"Oh my God! What happened?!" Emma and Daniel rushed to their daughter who laid sound asleep in Rhydian's arms.
"It was my fault." Jana whispered. "My father confronted them. I tried to stop it but she got seriously hurt. I'm sorry." Tears started to leak out her eyes as Maddy's father took her out of Rhydian's arms.
"My baby cub..." Emma whispered, stroking her hair.
"I'm sorry too. We didn't mean to stay out late like that. We were just seeing Tom and Shannon off. And the movie overran a little bit." Rhydian said sheepishly.
"It's ok. But I will kill Alric if I ever set eyes on him." Daniel said, going upstairs.
"I'll join you." Jana mumbled, heading for the door. "Well... I'll see you sometime. Hopefully, when Maddy's better." And with that her and Rhydian shared a little smile and she left, howling into the midnight.
"Bedtime, Rhydian." Emma said, gesturing upstairs. "School for you tomorrow." She smiled.
"Yeah... Night." He hesitantly kissed her cheek and ran up the stairs before he could see her stunned reaction.
...
"Hey, I'm back from school. You alright?" Rhydian set his bag down by Maddy's bed and sat on it. Maddy smiled and gestured to her arm in bandages and her waist.
"Do I look like I am?" She joked. He laughed and brought out chocolates from his bag. "My favourites! Dude!" She grinned.
"Yup and I brought two annoying idiots with me." Tom and Shannon came in, immediately bombarding Maddy with a million questions.
"I'm ok, guys! I am. Seriously!" She hugged them all. "Thanks guys." She smiled as Shannon gave her flowers and Tom gave her her favourite milkshake.
"Oh, I gotta go but I'll see you tomorrow! Mum's out of work early." Tom said, getting up. He gave one last hug to Maddy and waved at the remaining three as he left. He never had time with his mother lately. She always worked long hours.
"Oh... I forgot. My dad's brother and his wife are visiting with their annoying son and I have to help mum make dinner. So, I'll see you guys tomorrow. Bye." Shannon said, hugging Maddy then Rhydian. They both guessed that their friends made excuses to leave them alone.
"So... What do you want to do?" Maddy asked. Rhydian shrugged.
"PSP?" He offered. Maddy shook her head. "Just chat then?" He offered again.
"Sure." Maddy smiled, resting her bad arm. She winced a little and itched it. "I just hate this darn cast. It itches like fleas!" She commented. Rhydian laughed and rubbed it for her.
"I am sorry I didn't help you sooner. I could have prevented you getting hurt, Mads." He looked down. Maddy raised her hand to rest on his cheek.
"It wasn't your fault. My wolf kicked in and I just didn't think. I certainly didn't think I would get harmed in the process." She laughed a little and he joined in. "Don't beat yourself up about it. I'm ok. Or I will be." She shrugged. Rhydian looked at her and she stared back, smiling softly. They started to lean in and their lips met in a long sweet kiss.
When they pulled back, they both blushed and Rhydian scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Wow." He breathed out.
"Wow, indeed." Maddy replied, her hair covering her blushing features.
"Maddy, will you be my girlfriend? I mean, you don't have to. But-" He was cut off by another kiss.
"Yes, I'll be your girlfriend! Just stop getting all mushy about it, dude." Maddy laughed. Rhydian laughed with her and kissed her again. "Three first kisses in the space of five minutes. You are on a roll!" Maddy joked.
"Yeah, yeah." Rhydian smiled, blushing. He got up and stretched. "Well, I'm going to see what's for dinner. Maybe your parents will let us eat upstairs for once." He winked. She hit him on his arm with her good arm as he went out, grinning like a Cheshire Cat.
