It's not about the nugget pt. 1
"Why don't you just flip the board? That must count as a strategy!"
"No, that would be rage quitting."
"You sure? If they can't win, it means you can't lose!"
Robin sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose in irritation. It was like explaining things to a child sometimes. He had given up on explaining to Henry the concept of chess, so he opted to telling him stories about chess club. Robin told Henry about the members, how he knew all the rules, about how skilled the others were…
Henry focused his attention on the point where Robin had never won a single match.
But in Henry's defense, he was trying to help Robin come up with a way to win at least one match.
"Just eat the nuggets, twat." Robin sighed in defeat as he took a nugget of his own from the shared basket. The school's cafeteria system was fair in its own way. Whenever it was someone's birthday, they got to pick any one item for lunch. Henry's birthday had already came and went, and Robin- who was drooling at the sight of Henry's hamburger- struck him up a deal that if he shared half of his birthday meal, he'd share his.
So here they were sharing Robin's favorite food on his birthday. There were two left- Robin nibbling at the second last one absentmindedly as he read from a tome.
Feeling a little put off and ignored, Henry took a deep breath as he reached for the last nugget. Sometimes he wished that Robin would take him more seriously. He didn't mind for the most part, but every once in a while he wished…
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Robin shrieked.
"WHAT AM I DOING?!" Henry shrieked back in confusion and reflex. He developed a habit of shouting at whomever was shouting at him.
Robin seethed in silent anger, glare aimed straight at Henry's confused face. Did he seriously just eat his nugget?!
-One week later—
"I said I was sorry a gazillion times! What more do you want?" Henry cried as he pounded on Robin's door. Robin had been doing this for the past week, arrive for class at the absolute last second, avoiding Henry during breaks, then go straight to his room after his clubs were over.
"I want you to stop lying about it!" Robin shouted out the same reply as usual.
"I've told you," he pleaded, "I don't lie! I was raised better than that!" banging on the door again, Henry started a rhythm so he could just do something with his hands.
"No! You ate the last nugget, and it was MY nugget! You think you…you think you're better than me?! You think that you can just take people's nuggets?!" the door thudded, Henry could only imagine that Robin threw a book at the poor door.
Henry's patience was finally beginning to wear thin, "Do you hear yourself?" he strained to keep the jolly tone, "You're mad over a nugget." He stressed the last word. "You're being silly over nothing, nya-ha…"
"George," Robin addressed his roommate, who had to suffer through Robin and Henry's bickering, "What do you think of this?"
George took a long, tired, groan. "I think," he started slowly, annoyance clear in his voice, "That you should put it all behind you. Forgive and forget."
Henry jumped happily, though the other two couldn't see it, "I forgive you, Robin!"
Robin shouted curses, and not the magical kind, "NO! We agreed to share it equally, then you go behind my back and take one of mine!"
"I didn't!" he argued for the thousandth time, "you were distracted from eating, and you didn't even realize that you were eating your last one!"
Robin refused to see the truth. "I'm starting to think of adding compulsive liar to your list of mental disabilities!"
"No fair," It's not like Henry chose to be the way he was, he was simply born that way. "…my mother had me tested. I'm the most honest kid you'll find. C'mon, I'll order nuggets on my next birthday. You can have all of them." Henry was starting to feel drained, so he was offering anything he had. He slumped to the floor, back leaning against the door.
Robin chose that moment to fling the door open, causing Henry to fall backwards and rearrange the way he thought for a moment.
"You know, Henry," Robin seethed, "It's not about the nuggets." He paused, everything feeling incredibly intense during the dramatic pause, "It's about the lies."
George sarcastically went 'oooo~' in the background.
