I own nothing.

I own nothing.

Daines POV

That morning everyone rose with the sun. I had no issue if it meant leaving this horrible village sooner.

The previous night Clairanna and her sons had slept with us instead of her cottage. Before we had gone to bed, myself and Numair had helped her pack as many clothes she could carry for herself and the twins as well as other essentials.

Everyone was in a foul mood seeing black clouds coming in threatening rain.

Luckily we all brought spare horses, so I strapped the twins baskets into one of the spares and let Clairanna ride on it. It was hilarious watching her mount in her skirts.

"I've never ridden a horse," she protested.

"And you will never learn if you avoid it. You must ride to travel with us. You would have an easier time if you would dawn breeches but since you refuse you can ride sidesaddle and hope we dont have to take off running at any point."

"What if I fall? If it takes off with me?"

"If you fall you get back up. If it takes off on you, pull the reighns like so." I showed her how to pull the head up to bring the horse to a halt. "If that doesnt work I will call him back. Good enough? We are leaving out soon."

"I suppose." She didnt sound convinced.

"If it helps I will ride next to you?"

"That would be nice, yes."

We looked ahead as the two minute warning was called out. I pulled myself up on Cloud, looking around for Numair. He was no where in sight which had me concerned, so I rode up to the front to see if anyone else knew where he might be.

"Alanna, have you seen Numair? I can't find him."

"Oh who knows with that man. He might have seen something interesting in the trees and wondered off. I'm sure hes fine."

I had a feeling she was hiding something but decided to let it go. If she thought he was fine he probally was. Something kept bothing me in my gut. Something was going on that I didnt know about.

Right when the whistle blew to move out I saw him running up from the village on Spots.

"Where were you?" I demanded.

"Just giving the village my well wishes."

He was in an oddly good mood for this time of the morning.

"What did you do, Numair?"

"Nothing much. Let it go Daine, I didnt hurt anyone."

I dropped it grudgingly.

Numairs pov

Once I was sure that Daine was distracted with the preparations to leave I left the group for the village. I couldnt leave this place in good mind without showing them my "gratitude" for their treatment of my Daine.

My stop was the village center. Jakeel had a suprise coming his way.

I threw open the door not bothering to knock. He looked up suprised. Recognizing me he kept his mouth shut. Probally the smartest thing he could have done.

"Hello Jakeel."

"Shouldnt you be preparing to leave, mage?"

"Oh yes. That I am. I couldnt leave, however, without showing how grateful I am for your treatment of my dearest Daine."

Raising my hand, black magic lifted Jakeel from his seat, into the air. It moved around his throat constricting so he couldnt scream. I shook him around, knocking his head against the wall as an invisible hand threw hits at his gut.

I moved him back into his chair, spelling him so he couldnt rise until the sun rose the next day. I then Laid another spell so he would see hundreds of snakes crawling over and around him and his office. His face went white in fear, mouth opening in an attempt to scream but unable to.

"I hope you enjoy my little gift. Perhaps it will teach you some manners."

With that I left his office, sealing the door behind me so no one could enter until the spells lifted off the man. It was times like this that being a Black Robed Mage made me grin like a fool.

Mounting Spots I rode toward the group, relieved to be heading towards home.

Daines pov

The ride that day was miserable. About an hour after we took out for home the rain decended on us in buckets. Luckily we had no wagons to pull out of the mud but progress was twice as slow as normal. That in itself irritated every member of the riders. The horses and ponies were grumbling at me as if I could do anything except ask everyone to slow down even more.

I was feeling slightly ill to my stomach, but passed it off as stress. I was just relieved to be headed home.

Alanna came up to me after a while, irritation clear as crystal.

"Can you tell that girl to hush her children? Theyve done nothing but squal for the last hour and a half!"

"You should know better than anyone here that children dont like this kind of travel, that besides the rain. It's to be expected."

"But they aren't even crying! Its almost animalistic, its so aggrivating, and not just to me either. The riders are complaining too!"

"They're part animal! their wildmagic is to astronomical levels."

"Thats besides the point, Daine."

I sighed. "Fine. I'll go talk to Numair about placing a silencing spell around them. Thats all I can think to do."

"Thats all I ask. Thank you."

I rode up front where Numair was talking with Onua, heatedly.

"Numair? Can I have a moment?"

"Of course. What is it?"

"Alanna says people are having a problem with Clairanna and the boys. Would you be willing to place a silencing spell around them?"

"Sure. Just a second, Onua. Ill be right back."

He turned spots around and we rode over to Where Clairanna was trying to coax the boys into silence.

"Clairanna," I said.

"Oh, hi Daine, Master Numair. Yes?"

"Some of the riders are complaining about the boys. I understand kids are kids but they dont. Would it be okay if Numair put a silencing spell around you? That way if they want to scream they can without upsettting the riders."

"I suppose as long as it wont hurt them."

"It wont I assure you. They will still be screaming like they are now but only you will be able to hear them," assured Numair.

"Ok then."

With that Numair mumbled a few words and we could no longer hear their squals.

Turning the ponies around Numair and I hung toward the back, alone for a while.

"Dont you have to get back to your conversation with Onua?"

"That can wait. Since we set off I havent gotten to see much of you. How are you feeling now that we are getting out of there?"

"Much better, for sure. I didnt realize just how uptight it had me going in there. I'm sorry if ive been unreasonably snappy with you."

"Its fine Daine. We all understood. It was alot to deal with, what with your history with that place. Atleast we got in and out without much confrontation," he said smirking.

"Numair? Is there something you want to tell me?"

"Nope, not a thing. I love you magelet."

"You too Nummy, you too."
