Chapter Ten:

With Tori in her arms that night, Jade had the best sleeps she's had in a while. The next morning she woke up and blinked a few times, letting her brain figure out where she was. Her eyes adjusted to sunshine pouring in from the light purple clad curtains on the window. Jade's eyes then moved to the sleeping form nestled up against her.

Tori slept soundly on her warm companion, her sobs dwindling around 5 am. A soft sigh left the tan girl, causing Jade to look at her and make she was alright. Jade watched as Tori's chest rose and fell, and how truly innocent she appeared. Yawning, Jade waited for Tori to wake up, and entertained herself with looking around Tori's room.

After a good twenty minutes of taking in several purple themed things, small trinkets, pop music posters, books, and guitars, Jade felt Tori stir next to her.

"Jade? You're still here?"

Jade gave Tori a sympathetic smile, or as sympathetic as she could get. "Yeah, I wanted to make sure you were okay."

"I've been better. I guess we should get to school. I can't afford to miss anymore school." Tori let go of Jade and pulled of the covers. "Sorry you had to see that yesterday."

"Don't be, I'm glad I found you."

Tori nodded, getting up from her bed and stretching. "I'll see you at school."

"Want me to pick you up after I get ready?" Jade asked, getting up herself and grabbing her purse and shoes.

"Yeah, that would be great, as long as you take me to school and not to the middle of nowhere like last time."

Jade chuckled darkly. "I won't, I promise. That was pretty great though."

"No it wasn't! Get outta here West and go get ready." Tori waved off Jade.

"Hey, only I can call you by your last name, Vega. Don't forget it." Jade said, smirking when Tori grumbled something as she disappeared into the bathroom.

Jade went out to her car, getting in and heading home.

Her father greeted her when she arrived.

"Jade, where were you? Are you okay?" James West asked, a look of worry apparent on his normally expressionless face.

"I'm sorry, my friend Tori was having a rough time last night. I spent the night with her. She needed someone." Jade explained.

"Well, that was very kind of you to help her, but next time let me know where you are before you don't come home after school. Speaking of school, you should be getting ready. We'll talk later, okay?"

Jade nodded, "Sorry, I will next time. Have a good day at work." She sprinted up the stairs and got cleaned up and dressed, made herself some coffee, and grabbed her bag before leaving to go pick up Tori.

Tori had washed up, clearing away her tear stained face and runny mascara. She put new bandages on her cuts, shuddering as the memories flooded back to her from the previous day. Pushing the thoughts away, she threw on some clothes and met Jade on the driveway when she pulled up.

The two sat in silence, until Jade broke it. "I made you some coffee. I figured you might need it."

Tori took the cup and sipped gratefully, "Thanks."

Arriving just in time, the unlikely companions parted even had a few minutes to go to their lockers. People were getting used to the fact that Jade was back, and stayed as far away as possible from her.

Tori on the other hand, was far from invisible.

While at her locker, her hands shook with anxiety as she felt people were staring at her. She quickly took out her books and closed her locker, turning to walk away until a girl came up behind her and tripped Tori. Tori and her books went falling to the floor with a loud thud, causing Jade to glance at the scene.

Students pointed and laughed, calling Tori several names. "Watch where you're going, dyke." The girl who tripped Tori spat.

Jade's knuckles turned white as she clenched her locker door. She slammed it shut, rushing over to Tori and helping her up.

"Hey, bottle blonde!" Jade called after the girl, who spun around to see who dared to call her that. "Quit messing with Tori, she hasn't done shit to you."

The girl raised a perfectly plucked eyebrow. "Isn't this cute, the psycho goth defending the hopeless dyke."

"Excuse me?! Who the hell do you think you are? I'm sure not a thing on you is real. And besides, Tori hasn't done anything to you, so lay the fuck off. All of you making fun of Tori because she happens to like women are just stupid. She can get more pussy than all of you little dick douches." Jade said, picking up Tori's books and taking her arm as she escorted her to class.

"You okay Vega?" Jade asked as they approached the classroom.

"Yeah, you didn't have to do that." Tori replied, brushing off her pants.

"That's what friends do, right? Help each other when bitches like her hurt you."

Tori nodded, smiling when Jade said they were friends. "Why are you being so nice to me Jade?"

"Because, you were nice to me when I was in the hospital. If it wasn't for you I'd probably still be in there. You gave me my life back, and I can never thank you enough for that. I'm gonna be here for you. It's the least I can do after all you've done for me when I hit rock bottom."

Tori pulled Jade into a hug, and Jade didn't pull away right away.

"Don't get mushy on me Vega, let's get to class before Sikowitz throws a fit that we're late."

The two went into the classroom, arms linked together.
