Chapter 10: Moments
A/N: Important message at the end of the chapter, so please read it! Thank you!
Cornelia and Elyon sat on the couch, talking and catching up with each other, after they had returned from the airport.
"What's Alex doing, anyway?"
Elyon giggled as she replied, "He's too busy sleeping in the guest room."
Cornelia rolled her eyes, "Yep, he's a keeper."
Just then, they were interrupted by the door ringing. Cornelia hopped over to open it, and Caleb stood there with a pizza box. He smirked, as Cornelia rolled her eyes at him.
"Who is it?" Elyon yelled from the couch. Caleb walked inside and once Elyon saw him, she didn't exactly recognise him at first.
"Oh my gosh, Caleb!"
Caleb grinned, "The one and only."
Cornelia scoffed as she snatched the pizza away from him and crashed down next to Elyon.
"Wait, are you guys together?" Elyon whispered to Cornelia whose eyes widened, as she shook her head furiously. "N-No, what gave you that idea?"
Caleb hadn't heard them, and before Elyon could reply, he spoke up, "Where is Alex, anyway?"
"Asleep."
Caleb moaned, "Great. That means I'm stuck here."
"Hey!" Cornelia slapped his arm, trying hard not to smile. "And what is that supposed to mean?"
He grinned at her mockingly, "Well, as much as I would love to stay and watch you two girls gossip, talk about...girly stuff or whatever, I'd rather pull out my eyelashes."
"That is it!" she laughed while tackling him on the couch, as Elyon exploded into laughter.
"Oh, is that the best you got, CORNY?" he stood up as she chased him around the room.
She frowned playfully as she pushed him against the wall, "No, I'm just getting started. And don't call me Corny!"
She had his shirt scrunched in her hand, and he pouted. "Hey! This is my new shirt!"
She rolled her eyes before releasing him as they both sat back down again.
"So, how is Zach?" Elyon smiled.
Cornelia's face turned serious at the mention of her boyfriend. They hadn't exactly had any time together in a while, and she felt extremely lonely. The only time she didn't feel so alone, was when she was with Caleb. He would make her forget about her boyfriend not spending enough time with her.
"He's fine!" she began, "...Just busy as usual."
Caleb felt his fists clenching unknowingly. His feelings for Cornelia were growing, but also his anger towards Zach. It wasn't because Zach was her boyfriend, but also because she deserved better. Much better. She deserved someone who understands her and knows when she feels lonely or upset.
He calmed down before pouring himself something to drink, as he glanced at the blondes who were talking and laughing together. Caleb sighed as he turned his head the other way, trying to keep Cornelia away from his mind.
...
"Cornelia, we've been over this!" Zach yelled at her from across the room. He shook his head, pacing around. Cornelia was shocked by his outburst, and felt anger rising inside of her.
"You know that I'm right though!" She cried out in reply.
Zach turned to her, his expression softening slightly once he saw her face. He sighed loudly, before shaking his head. "I'm sorry, alright? There, is that what you wanted to hear?" Instead of a sincere and heartfelt apology, Cornelia felt as if he were mocking her.
She closed her eyes, trying to calm herself. She then changed her voice to a much calmer tone, "All I'm saying is that I just want to spend some time with you, that's all."
"And you don't think I know that?" he paused, as he made his way over to her. "That vacation we're going on will sort out everything. We'll have plenty of time to spend together in a few weeks."
He cupped her face in his hands and slowly kissed her on her forehead. Cornelia closed her eyes and moved back slightly, which surprised him. He gave her a patronising look as she removed his hands away from her.
She forced a smile at him as she walked towards the door, but turned back after he called her name.
"You know that I love you, right?"
She froze on the spot, trying to get the words out of her mouth. She finally blurted out her reply, while stuttering on her words, "I have to go."
Zach watched in astonishment as the blonde hurried out of the apartment, without a proper reply.
...
Cornelia sat on the park bench, gazing at the people around her. It was a sunny day, as well as her day off work, and she felt like being on her own for a while.
"There you are."
She recognised Caleb's voice and half turned to see him walking towards her, with a smile on his face.
"You're not a very good stalker..." she joked, trying to hide how happy she was that he had found her.
Caleb scoffed and leaned back on the bench, "Who says I was trying to stalk you?"
"What are you doing here, anyway?"
He shrugged, "Just needed some fresh air." He paused, before turning to face her. "Are you alright?"
His question caught her off guard and she nodded her head almost too quickly and unconvincingly, "Just thinking."
"About?" he inquired.
She hesitantly opened her mouth to say something, and then sighed as she confided in him, "Why Zach stood me up."
"Well, that was his mistake." He replied to her in a sincere voice, as their eyes locked. This time, Cornelia didn't have to force a smile onto her face as they looked at each other. After a long time, they realised they were gawking at one another and looked away in embarrassment. Cornelia could feel her heart beating faster as she felt his gaze on her, but she shook away her thoughts as they sat together.
A/N: My apologies for not sticking to my updating schedule! I've just been very busy these last couple of days, with some crazy things going on!
*Important note: I am sorry to say that, from now on, I will only update once every month, or maybe twice. I'm really sorry about that, but I have to focus more on starting my new college and working! I have picked some very tricky subjects and so need most of my attention on that. I hope you guys understand and still follow my stories, it means a lot! Don't worry; I'll never abandon fanfiction (I'll probably continue until I'm like 100, LOL).
Thanks for reading, reviewing, adding to favourites and following my story! It means so much to me.
