Chapter Ten: Ill

Drakes POV

'So have you figured out what your power is yet?' Drake asked.

It had been two weeks since Diana had realised she could read power levels and three weeks since Caine had shown them he could move things with his mind. Diana had read Caine as a four bar and Jenny as a two bar.

'For the hundredth time, no.' Jenny snapped, then she relented. 'Sorry sweety, I've just got other things on my mind.'

'Other things,' Drake echoed 'You're developing mutant powers and you have other things on your mind.'

'Yep,' Jenny said 'I guess that's why they call me crazy.'

'Crazy?' Drake said, 'Is actually not the correct word. Or so my psychologist keeps telling me.'

Jenny bit her lip, 'How about mentally unstable then?'

'Better.' Drake grinned.

He looked at her. She was paler than usual and had dark circles under her eyes. She was still hot in his eyes but she had changed a bit. She was eating a lot more and he suspected that the fresh cuts on her wrists hadn't been just for the blood. She hadn't let him touch her the way he wanted to touch her in a while even when he had threatened her. She wasn't her usual witty self. She was more reserved, like she had her guard up. He had no idea what was wrong. Maybe it just came with the stomach bug she had. It would pass he hoped and the sooner the better. He wanted the old Jenny back.

Not that he would admit it to anyone. Even himself.

Before he could say anything Caine interrupted 'I think I'm ready to lift people.' He said

They were in Jenny and Diana's room watching Caine practice his powers. He insisted they watched. Drake thought he was showing of, but he didn't care. Or so he kept on telling himself.

'You've already lifted people,' Diana said looking up from her magazine. 'You lifted your dad and chucked him down the stairs and you sure as hell lifted me.'

'Yes but I'd like to try with a bit more control.' Caine shrugged.

'Well not me.' Diana said.

'Or me.' Drake added.

Jenny had been staring into space and hadn't heard what they had said. She jumped slightly as she rose of the bed.

'Put me down Caine.' Jenny snapped.

'In a minute.' Caine said.

'Put her down Caine, can't you see she's ill.' Diana snapped.

'I said in a minute.'

Diana slapped him. 'Now Caine.'

Jenny dropped back on the bed.

'You ok?' Drake asked.

'Think I'm going to hurl.' Jenny ran into the bathroom and locked the door. They all heard the sounds of her throwing up. Drake was surprised at the way Jenny had been so wimpy about Caine picking her up. She had changed more than he thought.

They sat in silence and watched Caine pick up books with his power. Twenty minutes later Jenny still hadn't come out the bathroom.

Diana got up and knocked on the door. 'Jenny.' She said 'Jenny are you ok?'

'Yeah,' said a small voice 'I'm ok.'

'Come out,' Said Diana softly 'Please.'

'One minute.' Jenny insisted rather shrilly.

'Ok.'

About five minutes later Jenny stepped out looking at her feet.

'Jenny, are you ok.' Diana asked.

'I'm,' her voice quavered 'I'm fine.'

'Jenny look at me.' Diana said. 'Look at me.'

Jenny hesitantly lifted her head.

Her eyes were red. She had been crying.

Diana's POV

'Get out you two,' Diana said.

They didn't need telling twice. Diana didn't however, fail to miss Drakes disgusted look.

'Honey what is it?' Diana was genuinely concerned. She liked Jenny.

Jenny let out a sob.

'Jenny you can tell me,' Diana hugged her 'You're my best, maybe only friend, you can tell me.'

'You...' Jenny tried to steady her voice. 'You can sense a zero power level right?' She said.

'Of course.' she said slightly confused.

'You can feel my power level now, and yours.'

Diana nodded.

'Can you feel another one?' Jenny asked.

Then Diana felt it. A zero power level. It was very faint, but it was there. It would have been easy to miss. It was coming from Jenny.

Diana's eyes widened. 'Jenny...' she gasped 'Jenny, are you pregnant?'
