
She fell asleep in her most cherished way, safe and secure in the circle of her family.
Thank you for reading, I hope you liked it! I am not entirely sure whether I should continue or write an epilogue next, so please let me know what you would like!
